Great location. Right in the middle of all the sights, in walking distance of all. Only complaint was the beds were hard and breakfast was redundant (croissant sprinkled with powder sugar, yogurt). It was enough to get you to lunch, but I'm not a croissant lover. However, the cappuccino was excellent! Other than that, we would definitely stay there again based on value and location!!

Hotel staff were SO helpful - gave advice, helped with directions, helped us make reservations and advised us on several things. They went above and beyond. the hotel is hard tio find, but so is most everything in Venice it seems. Was a little loud because of the alleyway, but the spot is so cloet o both Realto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. We had breakfast there - good, healthy breakfast.

Grazie molto per i bellissimi giorni nella vostra casa e anche per lingua italiana esercizi - in particolare per Anna. We liked the informal, open athmosphere of ai Bareteri - it felt somehow like home. The fact that the owners run the house, has a great impact for the athmosphere and quality of the service. The interior of the house is decorated in a minimalistic and peacefull way with scillfully made wooden furniture and details. The italian breakfast was exellent - especially the coffee. The location is perfect at the halfway between San Marco and Rialto bridge. We recommend the accommodation for those, who don´t care too much for formalities, like to come and go independently and have reasons to be economically reasonable (even though you decided to visit Venice).

Comfy enough, sufficient for busy travelers, and a good value for the price. The tall gentleman who checked us in was very nice, gave us a map and showed us four local restaurants on the map. When I asked, he was very forthcoming with info on current live music events. The woman was quieter but makes a good cappucino. They were kind enough to store our luggage after checkout so we could make use of our last morning in charming Venezia. Location in central San Marco is close to all major attractions. Rooms outfitted with ikea furniture and accessories. Our room 102 included two twin beds pushed together to make king, a foldout sofa, a small desk, one luggage stand. Sufficient outlets beside bed, but the headboard made access a challenge. Included breakfast was yogurt, orange juice, sweet roll, plain roll, jams or nutella-type spread, and espresso drink (cappucino or etc). My sister's room 103 had three twin beds. In both rooms, noise was a problem now that high season has given way to maintenance season. My sister was wakened on two mornings by jackhammering under her window. There was street noise at night under our streetside window, but not between 2am and 6am.

This is a wonderful place to stay - just a little hard to find. But then again, so are many things in Venice, the "city you love to get lost in." I had contacted the hotel prior to coming, and got their map - venere's map was not adequate. But that aside, this is the owner's grandmother's place, and he and his brother (at least the two of them, perhaps others) own it, adn take great pride in their ownership and the services they offer. The difficulty for older folks (we are 62 and 66, and have no trouble with stairs) is that our room was up 70 stairs from the street! But it was great pleasure arriving in our room, and the noise of the street (that is the only noise here) was sufficiently muffled by the new and thick windows. Venice is a city where sound travels around corners, down alleys and narrow streets, and that human contact, both appreciated and yet occasionally burdensome, is what makes this city so great. Of course, not a car in sight or sound, and the gondoliers and occasional motor barge are the only sounds you hear, other than the verbal interchange, the sounds and spontaneous singing of the Venetians. Ai Bareteri is located about 5 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco, and is halfway between San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. The owners were very happy to recommend inexpensive, as well as "special treat," restaurants, and were always available and solicitous. A GREAT place, truly!

Great location, in the heart of shopping area, large, clean comfortable room. The weather was in the mid 60's for the night so it was alright for sleeping, with the windows closed. There is no air conditioning in the room as posted in the add which could be a concern if it was hot at night since the windows opened out into the main shopping area with people noise. The location on the map could be clearer as we had a hard time finding it but we called and they met us, carried our bags up to the 3rd floor( no elevator) great service.

Central and convenient location makes up for any other problems, such as the 90 steps up to our room. Bit we therefore had a view, which most people wouldn't. Direct booking would probably have been cheaper. Lovely warm rooms for a winter stay.

We enjoyed our stay. The one noise problem (young girls in the next room) was handled well by the staff (we presume), so was not a bother for us. The hotel is very well situated and was very quiet, -even with windows open. We would recommend it and come again. -Bob and Bev Corwin

We had read that finding this hotel could prove difficult, but we had no difficulty in following the map provided by the hotel at all. Arriving by Alilaguna from the airport, it took us about 10-15 minutes to find. We found the hotel in an excellent situation for both St Marks & Rialto. We found the accommodation excellent for the price and the staff were cheerful and helpful. We would mention for those who have difficulty with stairs that there was no lift, but if this is not a problem we would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I would stay at this property again. It was centrally located in the St. Marcos area and the hosts were very helpful. The only thing that would have made it better was air conditioning.

Welcoming and services were excellent, at a high rate for the price we paid. The place is a very convenient one, close to San Marco and Ponte Rialto, much better than being near railway station or anythoing else !

This is a great, reasonably-priced find in an expensive city. The rooms were very clean, staff were friendly and the location is fantastic.

Ai Bareteri is a great place with clean, comfortable rooms. The location is great. The manager was very nice and we enjoyed our stay very much. The only suggestion I would make is to let people know there are some rooms that can be "loud." For example, our room faced a small restauarant across the street. It was very noisy--plates clanging, restaurant employees talking and singing, etc. We also were right over a street and could hear passersby. Further, within the hotel, there was foot traffic in the hallways past our room. We heard people come home at night--quite loud--and also heard plates and voices from the breakfast. This is not a criticism of the hotel in any way! I would just tell a prospective guest to ask for a quiet room if he wants one--I'm sure they exist, we just didn't get one and didn't know to ask.

It's a bit difficult to find the 'locanda' and the map in the web is not very helpful, but it was very nice, clean and close to Rialto and San Marcos. We will repeat next time in Venezia.

Iose Maria is a lovely, caring host. She gave us very helpful restaurant suggestions including one VERY reasonable dinner that was the best we had in 20 days in Italy. The room she offers is the back 1/3 of her flat. Although you walk through her living room to reach it, doors assure complete privacy. Trastevere is a wonderful area of Rome, similar in a way to Soho in Manhattan.

Good Value, Clean with Large room Difficult to find for thoses not used to Venice, the access to the "street" looks more like a shop entrance....

Excellent value and location, once you find it. Call and get directions from the Hotel staff as the map provided is not properly detailed. Rooms were very large, spacious and comfortable with modern bathroom facilites. A word of caution, there is no telephone access for guests.
