Vacation Rental Fonti d'Ovile - Siena

We stayed only two nights in Siena, passing through as part of a longer tour of Italy. The apartment is a wonderful find - the description and photos really don't do it justice. The apartment is just outside the old city wall, so has excellent walking access to the very traditional old town and the sights there. The apartment itself is incredibly spacious - the bedroom is a spacious double or twin depending on how you arrange the beds, and the living room can be closed off with a sliding door to form another spacious bedroom with a double sofa bed. Could easily and comfortably sleep four people, for two - a luxury! As other reviewers noted, during the day there is noise from the gym above, but this never disturbed us since we were out most of the day.

Very clean and spacious apartment just steps away from the escalator into Siena. This place is fantastic value. The apartment looks better than the photos. The living room has a door that can be closed so the apartment can have two private bedrooms. The only drawback is that the living room sofa bed is not as comfortable as the real bed in the other room.

+ spacious appartment with good, although a bit used equipment; position nearby the city centre and all interesting sites. - humidity in the appartment due to the position (souterrain, directing north with no sun coming in), dehumidifier had to be running all the time

Excellent value for the money, the apartment was spacious and very cheap. The location was very good, just a short walk from Piazza del Campo and there where escalators leading up to the city even if we hardly used them.

Without a doubt, we would stay at Font d'Ovile again. the apartment was spacious and clean, convenient to the city center but ,above all, a great value. We have rented apartments in Italy for ten years and have never found a space as affordable and nice.The location beneath a fitness center was not a problem; it closes at areasonable hour.

The apartment was spacious and clean. The noise from the gym above was no worse than street noise you might have in other places. And the apartment's location at the bottom of the escalator into the old town was very convenient, especially because we could park the car for free just outside our apartment! The staff spoke excellent English and was extra helpful--even those of them that only spoke Italian were good natured and very helpful. Wifi costs extra but is available in the hotel lobby. Being affiliated with the hotel made many things convenient. . . and there was a grocery store just around the corner.

This was our third stay at Fonti d'Ovile and it won't be our last. Unlike other apartments where you have to wait for the owners/managers to check in or check out, this is made so easy by its affiliation with the Hotel Moderno. There is always someone at the front desk who is willing and able to help correct any problem that may arise. Between 10pm and 7am, and on weekends, it is absolutely the quietest place in Siena...the rest of the time...if the noise from the gym bothers you (it did not bother us)...Go explore Siena!!!

NEED CURTAIN FOR SLEEPING TOO MUCH LIGHT AT THE MORNING TIME AND THE HALL OUTSIDE THE ROOM IS NOT SO CLEAN AND A HUMIDE SMELL IS EXISTING AT THE ENTRANCE .THEY TRY TO PUT TWO VENTILATIONS BUT IS NOT ENOUGH ???THEY NEED TO SEE THE INCONVENIANT . EXCEPT SOME THE CURTAIN AND THE SMELL IS A GOOD APPT AND LOT OF SPACE .

Very spacious flat, wellfurbished and clean. excellent welcoming. Perfect location : only 5 minutes walk from San francesco escalator and city center ! only one drawback : flat just below a fitness center : big noise between 18h00 and 22h00.

You can smell a slight odour as in the basement flats is sometimes usual. Sofa-bed is not very comfortable. Besides that excellent!

The apartment was under a health club which produced some noise from early in the morning to about 10pm at night. Also the electrical supply would not support more that a couple of elements being on at the same time on the cooking stove. Having said that the apartment was spacious and convenient for the centre of Siena and good value for the money.

We enjoy the days that we live in the city. The apartment was very comfortable, the heater (we had very cool weather) works very well. It was a nice surprise when we arrive because in the fist moment the apartment was a bit hide and far from the centre. But, all this first views were false. We find a big and cute decoration apartment and very near to the centre of the city.

It was the first time we have been in siena and we had chosen Apartament Fonti d'Ovile because of we thought it was more confortable and intimate.It would be also a good solution for a family with small children because the flat is very spacious!very good value for money!

Our second stay in this apartment and won't be the last. Love the location-easy parking. Great value for the money. Would recommend updating the living room furniture and carpet.

The apartment is very big and very clean. It's close to old town via the escalator. The stuff at the hotel (Moderna) was very friendly and helpful. The apartment is well equipped with big kitchen and bathroom. There is heat and A.C. in all rooms. Just outside the place there is a big parking. The only drawback is the gym located above the apartment. But it's closed on Sunday and gets closed at 22:00 during day weeks. And overall it's not too noise and we could sleep at noon… To sum it up- I surly would come back again and recommended for others!

Apartment very good price/quality ratio, only problem is that they only give you one set of keys and the interphone doesn't seem to work! My mother arrived several hours after me, and they wouldn't let her in but she didn't have a key to get in (nor a phone to call me on)! She finally go them to lend her their second set of keys, but she had to argue for 15 mins first. Note also that you can only use around electric burners on the stove at any time without the circuit breaker tripping. However the apartment was really big and clean and we had a good time there.

Excellence

The ideal apartment for a City break. First time to the apartment. The Spaciousness, cleanliness and the position enabled us to have the perfect Holiday; to spend time in Siena and then to visit Tuscany due to the brilliant public transport of trains and buses. An experienced traveller to Italy I consider this apartment was an all round success.

We had a nice 2-week stay at 'Font d'Ovile'. I myself enjoyed walking around, shopping daily foods at supermarket nereby, cooking, sightseeing...etc., while my daughter joined a language school in Siena. The place is easy to come up to town center with the escalator. The atomosphere, space and the honor(Hotel Moderno)'s service was almost perfect. The only bad thing was the wettness!!! It was musty when checked in although airconditioner was on. We had to wipe all cabinets and closets on the first night. I turned all mattreses, and hung out bed covers, pillows...etc. with window opened in almost every mornings. Anyway we enjoyed!!!

This place is very big and clean (we stayed in the biggest apartment; I cannot speak for the others). I can't believe it was cheaper than most of the hotels in Siena. I guess it is because you have to walk into the city, which takes 10-15 minutes if your destination is Il Campo, but any visit to Siena involves walking up a lot of hills, so I don't know that this is really a problem. It gave me an excuse to get a gelato every day, since the last open store you walk by at night on the way home is a gelateria on Via del Rossi. Also, the large bed in the bedroom is composed of two twin-size beds placed together, so it was easy for my friend and I to stay there together and sleep on comfortable beds; we simply moved one of the twin beds out to the family room and put the sofa-bed sheets on it. However, these are things to keep in mind:

- There is a gym upstairs. It is open during hours that we normally weren't there, and it was not too busy even when we were there, but maybe we got lucky. If it opens earlier than you want to be up, you might get woken up.

- The apartment is air-conditioned, which is nice. However, for some reason, running the air-conditioner all day with the windows closed causes the apartment to get very humid (this is the opposite effect my air-conditioner at home has). So sheets and towels started getting mysteriously wet before we realized to keep the windows open for at least some of the day and night.

- You can only pay cash or traveller's check, contrary to the entry on Venere.com (probably because it is run by Hotel Moderno, which only lets you pay with a credit card if you are staying in Hotel Moderno). But you don't have to pay until the end, so we had time to hit an ATM to get the money, and Siena seems to be a safe place to walk around with a big wad of cash.

Other than that, it was very pleasant and the staff at Hotel Moderno was very polite and helpful in getting us checked in and checked out.

Fonti d'Ovile was fantastic value for money. We stayed for 12 nights. Staff at the Hotel Moderno were most helpful - with a special mention for Pierluigi and Francesca. The noise from the gym was not a problem. However, if you decide, as we did, to cook your evening meal, and if you have 2 hot plates and a kettle on at the same time, the lights will go out. This was the only drawback. Apart from that, it would be impossible to find better value for money in Siena. The location was ideal, with easy access to the old city via the escalators, and a fabulous green grocer and a supermarket just around the corner. I recommend this apartment highly and would happily stay there again.

The apartment was spacious with a easy to use kitchen and air conditioning. It was private and quite. Close to the heart of Siena without being overwhelmed with tourists. Its a bit of a hike from the train station, so its better to get the bus if possible.

Outstanding apartment - quiet, spacious, pleasantly furnished, amazing value. Very good aircon, 2 tv's, video player. The photos don't really do it justice. The only thing it could definitely do with is a washing machine and possibly a microwave. There's a bakery and a supermarket literally round the corner, free car parking available. Avis car hire office also 5 mins walk. The apartment's a bit hard to find - my advice is to head for the Hotel Moderno which is 50 metres away & they will give you the keys & take you there. The apartment is 2 mins walk from a system of escalators which deposit you in piazza St Francesca, from there it's no more than 10 mins to the Campo. The apartment is beneath a fitness club so there's a certain amount of bumping & banging overhead until about 9pm Mon-Fri but I can't say that this was a problem. The hotel's garden restaurant is surprisingly good too. The nearby bakery does takeaway pizza in the evenings (closed Sun). This apartment really made our holiday!

Really enjoyed the spaciousness of fonti, as it was an apartment we self supplied,handy to the escalator to get us to town,massive unit, enjoyed our stay. one fault was trying to find the place so here goes. taxi from station 6.50euro or walk 15 mins. to unit. on arrival at station turn left and go straight along bottom road to a next intersection vear right for 30 metres then turn right follow around to hotel moderno then go into reception and book in. the theory is that hotel moderno has the keys for the apartment, so go there, i stii havent seen a sign saying port o:ville apartments.

Excellent location in relation to town and shopping. Good possibility for preparing meals. Independent of other people. We had some problems with humidity and ants, but were able to manage them. Noise from the fitness center is absolutely acceptable.

Will definitely stay here again! The noise from the gym is only an issue in the early evening.

This is an ideal place to stay for seeing Siena and the surrounding area. Hiring a car made it possible to visit the more out of the way places but if I went back I'd probably use the trains & buses to keep the stress levels down. Finding the accommodation was a bit tricky but worth it when we got there. The staff at the Moderna Hotel were very helpful. Fonti d'Ovile apartments are comfortable, clean, well equipped and situated right next to the heart of Siena, which is a beautiful city. I'd definitely use them again.

There is a gym above the apartments and it can get quite noisy at night, it closes about 10pm. otherwise, the partments are very comnfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful, very good value.

This was a very comfortable apartment close to the escalator to get up to the old town and close to a small supermarket. It was quite spacious.

It's just perfect; you won't find anything better according price and quality. The Gym realy may create some noise from falling dumbbell but you must test it!

The apartment was huge, with a large kitchen and dining area, big lounge, large double bedroom and well appointed bathroom. Excellent airconditioning. The only difficulty we had was finding it. The map was accurate but we were looking for the Fonti d'Ovile,and this apartment was actually located underneath the Moderna Hotel. The Moderna Hotel acts as a sort of agent for the owner of the apartment. The first person we spoke to at the hotel did not know of the Fonti d'Ovile and we spent another 45 minutes trying to find it, only to come back to the Moderna Hotel where a different receptionist knew of the arrangements for the leasing of the apartments. Early evening in the apartment (Mon-Fri) could be a bit noisy as the apartment is located underneath a fitness centre. The sound of barbells and dumbells crashing onto the floor was a bit distracting, but the gym closes at 9.00pm weekdays and at 6.00pm weekends, so no real problem. Excellent access to the town of Sienna, free escalator right up to the top of the town. Handy for supermarket too. Car parking was a little tricky, very popular area and so it was not possible to always park outside the apartment, but the hotel staff were very helpful in making sure there was always a space somewhere.

Beautiful apartment quite near to the elevator that takes you directly to the city center. large and clean bathroom, well equipped kitchen and a lrge number of facilities. Definitely a good deal!

The apartments (not the rooms in the hotel!) at Fonti d' Ovile have a very good price/quality rate. The apartments are big (till 80 square metres) and are quiet. Only the sportcentre on top of the apartments can be a little noisy in the evening. The personnel speaks english and is friendly. Only thing we didn't like was a dirty fridge in the apartment.

The flat is large, clean, luminous and well located. It would be even great with a washing machine. Two little troubles : first, in spite of the air con, it is very difficult to dry something in the bathroom as it has no window, second, the fitness center at the first floor is sometimes a little noisy in the morning and could prevent some people, kids for instance, to sleep late.

This is a really lovely apartment, it's cool and a bit dark, but nice when you come in from the sun outside!

The Apartment is situated only 2 minutes from the Porta d'Ovile escalator that deposits you in town. There is really no reason to stay in a hotel in Siena when you can get such a spacious apartment for Eur 70 per night. On arrival we thought there must have been some mistake, the apartment was that good. Dropped points for surroundings as the entrance is in an unfinished car park (didn't bother us) and the foyer to apartments is unfinished. If you just need somewhere to sleep on a short stay this is perfect.

A great choice! However, there is a gym located directly above the apartment ... the noise begins early and ends late - this would definitely bother some people a great deal. However, the apartment is very spacious! I was really happy with it (minus the noise factor). If you're hoping to stay in the heart of Siena, this may not be the place for you, though ... it's a bit away from the main area (such as the Campo). If I return to Siena, I'll stay here again. :)

Your not going to beat the value of this apartment it really is very tastefully kitted out and is huge you could easily sleep 4 in it. its right next to the san fransesco escalators which take you straight in to where you want to be, the view out of the window is green and typical sienna with an old tuscan baths just below.its air conditioned to.has a full kitchen and fridge freezer and all the pots pans utensils you need and a huge dining table. its only set back is it has a gym above it which in the day can be noisy ,but lets face it your in sienna for being out not in the noise doent start till 10 in the morning and ends at 8ish at night, its no problem if you dont want to sleep in the day.for the cost i assure you ,it cant be beaten
