Are Krampus festivals in Sud Tirol appropriate for children?

Answer

Are Krampus festivals in Sud Tirol appropriate for children?

Krampus festivals start the holiday season in the Alpine communities of Sud Tirol, and they are suitable for children of all ages, Originating in German folklore, Krampus is a dark bestial servant who accompanies St. Nicholas on his earthly journey. The creature’s purpose is to remind children to be good, so they can receive presents from St. Nick on December 6, rather than fall in to the clutches of the evil spirit for being naughty.

Krampus festivals can last several days. Townspeople dress in Krampus costumes and work their way through the streets scaring children in similar fashion to Halloween. For their efforts, Krampus revelers may be rewarded with gluhwein or schnapps.
