Still the best hotel in Bologna!

Next time, maybe, even if I don't book a Deluxe or a Junior Suite, but an Excelsior or a normal room, I'd like to find some tooth-brush and a bathrobe. Anyway, it's just an advice ;)

One of the best hotels I have stayed in! New (which is foreign in Italy)clean and extremely friendly staff (something not overly seen in Italy as a whole). I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The best experience and doubtful it can be matched in any other city.

Hotel location great, just one minutes walk to the train station

Would recomend this hotel to anyone looking for a city break in Bologna with easy access to rail connections to many other cities in Italy. Friendly, helpful staff with added bonus of kettle in room.

This is a great hotel and a great value for the price. The worst thing I can say is the rather high price to use the wireless internet in your room (~11 EUR/day). You can use the internet for free in the lobby, but then you have to be down in the lobby and it is slower than the internet connection you pay for. Other than the internet issue, the is a great hotel and one I would absolutely stay at again. Bologna is a huge Italian city and having this hotel be literally right in front of the train station is as good a location as any in the city for convenience. It makes it really great to use Bologna as a hub for day-trips given that Bologna train station has lots of trains departing for just about everywhere. And when you are coming back from a day-trip at 9pm or 10pm it is great to just have to take a few steps from the train station and be walking through the front door of the hotel. You would think noise would be a concern, but the hotel has been well built to block out the outside noise and noise between rooms.

Enjoyed our 5 night stay. The hotel is directly across from the train station which made our travels to Ravenna, Ferrara, Parma and Modena quite easy. Being near the train station also means there are vagrants and undesireables around...but they caussed no problems. Only complaint was breakfast. Once items were depleted, they were not replenished, even when requested. I expect more from a 4 star property. The attitude in the breakfast room was the least welcoming... not the best way to start the day.

Very nice hotel and close enough to city center to walk. Very modern hotel, good breakfast was included and have no complaints.

I chose the hotel for the location, in front of the train station, but it's also a couple of minutes far from the downtown (by walking). My room was clean and very spacious (the bathroom, too), the bed comfortable (pillow included). The staff is kind. If I should mention a defect I'd say that, since I eat healthy, the breakfast didn't match this necessity of mine, but I always have this problem when I travel (but the food is good and you have a good offer). I definitely recommend the hotel.

If i knew that in Rome there is the same hotel i would have made a reservation in this hotel.

Every thing is fine. It is very convenient place, just in front of the train station. the room is very spacious and breakfast is good.

The hotel is near the railway station, but at 1 km from the Arena. Anyway the service has been perfect and the hotel deserves even 5 stars.

It's very good Hotel !!

This was the most modern hotel we stayed at in Italy--the rooms were large and the bathroom very nice. The hotel cateres to business people so we were the minority, but we found Bologna to be not touristy at all. The staff was polite and helpful, but not everyone spoke English as we found in other cities. The hotel was across the street from the train station which was very convenient for us as we departed by train to our next destination, and did not have to take a cab. It was about 15 min walk to the main square and the staff recommended several restuarants to us. Breakfast was good, especially the croissants, which I found to be wonderful wherever we went!

We absolutely loved our stay here and recommend this hotel to everyone! Great service, great location, great rooms, great rates. We will come back next time! Thank you! That's what we call a great hotel!

Although we stayed only one night at this hotel and did a half day`s city sightseeing, the hotel staffs and the people in the city who we met with,were all helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast at this hotel.

The hotel is nice and the rate is reasonable. It is ideal for those who wish to travel by train because the hotel is located just in the opposite side of Bologna station. However, the surrounding area is not convenient for shopping or eating because the place is a little bit far from the downtown (about 20 minutes walk to the center of the city).

Our first stay at Starhotels Excelsior was wonderful. The price was right and the room was spacious, very clean and modern. Even though the train station was just across the road, the hotel was very quiet and very safe. City center of Bologna was a short walk away. There were many restaurants and cafes near the hotel. Staff were very polite and helpful and spoke excellent English.

I spent one night here and got a great nights sleep here ,,the sound proofing is excellent,,staff very helpful and friendly.The only disappointing part was the breakfast,,compared with other hotels of a similar standard that i stayed in ,,it was below par in terms of variety of foods and freshness,,no toasting facilities,,it just seemed all rather stale to me ,,breakfast is supposed to set you up for the day ,,this one didnt!!Over all though i was very pleased with this hotel.

Rooms too hot and impossible to open the windows at night because of the outside noise.

The location is perfect just in fron of the train station (also a bus stop to the airport). It's a modern, clean and spacious four-star hotel. You never get disppointed. It's a bit of walking to the center though it's enjoyable walking after you eat a lot of delicious food Bolognese.

Excellent hotel, the most comfortable bed I ever sleapt in.

Not shampoo and only soap in the bath. They didn't arrange the lackness. Not bath towels on my arrival: and they arrived only after a second call and after more than one hour.

Situated across the road from the railway station but no noise. A few yards from the main shopping centre and a short stroll to the historic centre. Top marks for location, price and quality of hotel. We are staying here when we next come to Bologna. Great city by the way!

A Pleasant Stay, indeed A working trip to Italy with a business colleague. We covered three cities, Milan, Florence and Bologna in 4 days. Stayed at Starhotels in both Milan and Bologna. In Milan Starhotels Anderson and in Bologna Starhotels Excelsior. Both of them were really nice properties. Starhotels Excelsior is located just in front of Bologna Railway station = location that is more central would be difficult to find. Spacious, well-furnished rooms are of excellent quality, prices quite reasonable and professional service. Complimentary tea/coffee. My only problem with this hotel/chain is their internet policy. Minimum price for the web access is €8, which I think is too much. I personally think that charging for internet access nowadays is like charging for towels. I would sincerely advice that they should better bake in internet access in the room price but it should be complimentary. I would have no objection paying € 105/night instead of €110/night but purchasing cards for internet takes the grading of the hotel down.

A very nice, clean hotel. Good breakfast. rooms are typical business type, without much 'character' associated with some other hotels in Italy.

We only wish we could have extended our stay at Starhotels Excelsior in Bologna. Our room was directly across from the train station but was absolutely soundproof, it was spatious, well-apointed and perfectly clean. Because we had less than 24 hours to spend in the city, the kind receptionist explained to us how best to spend the Saturday afternoon and evening sightseeing. He selected and booked a restaurant for us--Tony's--which we thoroughally enjoyed. Tony's has authentic charm, delicious food, delightful waiters and is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We had to catch a plane before breakfast, so this same receptionist arranged a 'picnick' breakfast for our departure. Finally, he arranged a taxi to the airport for us. In sum, thanks to the ideal receptionist, whose name we do not know, our all too brief stay in Bologna was perfect. We will deffinately stay at Starhotels Excelsior again.

My stay is for sightseeng. This time, I chose by train for mainly moving means. So your hotel's standing is very convenient for me.

This is a very comfortable, modern and well maintained hotel clearly aimed at the business market. I can think of only two minor areas that would enhance the experience - free Wi-Fi the rates currently charged are too high and the need to catch the attention of staff to secure a hot drink at breakfast. It would be more customer focussed to ask guests upon arrival in the breakfast area what beverage they would like and provide a pot rather than cup.

Excellent modern style hotel, very clean rooms with all the necessary facilities. Good breakfast. Located opposite of the railway station, which is perfect if you plan to travel by train to nearby towns, like we did (Ravenna is a must!). 15 min walk from the historic center, which was actually a good thing after a good bolognese dinner.

It was a very nice hotel. staff very competent and told about the paces to go. a bit far if walking to the city center, but we wanted to stay by the train station hotel. recommended.

Very convenient location, right across the street from central train station and an easy walk to major tourist attractions. Hotel is modern and attractive, a business hotel that is long on comfort, if short on character. Exactly what I needed for a quick in, quick out visit to Bologna. The bus to the airport is also right across the street.

We were given free upgrade to suite..........was able to keep the room next day until my train left at 3.00pm....staff very accomodating.

The hotel location is great, perfect for shopping and for travelling as it opposite the central station and 10 min waslk from via del indipendenza. the employess at the time of our arrival were very very nice and the hotel is big and comfortable. would come back.

Modern hotel situated opposite railway station. Good location if travelling further afield. Staff were polite and helpful. Room service was very good. Only criticisms were high price of drink from room mini-bar and limited choice for breakfast. Overall, to be recommended.

We wanted a hotel near the train station. The hotel was right in front of the train station, so that was perfect since we were traveling with my 82 year old mother. The hotel staff were very helpful, and friendly. They provided maps and gave us suggesions on where to eat, what to visit, etc. We walked to the center of Bologna easily and there were many places to eat and shop along the way. At night, though, the area around our hotel was a bit creepy, not because of the hotel itself, but due to the nearby park and transient travelers coming from the train station. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast excellent. This hotel very much caters to business people, so they are very efficient and helpful. I would stay there again if I were to go to Bologna.

We ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel because we were tired from traveling. The food was too expensive and poorly prepared. However, the hotel was very convenient to the train station.

Extremely convenient hotel if you arrive in Bologna by train. Hotel staff were extremely accommodating and went out of their way to help us, given our limited competence in Italian. We stayed twice during this trip and enjoyed both visits. As a bonus - the hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone it was very comfortable, particularly the beds! Next time we visit cities where this chain has hotels we will seriously consider using them then in preference to any other hotel.

The Starhotels Excelsior is a very new modern hotel, directly across from Bologna Centrale train station, and within easy walking distance to the historial city center. The location is perfect if you're making Bologna the base for a stay and want to take day trips to other cities in the Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Toscana regions. The hotel is really quiet despite its location on a busy street, and the rooms were excellent. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay here. I should note that the area outside the hotel is not the most picturesque (being right across from the train station), so if you want to stay in a picturesque setting, a hotel within the historical center might be more appropriate.

Not only were the employees uniformly helpful and pleasant, but the building was well cared for and the room comfortable. The proximity to the railroad station is a major asset, but the walk to the major tourist sites is not long either.

Our stay at the Hotel Starhotels Excelsior Bologna was wonderful and all staff were efficient and welcoming. The location was fantastic as the train station was easily accesible as well as the town centre with all it's attractions. The hotel was superbly designed with modern interiors. I would thoroughly recommend people stay here.

I asked to reserve a taxi next early morning,but an unlicensed taxi came. Cost was very expensive.

We were incredibly lucky to get a large room with a pants press(!) for an incredible price. The hotel is righ across the train station (don't let that deter you), so it is great and easy for those travelling by train or for day trips to Modena, Parma or Florence. It is also located a nice 15 minute walk from the historical centre and great shopping. The front desk staff, although young are incredible competent, professional and helpful (they speak English). Bologna is a must if only for the great food (there were no organised tours offered by the City Visitors bureau)! This hotel was the best we stayed at in Italy, we were dissapointed to move on after 2 nights. It has a good breakfast offering scrambled eggs, bacon, cereal and variety of danish.

We were extremely happy with this hotel, it was superior to many of the hotels we had stayed in Italy. Our only complaint was that we had only booked in for 1 night. Next time we would most definitely spend at least 3 or 4 nights there. The hotel front desk also recommended an excellent restaurant for the night and his recommendation was first class.

Our stay at the hotel was really memorable. We were very happy with the room cleanliness and size. It was really value for money. The food also was really good. All in all the stay was excellent. We stayed for 2 nights and we found the hotel to be the ideal place to stay as it was very close to the station, and also not far from the main square. I would really recommend this hotel to others for staying whenever they visit Bologna.

The staff was wonderful, providing wonderful advice, great service and a friendly manner. We will stay at this hotel again should we return to Bologna.

This hotel is a very good solution for who travels by train or airplane, near the railway and in a central position inside the city. the rooms are perfect, clear, spacious like the bathroom.

One of the better hotels I've stayed in, anywhere/anytime. Gave me an upgrade without a request, and room outstanding. Bologna is an easy walking city, and hotel is directly across from train station, but close to everything else also. It's a business-oriented hotel, but that just added interest. Fine breakfast, including hot items.

This is an excellent hotel. It is the best value I have seen in Italy. The service and welcome were impecable. The room was outstanding in size, cleanliness and facilities provided. Everything was to the highest standard. Breakfast was the best we have experienced in Europe. The clientelle were mostly business so the hotel was quiet and orderly. The hotel is situated right at the Train station which is so convenient, (although train stations do attract undesrables hanging around). I would recommend this hotel for a base for any visit to Tuscany/Florence. Highly Recommended

Room was very nice and modern, very comfortable bed, and excellent bathroom. Room was a little small though. While it is across the road from the train station, it is a 15-20 minwalk up to Bologna's main piaza.

If this hotel were not located directly across the street from the train station, I think the price would dramatically go up. The double room was clean and updated. The breakfast buffet was very good. Yes, there is a coffee machine that disperses cappacino and coffee, but you may also ask for a fresh cup of any kind also. We were able to use the high speed internet in the business center with no charges. The staff were kind and professional. We liked the fact the hotel was by the station, as we were leaving early the next morning to take the train to Venice. However if you are staying for any length of time, you may prefer something down town. It is not for families with kids, as there's nothing for them to do near the hotel.

It stayed two nights with wife, 5-year-old and 1-year-old children. It was to do the hotel being which is very comfortable and is wonderful. The hotel was for us an excellent location since we depended on public transport for visiting surrounding towns. Also the aerobus brings you right from the airport to the station in front of the hotel. Our rooms overlooked a garden at the back of the hotel which assured perfect quietness. From the hotel it's a comfortable walk into the centre of town only a few minutes away. This was my first visit to Bologna and I've enjoyed it very much and I was pleased to find out that in august there were hardly any tourists, all very relaxing. I am Dutch and I've seen more people riding bikes in Mantova and Ferrara than in Holland, just incredible!

The hotel is directly across from the train station. We paid 30 euro and had a drive take us to the airport early the next morning. They staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the only complaint we had was that the room had previously been used by smokers and smelled like cigarette smoke.

This hotel is exceptional convenient to the rail station and very clean. Our only complaint is that there was no Breakfast as this is hotel is for Business travellers rather then holiday revellars.

It was a very nice hotel with all the amentities. If you are traveling on a budget this hotel may be a little pricey but worth it. Its also just across the street from the train station. I would definitely stay here again.

The Excelsior is in a fantastic location - right next to the main train station and within a very short walk of all the attractions of Bologna. The staff spoke extremely good English and were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. The room was very clean, smart and even had a mini television in the bathroom. There was also a safe for valuables within the room. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was superb - a very large spread of cold and hot breakfast items. We ate at a fantastic restaurant called Fantoni on Via del Pratello. The menu was completely in Italian so we just picked a few things at random - each item was fantastic and the house red wine was superb. The food and wine was extremely good value - a great 2 course meal with wine for 2 was around €50 If we returned to Bologna, we would definitely stay here again

The hotel is really good, the rooms are quite spacious and it is very reasonably priced. The location is OK but not charming, the walking distance to the town center is about 10 min.

In a return to Bologna we would not hesitate to stay at Starhotel Excelsior again. The hotels friendly helpful staff and the hotels location value and amenities make it a very nice combination.

Great hotel but pricy, all hotels in Bologna are not cheap. Great location near station and shops.

Very big minus for the shower area. When taking a shower the water was all over the floor. Strange- when everything else is so well composed and 'hi-tech'.....

Siamo una coppia di giovani. L'albergo è davvero molto bello e moderno (inoltre è stato da poco restaurato e si vede!!!), e i servizi offerti sono otimi. La camera era pulita con cura ogni giorno, la colazione era abbondante e sempre rifornita, e i restanti servizi offerti (scelta dei cuscini, pay tv, palestra, thè e cioccolato da fare in camera a qualsiasi ora, silenziosità e disponibilità della reception e dello staff) ci hanno davvero coccolati. Lo consigliamo vivamente!!Giudizio : OTTIMO!!! P.S. ci ha sorpresi trovare la tv in bagno!!!Fantastico!!

The location of the hotel was great, as we only spent 2 nights in Bologna and were able to wheel our luggage across the street with ease, upon arrival at the train station. We were also able to catch the aero bus across the street when we left, which gave us a quick connection to the airport. The hotel was immaculate and very quiet-we had made a special request for a quiet room in the back, as the hotel does sit on a very busy street. The bed was the most comfortable one we slept in, during our 2.5 weeks in Italy and Portugal! I also appreciated the marble bathroom with the huge tub. Service was prompt and efficient, nice breakfast buffet, and someone even ran a big bag of ice up to our room-for my swollen knee I had suffered in a fall while leaving Firenze! We enjoyed seeing Bologna for the first time although our hearts still belong to Firenze and Roma. Nonetheless, the hotel is comfortable, immaculate and conveniently located. We walked everywhere-even with my sore knee!

I always look forward to staying at this hotel when in Bologna.

We took our 5 year old daughter so where looking for a spacious triple room, which we got. The hotel is geared for business events, but we did not spend much time in the hotel so this did not affect our stay. We used the restaurant for breakfast, which was the weakest facility that we used. The restaurant struggled to deal with the large numbers staying in terms of space and replacing empty breakfast buffet - but this was the only gripe. The bedroom facilities were excellent. Overall good quality for the price.
