Overall, this was a very nice experience. The kitchen is nicely equipped. The bathroom is large. The bed was comfortable. The bedroom opened onto a small patio that was for our exclusive use. The only 'facility' issue is that there is no place comfortable to sit. There is a dining room, but there is no place for a sofa or comfortable chairs. The location is excellent. The view in one direction is vineyards and olive groves. The other direction is San Gimignano silohetted on the hill. It seems like it would be a longer walk to town, but it really isn't. It's about 10 minutes to the town gate. I rated "welcome" fairly low. We had to ask a neighbor to use her phone so we could call to let them know we had arrived. We had to wait a very short time, but it was confusing and awkward. When the two men arrived to let us in and show us the place, they seemed to be a bit taken aback by the fact that we were a male couple. While polite, the young man that checked us in seemed uncomfortable and a bit on the brusk side. There was nothing inappropriate said or done, but "welcome" is no the word I would use. This was a minimal unpleasantry in an otherwise wonderful experience.

Il Lazzeretto is the perfect distance from the old city of San Gimignano. You can see the old city from the hill upon which Il Lazzeretto is perched, and yet it is only a 10-15 minute walk away. The apartment is modest but has everything you need. The patio and gardens are lovely for sitting and admiring the views in all directions.

From the north: Highway A1 direction of ROME. Exit " FIRENZE CERTOSA ". Take by-pass " SUPERSTRADA FIRENZE - SIENA " in direction of SIENA. Exit " POGGIBONSI NORD " and follow the sign for SAN GIMIGNANO. Arrive at SAN GIMIGNANO, and turn left ( direction VOLTERRA ) at the first round-about. Turn left 300 metres later, sign for " IL LAZZERETTO ". From the south: Highway A1 direction of MILANO. Exit " VALDICHIANA " and follow the sign for SIENA. Arrive at SIENA take by-pass " SUPERSTRADA FIRENZE - SIENA " in direction of FIRENZE. Exit " POGGIBONSI NORD " and follow the sign for SAN GIMIGNANO.
