Traveler Stories

Why I love Porto Cesareo

Bring the family and plenty of sunscreen to enjoy brilliant, shallow waters and gorgeous beaches.

I was a little nervous about youngsters near the water, but the shallow sea bed of Porto Cesareo set my mind at rest. With 17 kilometers of beaches, it was tough to decide on the best one. Luckily, we found that we could explore daily, choosing a resting point on a whim and spending hours wiggling our toes in golden sands, refreshing them in the turquoise waters.

I was a little more hesitant about a boat outing with the children, but we found a patient guide who provided us with a fun fishing expedition. The kids weren’t wild about eating the fish, but they were thrilled with the lively nature of the catch.

Can I bring my entire family to enjoy experiences at Porto Cesareo?

Answer

Can I bring my entire family to enjoy experiences at Porto Cesareo?

Traveling with children can be a challenge, especially in unfamiliar territory. However, a sense of importance is communicated as leaders promote education of young visitors so that the value of local natural resources is conveyed. Sites like the Pietro Parenzan Museum of Marine Biology are used to introduce families to the value of the resources in the area, and instruction is provided to emphasize the importance of respect.

Beaches are shallow, providing families with a safe environment for fun in the water. Many of the lidos and spots are ideal for family enjoyment. Hotel locations on the beach are perfect for facilitating enjoyment while allowing youngsters to return to the facilities to get out of the sun and rest.

Travel Tips

Things worth remembering in Porto Cesareo

Fun Fact: Winds can change the appearance of the sea. Southern winds, referred to by locals as sirocco, can promote algae growth in the region’s waters, but the northern tramontana winds leave behind a glasslike sea.

Local Dishes: Seafood is a highlight on local menus, especially dishes like grilled calamari and Spaghetti alle Vongole, a spaghetti dish with clams cooked in white wine.

Local Day Trips: Isolia dei Conigli, Rabbit Island, can be reached on foot or by boat. Water levels are slightly higher than a meter, making the short trek perfect for the more adventuresome. However, shuttle service to the island is easily available from fishermen.

Are there dining choices other than seafood in Porto Cesareo restaurants?

Answer

Are there dining choices other than seafood in Porto Cesareo restaurants?

While seafood is a common theme in local dining establishments, there are many alternatives for those who need a bit of variety during their stays. Bed and breakfasts are excellent for simple meals. Pizzerias provide both seafood and non-seafood choices. Gelaterias offer wonderful dessert selections, and portions at some spots may be sufficient to count as full meals.

A vacation rental may provide an option for the traveler with plans for a longer stay in Porto Cesareo. This is excellent because kitchen and dining facilities are included in the accommodations. This allows the opportunity to prepare some meals while enjoying local restaurants as well. Additionally, storage for picnic fare to take to the beach is easy.
