Great location right on the grand canal near Piazza de San Marco. Service was a little slow checking in and out but the concierge was very helpful. They have a water taxi that goes directly to Murano Island which was a nice service. The room was nice and clean but a little cramped.

Holiday, 3 nights Venice, arrived by Orient Express at Santa Lucia. Hotel provided a very expensive launch (160 Euros) which took a back route instead of coming up the Grand Canal which was disappointing. Superior room with balcony on 4th floor to side of hotel. Nicely presented, spacious and clean. Good bathroom. Nice terrace restaurant. Hotel is very close to San Marco square - excellent location. Returned to Santa Lucia by Vaporetto down the Grand Canal as the San Marco Vaporetto stop lines 1 and 82 is right by the hotel terrace. Crowded but much better value (12 euros for 2!)

Location location location. I love this property and can not say enough good things about it. This is was my third visit and I was given the most spectacular room, a Canal view room with a king bed.I went back down to the desk to ensure they had not made a mistake as I had paid far to little for such an upgrade.Rooms are generally small ( normal by Venice standards) but precious. Decorated in traditional Venetian style. Tasteful and spotless. Large marble bathrooms with tubs. Anyone with design sense will love the mix of old and new architectural details. Staff help full and attentive. Location: It doesn't get much better than this, deliciously effected.

The hotel is just opposite the Harry's Bar and is since the enlargement a very elegant place to stay. The room to the Canale Grande a very little but OK - you are in Venice and can not compare the price with other hotels with the same standard - you pay the PERFECT location!

People at reception were not friendly at all. Room was not very quite, not because of outside noise, but noise made by other guests in rooms close to mine. Price of Euro 200 per night was not fair. I made a reservation for six nights including one weekend, and while at the hotel I entered the page of venere and rate for that same night was Euro 170. This is not fair for venere costumers.

The maid kept mrearringing the room for two people although I was alone! Irritating. The climate control in the bedroom was broken and could only be adjusted from the reception area. Neither of these was satisfactory in a hotel of this quality!

The only thing that annoyed me - and it annoyed me a lot - was that my room, otherwise wonderful, had no accoustic separation from the hallway. From outside on the street side, it was perfect, but from the inside... My room (314) was opposite a service store (towels, sheets, etc) and the staff were very noisey when they met there. The problem could be simply solved by replacing the bedroom door with a door that didn't have a gap at the bottom ( between the door and the floor).

We were very pleased with the Monaco. The price was high, but in line with other 4 stars in Venice. The concierge services were excellent and informative. The rooms (although no view) were exceptionally quiet, comfortable and clean. We paid for a taxi from the car park (not prearranged, $100 euro, VERY expensive), but on the way out of the city, the concierge called a taxi for us, $65 euro and a much nicer boat. The location was impeccable, on the grand canal, next to a gondola and bus service and a 30 second walk to St Marks. We would stay here again. Venice, even with all of the tourists, is still my favorite Italian city after 4 visits.

The staff at this top quality hotel were friendly, helpful and efficient. A nice touch was the complimentary bottle of bubbly sent to the room, having noticed that one of our party was celebrating his 60th birthday that day. My only slight critiscm would be in regard to the complimentary newspapers available in the lobby, a British national daily paper would have been appreciated in addition to the American, German and Italian papers. Overall a very enjoyable stay, We would reccomend this hotel for service, quality and location. Paul Watson

The hotel Monaco and Grand Canal is everything one expects from a four-star hotel. The service is of high quality, non-intrusive and sensitive of a guest's needs. For the prices quoted, a real bargain, especially for its proximity to boat, gondola and taxi stations (all a stone's trhow away), not to mention its being practically next to the Piazza San Marco.

Monaco & Grand Canal was a wonderful hotel in a perfect location. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The room was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. The restaurant was beautiful, right on the bustling Grand Canal. Sitting at a table watching the gondoliers get ready for the day was a real treat. Be aware that coffee, tea, and breakfast rolls are considered the continental breakfast but you have to pay for anything additional. Overall, a great hotel at a reasonable price. If I have the opportunity to return to Venice I would stay at this hotel again!!!

ROTTEN ROTTEN ROTTEN. That is how we felt after our stay at the Hotel Monaco Grand Canal. The truth is, the hotel staff was adequately courteous, but the restaurante staff is so rude and obnoxious, that if you plan on going outside to the terrace for dinner or drinks, please wear very thick skin. WHERE DO THEY GET THESE RIDICULOUS WAITERS FROM?? I'll tell you...the restaurant manager. He cares ZERO about hotel guests. His only concern is to move people thru the restaurant and keep them moving. And he employs waiters with the same attitude. After complaining TWICE about TWO separate incidents (one where a waiter yelled at my wife), and requesting to the hotel concierge to speak to the restaurant manager TWICE, he never called me or left me a message. We had booked 4 nights and we stayed two nights, then left and booked a room at the Bauer Palazio for the final two nights. Low and behold, courteous staff at the Bauer's canal restaurant. What a concept! In addition, the room value at the Bauer was far far better than at the Monaco. We had Room 746 at the Bauer for E319 per night (a Monday and Tuesday), which was a top suite with a large patio. At the Monaco, we had a room which bareley fit the bed and two small windows for E260 per night. At the Bauer Palazio, it seems they upgrade you automatically if they have the space.

I have stayed in this Hotel many times in the past. This year was the first time since it has been renovated. It is in an ideal location with a lovely terrace overlooking the Grand Canal where you can have breakfast, dine or just relax with a drink in the afternoon and watch Venice go by!

There are good and bad about staying at the Monaco. Rooms are small! We even had a deluxe room and though it was obviously bigger and not uncomfortably small, we still had 2 twin beds pushed together rather then the King we had requested. We had no view, unless you call the wall outside the window a view. The concierge at first seemed a little unfriendly, when we approached him with a question he actually questioned us if we were guests, he however seemed satisfied when he found out our room number was not the least expensive in the hotel. Once everyone realized we were guests the service became remarkably better. The great part of the hotel is that it is in an absolutely fabulous location, the hotel itself is beautiful and right on the Grand Canal and close to San Marco which is where everything is located. The bar is great with a terrific staff and lots of people. Another great ammenity is the concierge had a private boat take us to Murano Island for a private tour of one of the glass companies. However, don't be fooled, your private guide is a salesperson and if you truly do not plan on spending any money you may feel very uncomfortable. We were shopping for Art Glass however, so we had an enjoyable afternoon bargaining with them and working out a couple of deals. We would stay here again, if you are looking for a 4 star hotel in Venezia that will be easy to get to from the station or airport then stay here and don't worry about the room or upgrade a couple not just one level and ask about a view. Whatever you do, do not get a hotel that does not have it's own private dock, as nothing seemed more miserable than hauling luggage around the city looking for a number that isn't there, it is a waste of time and who wants to wander the streets with luggage when it is much more fun to get lost without all the extra baggage. If you are looking to get masks there is a lovely mask shop over the Rialto bridge on the left before the Florida Cafe that had great handmade masks

Our trip to Venice was for myself, my wife, our daughter (19) and son (17). Before booking I read several reviews about the Monaco, which seemed mixed, so it was hard to be sure what lay ahead - "one man's meat is another man's poison"! But I have to say that we had a great time in Venice, and couldn't fault the hotel. The staff were knowledgeable (reception, concierge and restaurant) - we found them all very friendly and helpful, whilst still maintaining an air of class that you'd expect in a hotel of this price. Maybe some guests who left negative comments can't reconcile the two? For us the balance was just right. Not knowing the hotel before the renovation, I didn't miss the old set-up, and found the rooms (deluxe) very comfortable, and the public areas had a good blend of modern and traditional. The location is great, and to eat and drink on the terrace by the canal is to die for! It's not cheap, but if you can accept that part of the joy of Venice is to roll over and enjoy people taking your money, I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who likes understated style. Finally, we went with the intention of taking the waterbus from the airport - guidebooks recommend it for value. But if you're spending this much on the hotel, I recommend the water taxi. You don't queue (the bus is packed after the plane comes in), and you get dropped off at the private jetty. One of our best moments was taking lunch on the terrace with a bottle of wine on the last day, then being whisked away by water taxi to the airport - just like in an old film! Enjoy....

This hotel is beautifully decorated. It's located in the heart of San Marco and literally a step away from a watertaxi stop. We booked a 'superior' room, it was a nice room but we were disappointed that it didn't have a canal view for the pricey rate we paid. Plus we asked for a double bed and got two singles instead. So when checking in you need to specify with reception.

We came with 4 college students therefore were not taken as seriously as some, but the entire stay was wonderful. The people at the desk spoke great English and were always willing to help. The rooms are fabulous, with heated bathroom floors and great showers...important for the tired traveler. We were sooo close to San Marco square, not on it, but around the corner. Make sure you ask whats on the complimentary breakfast, because many things are not which end up being costly... Overall the rooms were fantastic- it seems they were recently redone but still maintain an old feel with original wooden beams running through our ceiling. Highly recommended!!

This hotel was outstanding. The location could not have been better. I alighted from the vaporetto after travelling from the train station to find that the Monarco and Grand Canal was merely a few steps away, with all my luggage I am glad I did not have to walk through crowded winding streets. The close proximity to the piazza was a major plus. I reserved a single room, yet was given a double, and charged nothing extra. The room was huge and very well appointed. The bathroom was very luxurious also. Added touches such as turning down the bed at night and the option of breakfast delivered to the room at no charge made the experience all the more special. The staff were all fluent in English, very polite and helpful. I had nothing but the most postive experience at this hotel and would highly recommended it. I would not think if staying anywhere else in Venice.

I was to travel to Venezia for the very first time and overall I have missed a good orientation map of the city at webpages available. At least the basic orientation where the airport is and where the main orientation points of the city (boats main terminal, San Marco public boats station etc.). Monaco&Grand Canal hotel was exciting mainly by its glass-roofed lobby and interior design. Services I considered professionally personal. Very gladly will come back again, thank you.

Perfect location. Excellent room. Very nice people. But everything hugely expensive. Fee breakfast is a joke as it only include one warm drink and some bread, everything else is extra (expensive). Even internet acces is payable. Unacceptable for this category of hotel. Avoid rooms on alley opposite to entrance (for example N° 130). This alley is used for deliveries into city center and noise of troleys and boat start at 5am. Forget the view, go for a back room. Thank you to hotel for changing our room on simple demand.

The location of the Monaco is fabulous - next to San Marco Square, Vaporetto dock is almost in front of hotel, gondola rides in front, Harry's Bar across from the entrance, fabulous shopping steps away and a terrace for dining/drinks over the Grand Canal with amazing views. We took the public Vaporetto(#1 or #82) - we took the slower boat, #1, which was great because it allowed us time to take in the sites and get oriented. We did have large suitcases, but it worked fine. We had thought about using a water taxi (about 40 Euro vs 5 Euro for Vaporetto) because of the amount of luggage but glad we didn't. Get off at the San Marco/Vallaresso stop. The hotel staff was very helpful and even booked us tickets for the Last Supper for our time in Milan. A coffee/tea and brioche breakfast was included. The room was nice but small. The bed needed replacing, but the location made everything fine. The price for the location was a good value for Venice. Would not take the trip to Murano because the hotel says they have a "free" boat there but it turns out that it obligates you to a 40 minute glass factory tour and it took 45 minutes and some arguing to get them to find us a ride back to the hotel.

I originally planned on staying just one day but changed my mind and stayed an extra day. The staff were kind enough to let me stay in the same room and even though I had been upgraded from a single room to a double I was charged at the rate that I had originally booked which was fantastic. A lovely hotel, but three criticisms. 1.Despite closed windows and activated air conditioning there was an aroma of cooking in our room at all times. 2.The attitude of some staff at reception sometimes laft you feeling that you had been a nuisance. 3.We were surprised that every item beyond the basic breakfast provided, cost extra. Not something we have experienced in other hotels of this quality when travelling around Europe.

The hotel was as specified on the web but as with everything in Venice was overpriced. For the first 2 nights we were unable to book a meal in the hotel restaurant, the bedroom door was left open by staff on 4 occasions and there was no tea/coffee facilities in the room. The terrace for breakfast and dinner(when you could book) was fantastic as was the location. Restaurant was very disorganised on 2 occasions at breakfast and we had to chase for tea/coffee etc, attitude of some waiters was not what you would expect having paid the price we did. Overall the hotel was not a patch on many other great hotels throughout the world in terms of service, but it gets by on its location.

Fortunately I checked out where the hotel was before I booked it as the attached location map was wrong. However, I found that it was even more ideally located right on the Grand Canal. (Hence the name I guess!) Anyway, having breakfast on the terrace looking over the canal was a real treat. I loved watching the venetian world go by while I stuffed myself with fresh croissants, muffins and decent coffee. For the late risers - they serve breakfast in the rooms at no extra charge. Good hotels and restaurants are not cheap in Venice and this one is no exception. But if you want to be right in the middle of everything and doing it in style the Monaco can't be faulted.

The Monaco and Grand Canal was a wonderful surprise on our tour of Italy. We could not believe that it was so convenient and close to the water taxi stop for San Marco (maybe 100 ft.and just across the lane from Harry's Bar). The hotel must have been recently renovated since the lobby was done in an elegant modern motif. The rooms were quiet, spacious and elegantly appointed. We were amazed that such a truly excellent hotel was such an economical value in a high priced market and wished we could have extended our stay several more days.

We had a most enjoyable stay at this top class hotel in an excellent location. The standard of service lived up to the four stars - and beyond. For convenience, we dined in the hotel on the first and last evenings and would have liked to have done so every day. However, it was too expensive to do so and, like many other guests who have submitted reviews to this and other websites, we sought cheaper alternatives in the city. We would recommend that the management seriously consider offering residents a reasonably priced menu so that they can enjoy the high quality of service and food alongside those non-residents who dine there on special occasions. The supplementary charges for additions to the coffee and rolls at breakfast were too high - even a small fresh orange juice was very expensive. This otherwise excellent hotel may be avoided by some who visit your website because of the high prices in the restaurant. We look forward to returning and will recommend it highly to others - but hope the managment will take these comments into account for the benefit of future guests.

Dissappointed that the restaurant was closed and could not sit looking out over the canal. We were not informed of this.

Sorry to tell: we were very very disappointed. The stuff at den reception gave us a standard- room, not a sup.-double as we booked. The man at the reception told us, there is no other room available ( we asked for a junior suite, because we didnt want to stay in our standard-room); he cheated us cause he "sold" us the stand.-room for a sup.-doubleroom.

Everything was perfect, from the service provided, to the actual location of the hotel. The room was beautifully decorated, although not the most spacious there is. We really enjoyed every aspect of our stay and will most likely come back to this hotel next time we're in Venice.

The room was as we expected, well equipped, very clean and very comfortable. Service form housekeeping and front desk was outstanding - they could not have been more helpful. We did not know in advance that the canal side restaurant was being renovated but we were well looked after upstairs. We would definitely choose this hotel for preference in Venice

We spent 3 days/night in this hotel, it was great. We arrive from paris late (1 o'clock at night) and they were waiting for us. Very good service, polite and disponible. This hotel is very close from plaza san marco, and the boat for airport is only 50 meters from there. We recommend it really.

Hotel was under renovation - not mentioned on venere. Having said that, our room rates were heavily discounted so I guess there had to be a reason. I would definitely stay again (although not sure if I could afford to at full rate!) - great location-3 minutes walk from the water bus stop, and from St Mark's Square; friendly staff; pleasant rooms; lovely and very chilled out communal areas.

Hotel has a great location, behind St. Marco Square, near designer shops but on a quiet street. It’s on the canal with a boat stop right outside. It has an impressive reception area, gives a feeling of a boutique hotel. The lounge become restaurant, breakfast area is grand with a high ceiling in Venetian style. The bar is small and chilled out with a simple design. The staff are professional but not that welcoming. We found a continental breakfast which was included in the price very disappointing. For 2 people they served a small basket filled with a few pieces of bread, muffins and croissants. One morning they’ve even run out of croissants. An orange juice wasn’t included; we had to pay for it separately 4.20 E for a small glass but only found out about it when settling our bill. Also, the waiters were very arrogant and made it clear that they didn’t like to be asked for anything extra to do. Not something you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.

We highly recommend a stay at the Monaco and Grand Canal Hotel. It is so close to St. Marks Square, Harrys Bar is 30 seconds away. The bar and restuarant are excellent and the staff very attentive. Our room was at the rear of the hotel as the front which is on the Grand canal is currently under renovation but this did not spoil our stay Well worth a visit Dean and wendy Richardson

We stayed for 4 nights in January 2004. I found the rooms very clean and beautifully presented, though quite small. The hotel itself was a former theatre so the breakfast area is in a large ornate room with a high ceiling and intricate plasterwork. The breakfast itself is basic coffee and croissants though there is an additional menu. For example a small glass of orange juice costs €4.00 and ham and eggs about €7.00. Overall very good but expensive especially in the bar. The location is excellent being right next to San Marco, the water buses and taxis and Harrys Bar.

The hotel was under major refurbishment which was not indicated on the web site. Luckily this did not impact our stay too much but did mean that many areas of the hotel had been moved around and there was not access to the areas described on the website, such as the restaurant overlooking the canal. The room though clean and comfortable was not furnished as described.
