Vacation Rental San Felice 2 - Venice

We stayerd in San Felice 1 three years ago & my wife was disappointed with the darkness of the apartment and the low beamed ceilings. Apart from that everything was very good. So when we decided to visit Venice again we thought we'd try San Felice 2. This is an extra building built in the courtyard of the buildings around. As soon as we entered the apartment my wife was delighted. The ceilings were much higher and the rooms had a lot more light. The appartment had a double bedroom, next to that a lounge onto which the front door opened then a bathroom and a longish kitchen. There was something of a musty smell so at one end the bedroom windows were opened and at the other end the kitchen window was opened onto a canal. This was probably an auxilliary canal down which all sorts of weird and wonderful craft travelled hauling goods or cranes. Hence the slight noisiness. When windows were open. We were there in mid September and most days were hot so we had to open the bedroom windows. Unfortunately the air con was rather weak stopping when the temperature dropped to 18C. This had the unfortunate effect of letting in a few mosquitos. My wife is very susceptible to mosquito bites so this spoilt our stay somewhat and in the end we didn't open the windows at all which was a shame. Other minor problems to be aware off concerned the hot water, shower and gas cooker. Hot water was electrically heated in a container so when taking a shower in the morning you had to be careful to leave some hot water for the other person. An involuntary water saving measure I guess. Also the shower had no handles or anything to hold onto so if you are getting on and your balance is not all it could be you might have a problem. Finally the gas cooker had a particular feature where if you lit the gas hob you had to keep the knob pressed in for 30 seconds otherwise it would go out. An Italian health & safety feature on gas cookers I guess. Apart from those minor points everything else

We enjoyed staying in the property which was very conveniently situated. It was rather dark in the daytime and slightly damp being on the ground floor, but that's Venice, particularly when it is wet. We had to wait 20 minutes to be met in a downpour. A non-functioning fridge was quickly replaced, but a promised clean and change of linen did not materialise. The property was large enough to invite friends for dinner - there were six chairs but barely adequate tableware. Altogether we had a very successful visit

The apartment had 3 rooms and all the falicities we needed. Rooms were clean and there was pleanty of space. Location was good being within walking distance to Rialto and Main square and close to local Ferry stop. There was a good supermarket nearby for provisions.

I'll make a note at the start- actually stayed in Furlani 1 NOT san felice 2 as they own a couple of apartments and you can swap between them with no difference in price. I only realised this after getting some confusing e-mails in Italian and English which made me have to actually phone them. After several confusing e-mails we arrived at the water taxi stop indicated. Called them and they came to meet us. The lady who met us spoke very little english. At the bottom of the e-mail it says payment must be in cash and having missed this I then had to wander round to find a cash machine. My cards didnt work in the two I tried so in the end went to their hotel and used their card machine. Why I couldn't use this in the first place and why they don't just take card I have no idea. Once that stress was sorted out I returned to the apartment but had lost a good 2 hours messing around. If you book here ENSURE you have the payment in cash no matter which apartment you book. Nice apartment in a very good location. Under 5 minutes from the water taxi, 5-10 mins walk from saint marcs square. Lots of places to eat around there and there is a supermarket within under a minutes walk with supplies. The apartment itself is ok. It's quite small and also has no kettle or microwave which frankly amazed me. There is a double bedroom, fans, air conditioning. TV is Italian and has about 20 channels so if you're looking for something to entertain kids you will be disappointed. The bathroom is clean however the shower tends to alternate between warm and hot with no notice. On arrival there are some maps of the area in the flat along with water bus routes and times. This is really handy. Would I stay there again? Location was fantastic and the price was pretty cheap however, I'd imagine there are other self catered apartments which have a microwave and kettle etc for a similar price. Oh, one more little gripe. Didn't have an address for either apartment and the map on the websi

Spacious accommodation,well furnished and equipped, centrally located, nice welcome. Excellent value for money.

The apartment itself was very nice. The equipped kitchen and porch were big plusses. However, the apartment was in a different area entirely from the location stated on the web site--it is in Castello, near San Marco, not in Cannaregio. We specifically wanted to be in Cannaregio, to be close to the train station and Jewish ghetto. In addition, they required us to pay in cash, and apparently expected us to pay when we arrived. Neither of these expectations was indicated on the website or the booking form. They made us go find the company headquarters--which in Venice, is not easy--to pay on Saturday night. The woman who met us and brought us to the apartment spoke very little English, so we could not ask her any questions about the area or about Venice. Overall, the apartment was nice and the location was pretty good, even though it was not where we expected. If you want a nice place near San Marco and don't need any guidance or service, then this place is for you. Expect to have to pay cash.

The rooms were good, in a good location, but the bathrooms were not so good, and the kitchen was a lot less nice than the rest of the place. But the owner met us, even late at night, and was very welcoming.

This was my second stay in this appartment so I was expecting there to have been a washing machine as in earlier stay. Because of this there was some inconvenience with having to handwash clothes where there were no facilities to do so. Other than this, the appartment was as I had expected and good value for it's location etc. Apart from a new washing machine all it needs is a nice bath tub to soak in at the end of a day's walking or to warm up after a couple of hours on the vaporettos. The heating in the appartment was very efficient. Perhaps a few more cooking utensils and pans for those of us who want to cook more at home too.

We found this accommodation excellent value for money. The property is situated in a private courtyard on a quiet canal, just metres from the Strada Nova shopping street. The furnishings were of high quality, and a combination of new and antique. The bathroom looked brand new. The courtyard was excellent for having breakfast outdoors, and we thought the apartment had real charm. Piergiorgio, who met us at the vaporetto stop, was very helpful and recommended an excellent local restaurant. We will definitely be returning to San Felice 2.

A great place to stay. The welcome was not the warmest, but that probably had something to do with arriving after midnight. Still he charged an extra 30 euros and we were delayed to a strike. The place was roomy and quiet, but still only a short walk to a main shopping street or the ferry.
