Aparthotel Globales Tamaimo Tropical - Puerto de Santiago

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights. We preferred to be away from the ultra resort areas of the south-west coast, and it turned out to be a good decision. The coastal volcanic scenery of Los Gigantes is exceptional! I really liked Tamaimo as we could either eat at the buffet restaurant, or do self catering (it was a two room apartment). It was great for 2, would be ok for 3, but not 4 as was advertised. It was not super-modern, but fairly homey (nicely presented), and we both felt very comfortable there. Our rooms did not have air-con but we tended to leave the windows and a balcony door open of an evening and that seemed to do the trick for us... There was a kitchennette (would be good to review the supplies as there was an odd number of things sometimes inadeqate e.g. 1 cup) and a balcony with table and chairs so nice to have an evening glass of wine if you felt like it. Our rooms overlooked the pools and entertainment complex which were very popular. It is easily accessible from the airport with the Bono buscard (change at Los Cristianos) and it positioned near the stunning Los Gigantes. The place we favoured for swimming was pristine, crystal-clear and good for snorkelling (very rocky so many people had those slip on rubber shoues to manage the slippery rocks). There were also a couple of supermarkets in the area but as they are vying for mainly a touristic crowd are not extremely cheap but ok price-wise. The location was good for accessing the south- western areas of Tenerife (airport south terminal, the las Playa America/Los Christianos area, Los Gigantes, Masca, the salt-water pool at Playa Paraiso and probably El Tiede). We made a trip to Santa Cruz, but probably it would be better to stay there a couple of days to take advantage of a night programme (they had a jazz festival outside the Auditorio, so we were very sad we could not see the programme due to the timing of our return bus. A very good hotel, quiet. A lot of activities. An hotel to advise.

our stay in March was the first at Hi Taimaino, where we met principally english native speakers (families). In the hotel we felt comfortable, a pool (one is heated)could be used at any time. Our studio size was just about sufficient for two. Good supermarket right in front of the hotel, which is nicely located close to Los Gigantos. At night some inhouse entertainment, outhouse more quiet area. Price/offer ratio was good,self cooking ok/restaurant offered. We would come back.

NOT AS GOOD AS PREVIOUS VISITS - BIT NOISY AND THEY NOW USE SECURITY GUARDS WHO CARRY STICKS. DID'NT SEE ANY TROUBLE BUT IT DOES SEEM TO HAPPEN. VERY CROWDED AROUND THE POOL UNLIKE PREVIOUS VISITS - LOOKED AWFUL WITH NO ROOM BETWEEN THE SUNBEDS. EXCELLENT NEW RESTAURANT OPPOSITE - BARCO DE NINO. WENT 3 TIMES AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS. ALSO BRITISH OWNED BUT EXCELLENT TAPAS BAR IN LOS GIGANTES CALED THE FRIENDLY DOLPHIN

very good stay in Aparthotel Tamaimo Tropical, good Hotel, good foods at Breakfast time and very good Cocktails at the Bar. Really a good place to stay!

This was a last minute booking on Saturday. Unfortunately when we arrived on Sunday they hadn't recieved the booking because their offices close over the weekend. If booking via the web at weekends follow up with a telephone call(they speak good english). Building work is currently going on opposite, althought this affects the front rooms and is not too intrusive in the centre pools and bar areas. Nice layout of two circular communal areas, pools and bars and a local supermarket just round the corner(2 mins walk). We traveled as a couple with infant and the appartment room had microwave for sterlising, fridge and double hob. We didn't get a cot due to the late booking, but used a materess from the sofa bed. Not much to do for teenagers apart from the swimming pools and the pool tables although they can walk into town. A quieter area than Americas etc and a nice little harbour/marina at Los Gigantees(taxi/car) which is 5 minutes away for eating and drinking.
