About Alta Valtellina

The Alta Valtellina is a vast and modern ski area in northern Lombardy, close to the Swiss border. The biggest and most popular resort in Alta Valtellina is Livigno with 115 km (71 mi) of slopes and 30 modern lifts. This area is a great choice for families with kids and beginners.

Useful Ski Info: For expert skiers, the Bormio resort is true paradise with 26 km (16 mi) of black slopes.

Alta Valtellina also offers snowboarding and cross-country skiing, as well as summer ski options on some designated areas of the Stelvio Mountain Pass which remain white all year round.

Lifts & Slopes in Alta Valtellina: 225 km (139 mi) of slopes spread over 4 different ski areas:

  • Livigno: 30 lifts and 115 km (71 mi) of slopes.
  • Bormio: 16 lifts and 50 km (31 mi) of slopes.
  • Santa Caterina Valfurva: 10 lifts and 35 km (21 mi) of slopes.
  • San Colombano/Valdidentro: 10 lifts and 25 km (15 mi) of slopes.

Ski pass Info:

  • Alta Valtellina ski pass: gives you access to the ski areas of Livigno, Bormio, Cima Piazzi Happy Mountain, Oga/S. Colombano and S. Caterina Valfurva.
  • Bormio e Valli ski pass: gives you access to all the areas mentioned above except Livigno.
  • Regional ski pass: to ski in the entire Lombardy ski area with different combinations available.

In the summer months, children can enjoy a wide range of activities in Alta Valtellina, including mountain biking, rock climbing and donkey treks through the foothills and Stelvio National Park. They can also visit a dairy and see how cheese is made. Larix Park in Livigno has pulleys, swing rings and climbing structures. Several resorts have waterslides, swimming pools and thermal spas.

After the snow falls, children can sledge with huskies and ride the historic little red train through mountain passes. Young visitors can try out indoor and outdoor ice-skating along with Nordic and Alpine skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Supervised ski and snowboard schools are available for visitors of all ages.

Head to Livigno! The lively atmosphere in Livigno attracts numerous snowboarders who enjoy the half-pipe, jumps and boardercross courses as well as more than 700 kilometers of on piste runs. The resort has a three-star rating.

In addition to piste runs, snowboarders can enjoy the snow park in Bormio. Located on a side slope of Stella Alpina, the park is accessible by a three-seat chair lift. The 500 meter-long park has a 150 meter vertical drop. Snowboarders and free-style skiers can enjoy kickers, rail lines and fun box of various levels of difficulty as well as a kid’s up-and-down, mini rainbow and wall bank. Santa Caterina offers pistes of varying degrees of difficulty.
