About Hotel Villa Toscane, Swiss Quality Hotels

hotel outside Hotel Hotel Villa Toscane hotel outside This art nouveau villa was built at the turn of the century and completely renovated in the same style in 1989. The Hotel Villa Toscane enjoys an ideal location in Montreux, close to the conference center and the Stravinski auditorium.

Montreux is called The Pearl of the Swiss Riviera for its beautiful location on the north-east shore of Lake Geneva in the Canton of Vaud in the south-western part of Switzerland. Enhanced by a superb background of the majestic Alpine scenery the town of 20,000 inhabitants has charmed famous people like Jean-Jaques Rousseau, Lord Byron or Victor Hugo.

Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate the spa town of Montreux is regarded as one of the noblest resorts in Switzerland. Besides the historic architecture, the picturesque lanes, historical sights and exclusive shopping facilities Montreux's attractiveness has grown by its numerous international festivals such as the famous Montreux Jazz Festival, the Comedy Felim Festival and the Classical Music Festival, which follow each other throughout the year.

LA salle de bain est trop petite et mal équipé. Cet hotel ne mérite pas la catégorie 4 étoiles. L'équipement de la chambre est vieux et insuffisant. Je ne recommanderai pas cet hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Villa Toscane very much. The reception staff at the Royal Plaza were very helpful and spoke English very well. The swimming and hot tub facilities were very nice as well. The rooms were exteremely clean and comfortable, although a little warm on very hot days. The spa and facilities at the Royal Plaza hotel (to which all guests at Villa Toscana have free access) were luxurious, and we really enjoyed our nightly swims and steam. All in all, a highlite of our vacation!!

We had booked a quad room but ended up getting an apartment suite around the corner from the hotel. The suite was large, well decorated and clean. Parking was an issue an may be for other hotels in the area as well. We were more or less on our own to find parking which was expensive. We stayed 3 nights and the cleaning staff did not make up our room during that period as promised. It was not really an issue for us due to the short stay and we did not bother to remind the front desk.

Obviously, Montreux is a very expensive place to visit. We knew this beforehand, and so we tried to pick a nice hotel for a lower price. We liked the Villa Toscane, but there were a few problems. To begin with, it was labeled as a 4 star hotel, but really only had 3 star amenities. Also, you have to check in across the street at its sister 5 star hotel. This hotel across the street was amazingly beautiful (and probably very expensive). However, it was very obnoxious to have to leave the hotel, walk across the street, and go to the reception desk of this 5 star hotel EVERY time we needed something. There was absolutely NO ONE in the Villa Toscane, despite the fact that they had a reception desk with a bell! (Some poor Italian women that arrived after us rang the bell for a good 10 mins with no response before I told them they had to go across the street). There were nice little waiting/breakfast rooms in the hotel, but they were never used as there was no one to serve anyone meals. If you want to eat breakfast (we didn't) with the hotel, you have to go to the 5 star hotel across the street and pay the 5 star prices. Finally, the room itself was on the smaller side compared to other hotels we'd been staying in during our trip, and this hotel was supposed to be the nicest. Also, we were there during the EUFA 2008 and we could hear our neighbors celebrating through the walls (which mean they are thinner than expected). On the plus side, the room was clean and the bathroom was very nice. Montreux is a beautiful little town, and we enjoyed our overall time there. The Villa Toscane is a little too pricey for the amenities provided for us, and should be downgraded to a 3 star hotel.

Lovely spacious room. Beautiful old building. Really enjoyed our stay. Would have liked to have had breakfast included in rate.

The hotel was very welcoming. The room was of good size for two people, comfortable with enough storage space, and a good bathroom. It had a mini bar which we didn't use, and a flat screen good size tv. Our room faced the street, but we were not bothered by noise. The lady who is supervisor of housekeeping and decoration (more like public relations) stopped by our table twice to chat with us. She was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel gave us two cards to travel free on the bus that stops across the street from the hotel. The bus runs to Chateau Chillon and also to Vevey. This was one of our best hotel stays during our trip to Paris and Switzerland--we stayed at 5 hotels.

For a 4-star property in a larger, very-chic town, we got what we thought was a decent room rate. However, our room had to have been about the smallest room one the hotel had to offer. Only 2 blemishes on otherwise fine service. Blemish 1: Breakfast room and staff inadequate for morning breakfast rush, during what we would consider shoulder season (not high season). People waited for coffee, waited for a table to free up. Blemish 2: Asking for nice eatery recommendation, we got referral (plus 10% off coupon) to a restaurant on the waterfront. Felt pawned off on the emptiest, group-tour-style, blech restaurant in all of Montreux. So. Not a bad stay, but we would not be quick to favor this hotel again with a visit.

Villa Toscane was very well located within Montreaux. We were only there for one night but would definately consider using the hotel again should we revisit. Montreaux itself is a must on any itinerary

I was lucky enough to get a superb room with a large balcony on the top floor.Represents good value for what you pay

The staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was good and breakfast room clean, bright and airy. Room was up on the top floor, hence small and a walk up flight of stairs from lift, with suitcases, quite difficult. Room was not actually 4* quality I would have expected from price and being in Montreux. Business.

Generally speaking, I liked the hotel and its facilities. It has an excellent location. It is also a good value for money. The only weak point I can indicate is that it was really noisy. The hotel is on the main road in Montreux and because of that it is unbearable to sleep well at night time and you are woken up by car noise very early in the morning. On the other hand I understand that you cannot have central location and quietness at the same time:-)

The Villa Toscane certainly met our needs for a pleasant weekend in Montreux, and the mobility card they provide for free local trolley bus service to Vevey and discounts on the funicular was very useful. We had a second floor front room with a nice terrace and a partial view overlooking the lake (the hotel is across the main street from the lake shore and walking path, so one had to look past the dumpster of the competing hotel on the other side of the street). Given the Villa's essential physical attractiveness, turn of the 20th century architectural style, room size and ceiling height, the quality of the furnishings in the rooms comes as a disappointment. But all in all, Villa Toscane is a winner.

Lovely old building, few complaints. Shame they broke up the grand old rooms into such small units. Good location, easy walk from railway station if you haven't got a lot of luggage. Not cheap, but that's Switzerland!
