Traveler Stories

Why I love Sicily – East Coast

Being a huge history buff, my chance to walk the picturesque streets of Syracuse was the adventure of a lifetime.

I had always read about how well this city had been preserved, but it was not until I saw it for myself that I was truly in awe. As I traveled along the southern part of Sicily’s east coast, I found that Syracuse had remained largely untouched since ancient Greek times. Breathtaking landmarks like the Duomo edifice can be traced back as far as fifth century B.C.

One of my favorite parts of this trip was enjoying authentic Italian cuisine at charming local eateries like La Foglia. After trying scrumptious dishes such as gato di patate, spaghetti ai ricci and manicotti, I never wanted to leave!

Buses are another common mode of transportation throughout Sicily. AST and SAIS have two of the largest bus networks on the island. Keep in mind that many buses offer reduced services on Sundays.
