Sardinian natives take pride in their culture with festivals and carnivals throughout the year. These celebrations honor life with blooming flowers, fresh fruits and baskets of straight-from-the-oven breads. There are fireworks, culinary wonders and local artwork on display. Travelers are encouraged to attend, and tourists can even take part in the festive camaraderie and cultural events.

Where is Sardinia? At the heart of the Mediterranean sea, Sardinia is the second largest island off the coast of Italy. A narrow strip of ocean separates Sardinia from Corsica.
The sweetest dreams I ever had were in Sardinia after being lulled to sleep by the sound of ocean waves.
Spending time in Sardinia was like being transported to a worry-free paradise. With no hassles or stress, it was a very relaxing trip. Compared to the hustle and bustle of city life, the lights and colors were a burst of freshness. When I ventured into the town, the locals were very helpful and friendly. Their stories lit up my life better than the moonlight that shone clear on the crystalline ocean.
Did I mention how fantastic the food was? It was amazing! There are many quaint little restaurants with skilled chefs and courteous hosts. I have never gained those few vacation pounds so willingly. I cannot wait to journey back to this land of beauty and culture.
While Sardinia is considered a part of the Emerald Coast, there are very few tourists who get around to crowding the island during peak Italian seasons.
The island is large enough to accommodate masses of travelers, but there are only a few hundred foreigners there at one time. With so many activities to do and things to see, you can choose to be isolated from fellow travelers by simply walking in the other direction or choosing a new activity.
If you are still unconvinced, consider traveling during the spring months. The weather is cooler that time of year, and most vacationers are still working. Sardinia’s trees are especially lovely in the spring, which is something that most tourists sadly never see.
Fun Fact: There are archeological sites across Sardinia where visitors can wrap their minds around an archaic culture with ancient artifacts from the 15th to 16th centuries B.C. Tours run regularly at these historic and culturally significant sites.
Local Dishes: Famous for serving up wholesome meals to satisfy picky palettes, Sardinia’s signature dishes are Pane Carasau, Malloreddus and Culurgiones.
Famous Locals: 1938 actress Mavie Bardanzellu was a Sardinian native, along with American actor Christopher Meloni and famed historian Pasquale Chessa.
Yes! There are several parks, but the National Park of Asinara is one of the most family friendly and beautiful. There are colonies of wild white donkeys, parrots and other gorgeous animals living untamed within the greenery. There are also roaming horses that were born and raised on the island. The animals are used to visitors trekking through their environment, so don’t be afraid to take pictures.
Youngsters will especially love the abundance of park activities. There is sailing, guided scuba diving, horseback riding, bicycling and hiking. Thousands of Mother Nature’s wonders are growing wildly on either side of designated pathways, and guides are posted every few miles to give much-needed direction or information about the park. The family bonding time is worth the trip!
