About Town House Suite 3749 Ponte Chiodo

townhouse exterior Town House Suite 3749 Ponte Chiodo townhouse exterior The friendly 3749 Ponte Chiodo Town House Suite is located in an important artistic area of Venice, just steps from the famous Ca'd'Oro Palace and in close proximity to major attractions such as the Rialto Bridge, its adjacent market and Saint Mark's Square.

Although it boasts a very central location, the property is nestled in a quiet street away from major tourist routes.

Fully restored in 2003 and featuring a splendid private garden, this old Venetian residence takes its name from the very unique ancient bridge (ponte) without a parapet which characterizes the property's main entrance, the only remaining bridge of its kind on the entire island of Venice.

On-site amenities include a fax service, a complimentary Internet corner and free Wi-Fi connectivity on the first floor and in the garden. Guests can also take advantage of a common kitchen area with coffee and tea-making facilities.

The host and location of his B and B are superlative in so many respects; he is unobtrusive yet charming, extremely gracious and well-informed. The location is quiet, and very easy to access; the host has a list of great eating places. The single room is tiny, but spotless and filled with light and air. Appreciated little extras, such as the garden, internet, fruit, books on the city. Ponte Chiodo seems to attract interesting guests who return often to this lovely place.

As a single traveller I found 3749 Ponte Chiodo guesthouse to be a wonderful base in Venice. Good location and access to both touristy areas and more local areas of Venice. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast in the garden each morning. Matthia a very welcoming host with great adivice to travellers.

Ponte Chiodo is a beautiful hide-away, yet close to shops, restaurants and the canal. It had a lovely, quiet setting. It was perfect.

Highly recommended for those who want basic clean and affordable B&B accommodation on the edge of the main tourist area - but within easy walking distance of it.

We would definitely stay here again - the view from the window, the quiet location and the beautiful garden make this a very attractive place. However, we stayed in the room with separate private bathroom - apparently only this one room is not en-suite. A bath robe was not provided, and the bathroom was not only very small, but badly laid out. A larger person would find it very difficult to wriggle round the shower doors. Also, there was no chest of drawers in the room. We found Venice overwhelmingly busy, so we were glad we chose this quiet location 'far from the madding crowd'. You are still only a few minutes from the major sites, but you always know you can come back to some peace and quiet. Opposite the house is the end of the Fondamenta Misericordia, a beautiful canal side walk with interesting shops and very Italian, away from the tourists. We were told it is very beautiful and romantic for an evening stroll - passeggiata, since the sun sets along the length of the canal, but sadly we did not have time to find out. A few minutes north is the Fondamente Nuove, where you can catch the Waterbus LN (Lagoon North) service to Murano, Burano and Torcello. These islands are a welcome alternative to the bustle of the main sites, and Torcello has in the Basilica Santa Maria Assunta some of the best Byzantine mosaics you will see anywhere, which along with the mosaics in Santa Maria E Donate on Murano, became the highlights of our trip. We found St Mark's somewhat disappointing since we went to Torcello first. We were glad we got 48 hour tickets for the waterbus. Tip: don't come back to Fondamente Nouve – get the hourly LN service right round the lagoon to the Lido, sit in the open upper deck and get unforgettably stunning views as you arrive at St Mark's San Zaccaria. We were very pleased with the excellent restaurant recommendations from the owner – this included La Zucca, a superb vegetarian friendly restaurant where we had one of our best vegetarian meals eve

Excellent accommodations; great support from staff; perfect location. Removed from the crowds, but within walking distance to the most popular sights Venice has to offer. Our room was on ground floor and overlooked a quiet canal. Very romantic. Will stay there again when we return to Venice.

The hotel is a lovely building in a great location and the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. It is a trivial point but if you make yourselves a drink and take it to your room please be expected to take the cups back down to the kitchen and wash them yourselves as housekeeping won't do it for you. Also, we stayed for 4 nights and the towels weren't changed. After 2 nights we left bath towels in the shower expecting them to be changed but when we got back to the room they had been hung up on a hook, still damp.

This was our first time at 3749 Ponte Chiodo. The walking directions from the waterbus stop were excellent - otherwise we may never have found it. The room was very clean and charming. We had the room with the bathroom across the hall and it wasn't a problem since we had the only key. The location was excellent, the service was very friendly and helpful, and we felt at home. We actually threw Mattia a curve ball by having to check out before he arrived - he wasn't too happy with us, understandably so - and it was my fault, but he rolled with the flow and it worked out. I would stay there again any day - I loved it. My husband and 2 suitcases fell down the stairs in the early morning that we left and we apologize to the unfortunate visitor in room #1! That's a bit of a nasty curve on the stairs. p.s. I picked this hotel based on reviews on this website and I was not disappointed.

The Ponte Chiodo has a great garden to sit in and have breakfast, internet available, and the location was great. We could get to the vaporetto and catch a traghetto to the market easily. It was nice to have a live-in assistant on staff there. The owner made some great recommendations for meals and tours.

Town House Suite 3749 is conveniently close to the Grand Canal Line 1 stop (5th stop) and is easy to find. Also, quite close to the island water buses starting point near Chiesa di Jesuiti. The hotel owner, Matteo, and his able staff, Vajira manage the property well and are full of good tips for sightseeing. I particularly enjoyed the walking route suggested by Matteo. A lot of independence as you are given your own set of keys to go in and come out as you like. And, you can make your own tea and coffee at any time other than breakfast in the delightful little kitchen and have a cookie or fruit kept on the sideboard. Internet access is free for guests, so that was a bonus. The room I stayed in was tiny but convenient, comfortable and delightfully furnished with all the necessary accessories (aircondition, TV, fridge, ensuite bathroom etc). Lovely garden where breakfast was served and the only time that you get to see the other guests, who were mainly from Europe. Enjoyed my stay at the townhouse suite and would definitely stay there, when I revisit Venice.

My cousins & I stayed a week here. It was my 8th visit to Venice & without a doubt 3749 P C has been the best place to stay. It is very clean, comfortable, central - & to enjoy breakfast each morning in the garden was absolute bliss. The staff team were exceptional. Mattia, the owner, was warm, friendly & welcoming - nothing was too much trouble: from recommending/reserving restaurants to sharing & explaining his love of Venice. He speaks fluent English & French. Vajira saw to the needs of the guests with quiet efficiency. We were made to feel very much at home. I have no reservation in recommendin a stay here. We had rooms overlooking the garden (single & a twin)- they were compact but very quiet. The en-suite facilities were very good. The rooms had everything conveniently to hand (including air conditioning & a safe). We appreciated the ready supply of coffee etc in the downstairs kitchen & the facility to prepare snacks etc. One observation if you are arriving/leaving at Marco Polo airport: ask Mattia for information about the direct Laguna waterbus (12 euros per person + case) from the airport to Fondamente Nuove (a 6 min. walk from 3749PC IIt is much more straightforward than going via Piazzale Roma (bus & boat)

Super little setup ,small number of rooms, quiet, safe, relaxing, handy to vaporetto stop. Rooms look out onto garden or canal at back. Common kitchen area and free internet. Rooms have all the mod cons:mini frig, air con,tv,(no tel).Mattia is the perfect host and loves to tell you of the best places to see the treasures of his beloved Venice. Also suggestions for good, reasonably priced (for Venice) restaurants .Breakfast, inside or out in the garden, is more than sufficient, complete with on the spot cappuccinos. As a single older traveler I felt very comfortable there.

My wife and I ended up in the small room with 2 single beds (which was our own fault by not reading the reservation forms well enough before submitting) but we were dissapointed with the size of the room even from the perspective of single travellers. We've both travelled before as singles with friends which is what our room was intended for, but we both said that even as single travellers, the room was VERY cramped and there was virtually no room to put any large luggage (luckly we had only backpacks). We didn't ever see any of the other rooms, so I cannot judge those. Other people we met at breakfast seemed happy, so I'm sure they were fine! Although, on a brighter note, it was very well kept and the facility was lovely. The garden area was beautiful and very inviting as a nice area to rest after a long day of battling the crowds. The breakfast was the best we had on our entire 2 week trip throughout Italy. Funny tid-bit: The owner seemed annoyed by all of the tourists in the city, which a few of us at breakfast found quite humorous since he runs a B&B ... But we did take his advice to stay out of the tourist areas for eating and ended up trying some of his suggested locations and ended up in some fantastic ristorante's, so I guess that his dislike for tourists actually came in handy for us! Over all it was a fun experiance and I would recommend it for most everyone!

Just stayed at this lovely welcoming place for 5nights (Mar 13 - 18th). There is nothing bad you can so about the place, location and above all staff. Treated like a member of the family. The info offered on places to eat was excellent and all added to our great stay in Venice. Only 5 mins walk to Rialto and 10 to San Marco the location is spot on as you can also walk away from the crowds and enjoy a quieter venice. Many thanks.

The owner/manager was so helpful in offering suggestions for dinner, for connections on the vaporettos, organized transportation to our cruise ship when the vaporettos were on strike. He had a computer with internet access available for us all to use at not cost. His directions for our arrival were very explicit, you couldn't go wrong. Everything at the B&B was top of the line: fridge in room, all his kitchen furnishings, etc. We loved the area. Doe Pollen & Jenny Christoph.

We had a very pleasant stay. The owner and employees were very friendly, everything was clean and neat and the breakfasts were quite good. The fresh fruit was especially welcome. We were able to help ourselves to tea and coffee at anytime and the computer was also available for our use. Matteo spoke English very well and provided us with a list of good restaurants nearby. We were within walking distance of most sights, but the best thing about the location was that it was near a vaporetto stop. So when we didn't feel like walking we could easily jump on a boat. The only drawback was that our room was quite small.

Have always wanted to go to Venice but wanted to stay at a smaller more traditional type place. This property is perfect. Although in a quiet area it has serveral excellent restaurants nearby and is within easy proximity of central Venice. The room we had overlooked the canal and although not large we did not go to Venice to spend all day in it!! so it was great. Breakfast consists of cereal, croissants, yoghurts, tea/coffee/fruit juice and was especially good being served in the garden. My thanks to Mattia who was on hand to answer any queries and very helpful. He also speaks excellent English! If I visit again as I hope to would definately stay here.

Nice place with nice people, but to expensive and our room (no. 1) was just on the groundfloor, only seperated by one thin door from the entrance hall, where almost always somebody sit on the internet and could hear every word you speak in the room. I think, in a room upstaires I would have felt much more comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April 2006. Mattia was a great host, providing restaurant recommendations, offering to make reservations, and helping us navigate the train system. The location suited our needs. We could easily walk to anywhere in the city or to nearby water taxis. It was a quiet part of town. There are some very good restaurants very close to the hotel. One of them was so popular we couldn't get in. The place we went on our first night was the best place we went in Venice (sorry I don't have the name handy).

The location was great, and the directions from the vaporetto stop were perfect and easy to follow. Mattia was very helpful--his restaurant recommendations were spot-on, and he helped us confirm a tour as well. In addition, he and his assistant were there at check-in and check-out to help us with our luggage up and down the one flight of stairs. Breakfast was fine, albeit relatively simple--pastries, fruit, yogurt, juices, and coffee. About the only problem is that there was no phone at all in the room, and the nearest pay phones were a 5-minute walk away.

We had a great stay at 3749 Ponte Chiodo. Mattia would meet with us every morning at breakfast and we would discuss our plans for that day. He gave us a map that had several restaurants listed that were excellent places to eat without the high prices or crowds that we would have run into if we had been in the touristy areas. Our favorite was Antica Adelaide, really great food and house wine, friendly staff with a true local atmosphere. Everything was in walking distance for us, so we didn't take the water buses very often. One day we did go by water bus to Murano (makers of blown glass), Burano (makers of lace), and Torcello (small community that has a 5th century church and a couple of restaurants). We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay at 3749 Ponte Chiodo again.

The room we had was small but clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and keen to help, with plenty of advice for where to eat and what to do. The location is very convenient for getting into the main tourist areas and for the money we were both very pleased with our stay at Ponte Chiodo. Make sure you find out where it is before you get there though as water taxis are V expensive. The nearest water bus stop is Ca D'or on the Grand Canal (take bus number 1 from the station heading down the canal towards Rialto).

I am sorry that it has taken me so long to review the Ponte Chiodo, but I still feel that I should do so - we had a wonderful time during our visit to Venice; as previously stated, Mattia was extremely helpful and his command of english is exceptional. I would recommend the Ponte Chiodo to anyone wanting a quiet break, it is a lovely tranquil hotel.

We chose 3749 Ponte Chiodo after reading the Venere reviews, which gave us an accurate picture of what to expect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The location, on a quiet side street, turned out to be remarkably convenient; the room with a nice view overlooking a side canal was uninspiring, but perfectly fine for our use. The garden would have been lovely if we hadn't encountered cool, rainy weather. But the best aspect of 3749 was the host's warm welcome, and his knowledge of and contagious enthusiasm for his city. He speaks English fluently and has a great sense of humour. His restaurant recommendations were also excellent. So rave reviews for #3749!

The owner is one of the nicest and most accommodating we have encountered. He was very responsive to every need, extremely helpful with advice on restaurants and sights, and just generally welcoming and friendly. He also speaks good English. We lucked out finding this property only a few weeks before our visit to Venice. An easy walk from Fondement Nord (water boat stop from airport)or C' dOro on the Grand Canal. It was awkward with our late arrival as the hotel is not staffed into the evening so we had to call to have the attendant come to the door to let us in. This is only problematic if you don't have a cell phone that works in Italy (problem for US travelers). So I was lucky to snag a local that called for me. Our upstairs room was nice, very clean and tidy, even bordering on being romantic! The manager, Mattia, was on duty the next morning and suggested several restaurants and a walking tour that eventually led us to St. Marks. His services are 'icing on a great cake'. The courtyard is lovely and there are several views of the small canal behind the property. We were forced (knew in advance) to move to the ground floor room, this room is quite small so the upper rooms are more desireable. At the time of our booking this was about a 100 euro a night cheaper that our other choices. I would definately give this hotel a strong 'thumbs up' and would not hesitate to stay there again if we return to Venice.

A haven of tranquility in the midsummer heat and bustle of Venice. Room was spotless and cool, breakfast excellent and B&B exceeded our expectations. Mattia gave good tips for avoiding the "tourist traps" and was very friendly and welcoming, despite being a sleep-deprived new dad. We were looking for a simple, clean place to stay in a quieter area and that is exactly what we found at Ponte Chiodo. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for these qualities in their accommodation.

We had an amazing time in Venice and part of the reason was our accomodation at 3749 Ponte Chiodo. Mattia and his staff were very professional and friendly, always making sure we were happy and had clean rooms. Our room was the most affordable of the lot because our room was the one that has a private bathroom that was not in the room but across the hall. Tres bonne place.

Ponte Chiodo is a very nice B&B with a lot of charm and rest when you are visiting Venice. Mattia is a perfect host and helps with your discovery of Venise !

A lovely place to stay. It was informal with some old Venetian furniture etc., yet important facilities (like the bathroom and beds) were excellent. Our host treated us like trustworthy friends rather than tourists, and the fact that we could use the kitchen area to make drinks etc. made it feel more like home. We didn't use the garden but it looked very inviting.

Had a wonderful stay in october 2005. We really felt us wellcome: owner Mattia is such a true friendly guy, the place is very cosy and everything is actually even more attractive than in the web pictures!!! I would recommend to ask for a room with a canal view, you'll not regret (we had one on the top floor). The location is perfect, cental, nice restaurants etc. in the neighbourhood. The only thing we were missing a bit was a proper breakfast, but I guess what we got (mainly sweet things) is just a very Italian way to do it... Would go back there any time!

My husband and I were looking for a quiet but typical venetian accomodation to take my mother to for her 80th birthday. Mattia could not have been more accomodating and with this being a small b&b hotel it could not have suited our needs better. The other guests were like minded people, in fact we are now in contact with some and they also helped to make our stay more enjoyable (no rowdy, late night folk). This was a perfect location and Mattia even helped us with our dining arrangements. I would recommend Ponte Chiodo to anyone but would not suggest it for children. We would like to return at some stage. Mattia speaks very good English and understands guests needs very well, he even had an internet access point for use at certain points during the day. 10 out of 10.

"Ponte Chiodo" and his friendly owner (and staff) was the best accomodation, we ever found in italy! the rooms in the second floor with canal- view are just a dream (as the wonderful quiet garden).

We loved this place. It is like an oasis from the crowds of venice. The room was great with a great air conditioner that is much needed after a full day sightseeing. The garden is a wonderful spot to read and also enjoy a nice quiet breakfast. But best of all is Mattea - he was such a wonderful host - giving us great advice as to where to eat and how to enjoy venice like a venetian - we would recommend this place to any and all our friends.

Fantastic stay at the property. However, the management should give a set of keys to each of the guests, as the hotel is not manned at night.

We loved our stay at Ponte Chido. Mattia was very helpful and speaks English very well as it seems do most Venetians. The atmosphere was quiet and comforable. The location was out of the heavy tourist areas but within a few minutes walk to the vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal. Lots of resturants a few minutes walk away. We will stay there again whenever we are fortunate enough to return to Italy.

This was the nicest place we stayed on our 2 week trip to Italy. We selected it based on the reviews of previous travelers, and were not disappointed! It deserves it's 5 (excellent) ratings. It is an elegant, clean, well run B&B. The host was helpful, gracious and accommodating. We plan on returning to Venice for our wedding and hope to stay there with family & friends.

A friendly hotel in a romantic location. A great choice for our honeymoon. We had a lovely room with a (canal!) view.

Accommodation was excellent. We were able to use coffee-making/microwave/fridge facilities. The en-suite rooms were spotless, and although the 'sitting' room would be small for everyone if all the rooms were full, there is a peaceful garden where we ate breakfast, met each other (there were 5 of us) and could sit out in evenings. Mattia Baseggio was extremely helpful and there when we needed him and gave us lots of information about Venice - wonderful places to eat - and offered to phone for bookings for us. A first class place to stay. (Note - you can come and go as you wish, but there is no 24 hour reception desk.)

The owner was extremely friendly. The location was absolutely perfect (right on a small canal in the city centre, which meant that the room was a bit smelly, but that was O.K.). The breakfast was also above usual standards for a 'continental' breakfast. To be highly recommended!!

This B&B opened only 5-6 months ago. Everything is new and well kept. The area is very nice, and everything can be reached by foot. The owner, Mattia Baseggio, was very friendly and helpful.

Ponte Chiodo is not the cheapest B&B but it's really worth the money if you appreciate a certain level. The owner Mattia is very friendly and helpful. He speaks several languages. The room really has style and it's spacious and very clean. Breakfast is extraordinary (see italian breakfast standards) and served in a nice garden where you can also relax after hardcore sightseeing. There are some nice restaurants in the area. Ask Mattia for recommendations We would highly recommend the place and also stay there on our next trip to venice. We felt like staying at a good friends place.

Venice is expensive, but 3749 Ponte Chiodo was worth the money. Mattia was quick with a map and suggestions for dining, sight seeing, walking tours. Breakfast was delicious and the room absolutely lovely. We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more.

A very pleasant, small location in a picturesque, quiet area of Venice, very well suited to experience Venice on your own. Clean rooms, breakfast in a small, nice garden, friendly and familiar atmosphere. It offered much more than we expected from "bed and breakfast".
