Nice flat but on the 3rd floor without lift.Spacious rooms. The flat had a little kitchen but had very low cooking equipment.(no possibility to heat something else than milk or water for breakfast.) Quite far from Barcelona Center but Metro at 10 mn from the hotel.

Located in a pleasant residential area with excellent access to Metro and buses, we found our way about the area and Barcelona very easily thanks to the info supplied by reception. Hope to re-visit some time. On a negative note, the "penthouse" we rented for two nights is use of that word in its broadest sense, more of a room built on the flat roof area with limited view

At arriving, the cooking equipment was dirty (not cleaned at all). It was impossible to lock the terrace window. During a rainy day, the cleaning people left the terrace window open and, at our arrival in the evening, the ground in the living room was partially flooded.

Hotel was in city area, many stores and restaurants in area. Very good and cheap "bistro" (pizza/pasta) about 5 min away and good bakery for breakfast about 10 min. away. Bus stop about 1 blk away to get to main downtown. Felt safe in area, many businesses and average people in area. Staff very helpful for trip planning with good English skills.

Very nice stay in room 108 (non smoker). As usual, poor noise insulation, but anyway it's the same almost everywhere and here you get a real small home. Room is certainly not 45 sq meters ! But big enough to feel very very confortable. Beware parents with kids, 1,2 km to walk climbing from the metro station to the hotel. Watch out the district map carrefully, there's a trick at the exit of the metro to the hotel, that may lead to an extra 1 km walking - I can't give you the trick, I lost each time ;-/ Something like you go in and go out in the metro station not at the same door, and not in the same avenue. Absolutely nothing to see in the suburbs, appart from a nice little supermarket so you can find there everything for preparing breakfast and lunch in your room. In the room, everything is included, but I suggest you bring some plactic or wood kitchen accessories as those included ones are only metallic and you will simply destroy the saucepans if you use them. Cleaning is made everyday, on your part we did carefully the washing of the kitchen side, just to be correct with the staff. TV, no music. No need to make cleaning at departure, which is a very FAIR thing, which makes excusable the hourly cost of WIFI (anyway you can find easyly a MacDonalds somewhere). We really did find myself like at home. NOT a place to party with friends, but more like a family comfort place. The staff ranks from friendly (the young one) to less frindly (the older ones), but all in all, be friendly yourself and I'm sure you'll get friendshipness in return. I will come back again for sure. The parking is 16 euros for 24 hours, sounds expensive, but not really compared to other solutions in Barcelona. You can park for free by the olympic stadium, VERY far. If this is a problem, find out how those green parking places do work (limited time ?), it's possible (but difficult) to find vacants ones just around. There is also a 3 euros/hour big underground parking, may help.

As we only stayed at Hotel Betran for one night (due to the Madrid strike that forced us to scramble for a room), we enjoy our stay here. I would recommend this hotel to families and those that want a more vacation home place while you stay in Barcelona. The location is out of the way, and probably benefit those that drive, other then that, the rooms are spacious

We did not think the hotel was easy to find and had not appreciated the need to take a subway from the city centre. The short journey to and from the city centre was no problem during our 4 night stay but we had great difficulty finding the hotel on our first night. Despite requesting a smoking room on our booking form we were allocated a non-smoking room. Also we had an extremely noisy room at the front of the hotel and the toilet wasn't working properly - the water ran into the cistern all night until my husband turned the water off. However all faults were promptly rectified in the morning and we were very happy with the quiet room at the back of the hotel which allowed us to smoke and had a fully functioning toilet. The reception made the requested change easily and with good grace. Thanks for a nice stay. We would return and recommend others to try this hotel.

at 1st me and my parents were judging the comments that made from everyone who used to stay in the hotel. but trust me, all the comments are real, this hotel provided very good accomodations and great services. transportations access are great for us who use hop on and off bus. 5 mins away to the metro station, 1.40euro to travel to the city centre. great coffee shops and restaurants can be found around that area too. if u really want me to comment about the bad, then i would say the bed place too close to the toilet so it's a little bit disturbing when we flush. but i will definately suggest you to stay here. far from the noise in the city and the staff provided great services.

Everything was perfect ! Very polite and friendly staff. When we asked the possibility to change the room they offered us to see 4 free rooms and choose the one we like. Rooms are big, clear and in a very good state, cleaned every day. Very clean and spacious bathroom. The isolation of rooms is not perfect, but we didn't have any problem as the hotel was not full at all. There is a possibility of parking place for 10 euros per day (it's difficult to find a place for the car on the street !) The hotel is situated close to metro station (15 min to go to the center of the city). If you come back late it's not a problem as there is somebody in reception all night long. The breakfast is very good, you get it at your room every morning at the time indicated by you. Moreover they have a catering service (in case you want to have a dinner in you room). We enjoyed our stay in Hotel Bertran and we highly reccomend it to everybody!

A pleasant place to stay, especially if space is considered. The shape of the room we had was kind of weird as its very long and kind of narrow, but there's certainly lots of space! Location was not very clearly marked, so it took us a while to find. Once there though, we were very relaxed and content. You have 2 different lines of metros for you to choose from, and going into town was only a matter of 10 minutes. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is located in a residential area, so a few nice cafe but restaurant choices are rather limited. Having a kitchen was also nice, and we happily cooked one meal and one breakfast there. There's also a handy supermarket nearby as well as 2 fresh fruits/vege stores. Definitely value for money, and I won't hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel is not in the central aerea but well connected (15 minutes by metro, a bet more by bus). Parking in the street is very difficult and expensive, so you have either to use the garage of the hotel (15 euros/24h, discounted to 50 euros for 5 days), or to find a free parking zone (Zona Universitaria is OK) but make sure you do not live anything inside the car. The surroundings of the hotel are just ordinary and without restaurants; happily a small supermarket is very close and always open. Hotel Bertran is still a real bargain in Barcelona with an exceptionnal relationship between price/quality : 55 euros/night for a large room with bathroom, kitchenette and balcony.

We had a very nice stay here. We stayed in a quadrupal room that had one queen bed and two twin beds. It has a balcony, but the balcony is taken up by the air conditioning unit so we were not able to use it. The room overlooked the street and was a little noisy, but it did not disrupt our sleep. The staff was very helpfull and spoke english well. We were very happy with our stay and will probably stay again should the need arise.

Traveling with husband for a short break to Barcelona. Hotel was very welcoming, we booked a double room but were then given a twin, receptionist was very willing for us to have keys to another room to choose which we wanted. We chose double room on front of hotel which was a bit noisier, but I liked to watch the world go by. Facilities were fairly basic but perfect for a short break, with nice touches like washing up liquid provided. The cleanliness was very good and it was lovely to have the self catering facilities but also have someone come in to make the bed and clean round. We did have a problem with excessive heat until we realised that we could fully control it with the air conditioning. The receptionists were friendly and offered advise above and beyond the call of duty, particularly the initial one who spoke fluent English & had even visited our home town in England. We expected to have a safe in our room but instead it was in reception with just a small deposit for the key, this worked very well & seemed very safe. The whole stay was excellent & I would definately stay there again & recommend it to others.

My first time in Barcelona. Very welcoming. Room was very dated and had a funny smell which turned me off at the beginning. But this was more than offset by the size of the room and the friendliness of the staff. Breakfast delivered to the room, with great cafe au lait was a nice touch (though the croissants got a bit monotonous). Very quiet and well located close to a Metro so I could easily get where I wanted. All in all, excellent value for the price.

While the hotel was generally OK and the price right for the quality of room and services, the main problem was the noise from inside the hotel. I think I was probably unlucky, but the first night the person in the room next door had, what I worked out later, was probably a call girl, who wore high healed shoes and woke me first at 2am by dancing in the room next door on the tiled floors. Unable to sleep I eventually complained to the front desk at 3.45am, and they called the person and asked if they could be quiet. While their intervention helped, I could still hear the people. The next night I asked if they would change my room, which they did. Again, I was unlucky with three guys partying until 1am in the room next door. I am not a party pooper, but I have to make the point that the sound proofing between rooms is not that good. So, overall, the hotel is OK, but noisy.

A stay at this hotel is definitely recommended if you want an economically priced room (especially for four people in a room) that is fairly convenient to the cruise port, downtown and airport. It is also supposed to be really close to the train, though we took taxis. There is a pastry shop right next door (no coffee) and a grocery about a block away that is convenient since there is a kitchenette in the room.

The hotel is out of the central town (Tibidabo area) but in a residential location with a little street noise in the morning. There is a 5 minute walk to a Metro station, Tibidabo, which will take you to the begining of Las Ramblas, (Catalunya stop) close to the old town. Both stations are begining/end of the line stops. The entire Metro ride will take no more than 10 minutes. The Staff was very helpful and polite. All of those I encountered spoke English. Breakfast was substantial and served to our room. The hotel is older but I found it to be clean and spacious for our family of four. There were not many restaurants in the area but the one the staff recommended was outstanding...La Madeline.

We were given a recommendation for a nearby restaurant- MOLINA Bar Restaurant- and I cannot rate this highly enough. Our arrival at Hotel Bertran was at the end of a 2 week visit to Europe. We were very hot and tired, and were elated to see the clean, spacious and comfy room, with a Full Bed and 2 twins. We had made an error in our booking, and were supposed to arrive the next day!, but no problem - we were accomodated with a smile. This hotel is perfect for families, as there are cooking facilities, a frig and a dining table, which we made great use of. Grocery stores and markets are a short walk away (5-10 min). The room was spacious and designed to provide privacy between sleeping areas. Hotel Bertran is located just a couple of blocks from the 'Ave. Tibidabo' Metro stop, which runs centrally through Barcelona, crossing most other lines. We walked to Park Guell, and the neighborhood feels residential and safe. The rooftop pool is 'very' small (hotel picture is deceiving), but we played in it almost every day. You just have to take turns with other guests. Pool towels are provided. Overall, this was a delightful stop for us, and a great way to end the trip! Highly recommended.

it was ideal accommadation for families it was a little outside the centre but was easily accessible via bus train or tour bus,it could have more facilities available in the hotel like a vending machine for biscuits extra as you were very limited to what you could buy only pop or beer. A bar would be a good idea.i would stay there agsin without any hesitation, the reception staff were really helpful if you asked them something and they didn't know they would find out for you and leave a message for you. they were excellant with my son and for ordering in take aways.

My hotel room 208 was really big. 2 separate beds I had to put them close toghether. to get to the ramblas you gotta walk 5 min then take the metro at valcarca station and from there is 10 min train ride. really close to mount Tibidabo breakfast is served to you in your room if you chose that option for 10 euros a day for 2 people and they bring you rich basket of mini muffins and pastries...if you ask for extra you can have cereals ham and chese...but is not worth the cost of the add on.

The hotel room was clean but the room we had at the front of the hotel was very noisy at night. However there was no problem about changing it for a room a similar room at the back which proved to be very quiet. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Travel to the city centre was quick, cheap and easy via the Metro taking only about 15 minutes. I would strongly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

This location is ideal for families or others seeking a quieter, less busy location to set up camp. There are several markets nearby where you can get supplies to use in the apartment's kitchen area. The closest Metro / train stop is about 5 minutes away, an easy walk, and the "Bus Turistic" has a stop at the same location. Also, Bertran is near the foot of the Tramvia Blau, the streetcar used to get to the funicular that accesses Tibidabo, the mountain-top amusement park. Parc Guell is about 20 minutes to the easy - a hilly but simple walk, with ample reward. The staff at Bertan were welcoming and helpful. The pool is very small but still refreshing, and the rooftop terrace where the pool is also serves as a great place to unwind, day or night. The breakfast, if you choose it, is enormous; we were never able to eat all of the baked goods that arrived each day. The beds seemed new or nearly new, and were firm and comfortable. The bathroom was large, but lacks places to hang towels.

Excellent self-catering large room for the price of a normal hotel room. Kitchen and equipment very good. Remember to ask for 'matrimonial' bed if you want it made up as a proper double (with double sheets/duvet/doona). Nice balcony which we didn't have time to use in 3 days/nights of sightseeing. Easy short drive from airport on good roads avoiding the city. Location is fine for Metro trips to anywhere in the city, and has good local food/bread shops - although not a very attractive area. It was however quiet at night (no rowdy bars/clubs/street parties nearby). Staff were very friendly and helpful in suggestions for directions and sightseeing. Parking was at the hotel, for an extra charge (Euro 13 per day) as expected, and convenient - although we did not use the car during our stay - preferring to use the cheap and effective Metro (plus lots of walking) to everywhere. The rooftop pool looked nice and clean, and the entire hotel was well kept. A nice local walk (uphill via outdoor escalators!) to Gaudi's Park Guell was well worth the time an effort. We would certainly recommend this hotel particularly for anyone staying more than one or two nights.

Very comfortable hotel, near underground stops (Tibidabo or Vallcarca). Clean and spacious rooms; hope that your neighbours are not noisy (the first night there was a spanish party near us until 2 a.m.!). You can visit the fantastic Park Guell, that's just 15 minutes walking from the hotel.

In planning my trip I read many reviews on this site and was dismayed by the negative comments about many of the receptionists. Those at Hotel Bertran were exceptional. They answered my pre-trip emails promptly offering additional advice about finding the property and confirming the availability of twin and non-smoking rooms. When we arrived they were friendly, helpful, efficient and courteous, spoke excellent English and quickly settled us into our room. The included breakfast was ample with the option of extras if required. We received accurate advice about transport systems and although the hotel was not within walking distance of the main tourist attractions it was within easy reach of the cheap and efficient metro and tourist bus. The room was laid out to allow one person to sleep and another to use the lounge area without disturbing one another. I would recommend the property for anyone prefering a degree of independance rather than the pampering of a hotel with the additional benefits of a kitchenette and space.

We trusted reviews submitted by other readers when booking this room for our one night stay in Barcelona. We HIGHLY recommend Hotel Bertran. Not only did we have a kitchen, sitting area and dinette but we also had a private patio where we toasted our good fortune! One tip: when arriving from the airport on the bus, be certain you know exactly how and EXACTLY WHERE to make your connection to the Tibidabo metro station BEFORE you are burdened with luggage. Once we understood the system, traveling to and from the hotel was a cinch. Enjoy!

This property was everything we expected and more. When we arrived the manager offered us a more spacious apartment in the building next door at no additional charge. The entire staff was very friendly and accomodating. The location is 5 metro stops from Catalunya, the Vallcarca station about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There is also a stop of the HOHO bus within a 10 minute walk. It is a quiet, safe neighborhood with pastry shops and food markets within 2 blocks. In-room wireless internet access is available for a reasonable charge. There was not a very good pot for making coffee. I would book with this property again if I return to Barcelona.

Good hotel, even if a bit difficult to find. The best option is to get to the metro station Catalunya first, and then take line 7 to Tibidabo. When you reach the street level, turn right, cross the street, walk straight ahead, turn right again at the Carrer de Lucá, and then right again at the Carrer de Bertrán. It's a five minute's walk. The only complaint I have is regarding the (lacking) quietness of the room. Very early on Saturday morning a group of girls (probably American teenagers) burst into the hotel, shouting and screaming without regard for other guests. The noise went on for quite a while - very easily right through the walls. Annoying indeed. Otherwise, the hotel is fine, and I would go there again. The distance from the city centre is not a big problem.

The hotel is good. Our expectations were totally satisfied: the room was large and clean. The position is not the best but the hotel is near (5 min by walk) the Tibidabo metro station and from this station you can reach the centre in 10 min. In the night, when the metro is closed, you will be able to take the N5 bus (from catalunya square)

I didn't have any real concept about how far out from the centre the hotel was located but in the end it wasn't an isssue as the trains/underground were frequent, reasonably priced and spotlessly clean. If you want something in the middle of the action don't use this hotel but as I had a limited budget this more than fit the bill. As a general comment I loved Barcelona - and am intending returning again this year with a friend.

As usual with venere the nmaps and directions are hopeless, and you have to ask your way. The street is unimpressive, a back street, but quiet and convenient for shops and cafes, but no real restaurants nearby. The train to the centre is excellent, makes all the difference, and thye blue tram and funicular up the hill is a pleasant surprise. Well equipped appartment, very quiet on the back - the terraces are on tghe street side and not very interesting. Very discreet service and they know your name.

Great location if you don't want to have to walk out of the hotel and into a wall of traffic. Access to transport, excellent, and also to parks, eg Guell, but a bit sparse on locating dining options so plan and eat elsewhere before stretching your legs and walking back up the hill or catching train. The website is a little misleading in locating the Hotel on the map. Tibidabo is the local station, with others nearby. Front desk staff are very helpful, more so than the Tourist office personel.
