Biarritz Océan Résidence Hôtelière - Biarritz

We stayed in a quad apartment (number 204). The bunk beds are in a tiny dark alcove off the hallway with no window,door/curtain. This is not suitable for four adults.The bunk beds just about fit into the alcove.The kitchen was very well equipped but again tiny. It included a dishwasher and full oven The public hallways leading to the apartments are very dark even in broad daylight and the carpet in one area was filthy (outside the lift on the 2nd floor). Cleaning staff are very attentive to the apartments.The city tax was higher than that quoted and I did not expect to have to clean the apartment and defrost the fridge before we left or they deduct 60 euros from your card otherwise.The hotel, however, is very well situated in Biarritz with two to three minutes walk from the centre and 5 minutes from Le Grande Plage. Getting out and about in Biarritz involves a certain amount of climbing that can't be avoided. 'La Pizzeria'in the vicinity of Hotel du Palace is well worth a visit but go early to get a table as it is very popular. This is a better area for all the nice restaurants. I would not have said this is a four star property but more in keeping with a three star. This disappointed me as I had different expectations on our arrival regarding the standard of decor which I found to be basic. The garden view apartments are better to have then a street view, but I'm not convinced that 'view' was worth an additional 10 euros per day as everyone going pass looked in. I can see why it is a surfer's paradise.. very big waves. Carrafour's supermarket has all you'll need and is within a very short walking distance from this accommodation and the bakery is just around the corner. Finally, check out is too early at 10.00 a.m. I'd recommend to hire a car if a tan isn't your priority so that you can see this beautiful region.

Nice, clean and spacious apartment with a good location.

We were 3 adults travelling and the space for the bunk beds was really an alcove. If privacy and more space is needed suggest two full bedrooms are booked. If you are a family with a couple of children it is ideal. The standard of the hotel was excellent, the staff on reception a delight with good English to assist.Location is 5 minutes from the beach, restaurants , bars , the movies every thing you could want.One disappointment for us was the lack of a washing machine either in the kitchen of the appartment or a washing /drying area in the hotel.We were travelling for another 2 weeks so this was a nuisance for us.If this is unimportant then each traveller will have a different opinion. Overall we would highly recommend this place.Some pointers are that breakfasts are over priced like all hotels. Fantastic boulangerie 2 mins away so create your own. Good supermarket under the Lafayette dept. store 2 mins from the hotel to buy fresh fruit or items to build your own meals to escape restaurants every evening. A trip over the Spanish border is very easy to San Sebastian to add variety.Beautiful coastal walks too or just laze on the great beaches. We had a marvelous time and will return.
