Borgo Papareschi is located near Trastevere and Testaccio in the heart of Rome, minutes from the city's historic center and only 15 minutes from the Made in Italy food center, "Eataly", located by Ostiense train station.

The building is a renovated 19th-century former farmhouse which belonged to the Church of San Crisogono in Trastevere. While maintaining the charm of its era, the building is completely renovated and offers all the modern comforts, such as free WiFi, safety box at reception, air conditioning in common areas, and free parking. On request, guests can access laundry services and a shuttle service to and from the airport. The area is well connected to the city center by public transport. The Trastevere train station is a short walk away and the bus stops nearby (Via Marconi).

In an unseasonably cold November our first couple of days at Casali Papareschi were not comfortable. Apparently there are laws in Rome governing the dates for activation of heat and air conditioning in hotels. Once heat was activated we much enjoyed our stay though you do wonder if temporary provisioning of a small space heater would help in such circumstances. Trastevere may not suit everyone. For first time visitors wanting to spend most of their time at the main sights, it may be a bit remote even though the 170 bus is very frequent and there's just a 10 minute walk to the station. For us it was ideal, away from the touristy centro storico with a feel of real Italy. It has a charm of its own, plenty of life, and despite the transitional state of the land towards the river, is totally safe day and night. Still, the current pedestrian approach is a bit ramshackle and the newer walkway towards the river requires more route-finding. It would be a big plus for the owners to give a detailed description of this approach on their website. As for the accommodation itself, full marks to Alicia (spelling?) and the cleaning staff for their warmth and efficiency We loved the spaciousness of the rooms but would offer a few suggestions: A little more time spent at check-in explaining room features - TV operation, gas stove activation etc.. As other reviewers have pointed out, the rooms are sparsely furnished. One or two small shelving units, nothing fancy, one in the bedroom and one in the main living area, would make all the difference. Hooks. There were none in our apartment. No towel or clothes hooks in the bathroom, no clothes hooks in the bed or living rooms. A mirror in the living or bedroom, a couple more pictures, would make the place feel less spartan. Casali Papareschi doesn't advertise luxury accommodation and in terms of cleanliness and convenience, what they provide for guests is very good. These low cost changes would enhance guest experience.

Very spacious apartments with secure parking and wifi. Rooms are not brightly lit (perhaps this is typical as other hotels were similar). Relatively well equipped kitchen but no tea towels or easy drying locations for laundry within the apartment.

We chose this apartment hotel because we wanted to be out of the central area and also wanted to experience a different side of Rome. We were very happy with the accommodation which was simple but just what we wanted for a short stay (6 nights). The reception staff were fantastic, always helpful and smiling, and we felt very welcome. The local area is typical urban suburb but it is very simple to get to some key sights. It was easy to get into central Rome, although both buses and trams are very crowded, but it was a great way to meet both Romans and other travellers! We met lots of families staying in the apartments who all seemed pretty happy. We found our apartment cool, quiet and it looked like the photos. We'd certainly stay there again. We recommend Ad Enzo in Trastevere(close to Piazza S. Cecilia) and Retro, just round the corner from the apartments, for eating. Don't miss the Gallery of Modern Art in Borghese Gardens or the Doria Pamphilia palace! Both are amazing.

Excellent value, clean! Safe! Located within blocks of the 170 bus that takes you to the center of Rome for all the sights. Staff friendly. Market within say 4 blocks, better one 8 blocks. Room minimal in furnishings but has every thing you need. Who comes to Italy to stay in their room/apt? Would stay here again.

Lovely apartment, well furnished and spacious with everything we needed. Location ok in terms of public transport, bus route easy for central Rome, 15 minute ride. The staff at the apartment were very helpful and pleasant. We were very impressed and enjoyed our stay.

Our expectations were definitely met! The room was great - lots of space (probably more than what was needed for two people). The woman at the front counter, Suzan, was extremely friendly and helpful! It was a good experience and I would recommend the apartment, especially if you need space. It was also easy to catch the bus to get to Rome Center (probably a 15 min bus ride).
