Hotel Reviews Locanda Daniel

Malaysia, Sep 2008
I stayed here for 4 nights, apart from climbing up 3 flights of stairs (it was not easy with luggage), I don't have complaints. It was very near to train station and walking distance to most attractions. Simple Italian breakfast was served at a nearby cafe (loved the croissants). Though we had a room with sharing bathroom, there was a wash basin in the room which was really convenient.

A simple, budget inn, yet in a convenient location (although a bit difficult to find on foot)and with very helpful and welcoming staff. The only real drawback was that my room was a bit noisy--facing the street with the incessant noise of mopeds day and night, as well as adjacent to the internet terminal and bathrooms--but other than that I could find little to complain about (if you can, try to get a room away from the street, facing the courtyard, with a view of the Duomo instead). Be aware, though, that the reception is not staffed past 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, but if you make arrangements in advance, the staff is very helpful (and made a special trip in at 6:00 p.m. to help myself and some other travellers who arrived late). The place seemed popular with the younger backpacking crowd, but there were some older adults there as well (myself included). If you are looking for a clean, safe budget alternative in an otherwise expensive city, I would certainly recommend Locanda Daniel.

The site presented through Venere.com was confusing and misleading and did not accurately represent what Locanda Daniel really offers.

The apartment is located on a fourth floor, and no elevator is available, so be prepared to carry your luggage all the way up. There is no conditioned air (it was around 30 degrees those days in Florence) and the bathroom would benefit very much of a good cleaning (it had a strong smell, and the shower was somehow uninviting). The "main room" shares space with the kitchen, so no way to make a sandwich while the other are sleeping. Other than that, I found the stay pleasant, with very kind staff, knowledgeable about tourist needs; plus, the aptmnt had a good location in the surroundings of points of interest, and a fine breakfast was included in the price.

Locanda Daniel was much better than I imagined. There are five rooms that share two bathrooms. Not bad. Free internet, a vending machine for late night thirsties and munchies, and a balcony with a great view. However, the bathrooms could use a cleaning just a little more often as when I went to take a shower some rude person left a ton of their hair covering the drain and none of the water would go down so I had to waddle in my own dirty shower water with that persons hair encircling my feet (gross) and that hair was from the day before. This is not a reason not to stay here though. The bathroom was usually available when I wanted to use it and the location is right next to the open market which is great. If you are old with bad knees, consider the six flights of stairs. The flights are short and not that bad unless you have a weak heart. IMPORTANT MUST READ: It took almost an hour to find Locanda Daniel. Why? I google mapped it and thought, "this is so easy, it is right between via fiume and via faenza" because that is what google showed me. However, since their are two addresses assigned to each building, google was giving me the business when Locanda Daniel is going by the residential. I was ping-ponging between the two streets asking every shop keeper "Dove Locanda Daniel?" They had no idea. Anyway, LOCANDA DANIEL is between VIA FAENZA and VIA GUELFA on the SOUTH SIDE. A huge Hotel National sign is on the outside of the same building and it is accross from a gothic store named Transfers. Good Luck.

The staff are only present until 1:30 and it is very inconvenient for those of us who are catching a train. I arrived at almost 2 pm so I didn't get the overview of the place - they just gave us the key of the room. I also had to change rooms so it was very inconvenient since we cant change room until the staff is there for the key to the other room (while we are already ready to explore) and to wait for that room to be available. Overall... the staff was friendly. The facilities didn't over anything. We are not allowed to use the lift so we had to carry our luggages up and down the stairs. It is good for those who just wanted a room to sleep in. There isn't a curvew, either. But it was bad for us since it was raining most of the time in Florence, thus we had to stay in our room. I think there were bugs eating me out. The room was noisy because it is in a high crowded area. You have to wait turn for showers and some are not very clean. Personally... I prefer to stay in a hotel.

This was my third visit to Locanda Daniel and I consider it to be excellent value for money. Don't go if you can't carry your own bags up several flights of stairs. Can't wait to use this accomodation again.

Via Nazionale is probably one of the busiest streets in Florence. The noise of the traffic and sounds made by late sleepers are unbearable at night. LD is on the third floor with no lift. Definitely a bad choice for people with big or heavy luggeage. Free coffee is its only merit. Personally I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

We asked for room no. 5 (room with a view of Duomo). When we arrived room five was NOT available. We produced the email reply as written by the owner promising us the room 5. It was brushed aside with a comment that the room was let out for more money. The hotel is on the 3rd floor with no lift. The bath towels were inadequate to say the least. We were told that as it was raining the usual towels were not available. The bed linen was shabby. Ghul and Carole Hussain

The propery is well suitable for young people coming with their friends. For more mature tourists the noise in the dormitories can be a big problem. The fact that the property has 3 dormitories and around 18 people have to share 2 bathrooms was not clearly stated in the presentation.

You have to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to your room once you find the place. The room which we stayed in acording to another guest was the quietest room and I have never before stayed in such a noisey place so I dread to think what the other rooms were like. The liturature in the place stated that they spoke a number of languages including English but when we were paying the girl spoke only Italian. We booked this as it was bed and breakfast but there was no breakfast!! I will not stay at this place again

It was a nice stay. The hosts were very friendly and provided information (basics by leaflet). The landlady was also very helpful with finding a doctor. You can use an internet PC and they offer a small collection of books and magazines. It was a little bit strange that we had to change rooms during our stay.

It would be nice, if it's mentioned on the web-site, that locanda daniel is situated on the third floor and that it is in the same house as Hotel Nazionale because it's hard to find based on the house numbers (there are zero up to three different numbers on each house and the street is very narrow) But if you have found it, it's a really nice & clean little place with very friendly employees.

It was great, only problem was we were booked for a nice big room with a view of the Duomo, and we only actually got that one night out of two. But on the other hand, the wait was worth it... balcony and everything. Mostly clean, pretty hot (no AC), but overall quite good.

Locanda Daniel is very clean and friendly and in a very good location but it's on the 3rd (european) floor with no elevator so if you have heavy luggage it's very tough when you arrive. If only they would invest in dual pane windows to block the traffic noise (unbearable, I had to sleep with earplugs) and since you can't sleep with closed windows due to the heat I wish they'd get air conditioning too. I think that room 5 (with the view) is less noisy because it's on the other side of the hall but even when I emailed a request for this room ahead of time it wasn't filled. I suggest calling them in advance to schedule your arrival if not during their designated check-in and requesting that room way in advance. It may be a much more pleasant stay then.

A very pleasant stay in a clean and friendly accomodation well suited for budget travellers. The only limitation was not being able to check-in whenever e.g. if wanted to arrive in the evening but the staff seemed happy to fix an appointment for check-in in the afternoon as long as it was not too late.

The Locanda Daniel is a basic hotel at a good price, with friendly staff and is not too far away from the sites. It is kept clean and has many welcoming touches. Although being on the third floor and confusing street numbering makes it hard to find at first.
