This hotel is minimilist in design which was nicely done, but might not suit everyone. There was no guide to the hotel in the room, just details of room service and TV channels, the wifi was very slow but internet worked satisfactorily when using a cable. My main complaint is that they have a cabaret-type diningroom with various amplified acts. The show finishes at midnight, (actually ended later) so that we were subjected to a VERY loud act including ABBA songs, etc.., which made sleep impossible. We also weren't aware of the noise till we returned to the hotel and had unpacked and were in bed, so changing rooms didn't seem an option. We were disturbed despite being on the 4th floor.

We were so impressed with the friendliness of every member of staff, the service was perfect not too intrusive and yet excellent when provided. Anything we ordered at the bar or in the lounge was served impecably. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

This is the second time I have stayed at this very chic and minimalist hotel,a short walk from the railway station, lots of bars and resturants nearby, breakfast extra a bit expensive at 15 euro.

Myself and my friend were very impressed with I Portici and found it very central and an inviting place to stay for our two nights. We stayed in the height of summer when it was very hot outside 37-40 degrees C and the hotel was always cool and comfortable. It was also excellent value through Venere.com. The only minor negative things that I would mention would be a) the rumbling and banging noise late into the night made by staff changing the dining area from conference tables to breakfast. This kept us awake from 12-1:30am despite 2 calls to reception complaining. My advice would be reject a room on the first floor because of this as I'd say it happens often. b) the guy on night receptionist our first night was quite sullen and not as friendly as the rest of the staff which brings that overall rating down. c) Some little extras in the room such as vanity packs, tissues and a waste basket also had to be requested. For 4starL rating these should have been in plentiful supply in the room. Having said that over all we really enjoyed our stay and would go back again through Venere.com (which has never let us down yet).

Fine, modern clean and sober/stylish hotel, good for business-people who value to be close to town-center for the sparse off-hours, and the excellent food of Bologna.

Nous avons été très satisfaits de la personne employée au desk. Elle nous a dépannés dans une situation un peu compliquée en envoyant un fax avec beaucoup d'amabilité.

The rooms are certainly minimalist - but might be regarded as a little sterile.

We stayed in this hotel as we were attending a local trade fair. From the moment we checked in the service was non existent. The staff at reception were too interested in their computers to look up and greet anyone wanting assistance. The lift broke down twice during our 4 day stay, with little assistance as to how to get downstairs, we ended up lost in the stair way on more than one occasion. On our last day there was no hot water. we called reception who advised us it would be up again in half hour. we called many times whilst waiting. the staff told us it was working, and it clearly wasnt. 2.5 hours later we missed an appointment we had for business, and had no apologies for the inconvenience. the staff told us some rooms had hot water and when we asked if we could use one that did they advised they would call us back and never did. our airconditioner also broke down. it was stuck on 28 degrees. we asked the maid to have a look at it and she called reception who said she would send someone up. We called twice and staff kept advising they would send a technician and never did. we had to sleep with the window open, as were dying from the heat. we paid 400 euro per night for this room as it was peak season, and it was definitely not worth the money. i travel to bologna every year for work, and have never met such an incompitent team of staff and had such an unpleasant stay. there was also no fridge or mini bar. will never stay here again.

WE were greeted with a friendly, efficient, and not overly patronising attitude consistent with what you might expect from a hotel in a large urban center. The location provided easy access to areas of interest. Parking is limited to a small adjoining court yard; get there early if you want a spot. The hotels proximity to the university made for a lively and youthful street scene. All in all a great stay. We would definetly go back.

Fab hotel with a great location. Breakfast was wonderful even though it was 10 euros extra but well worth it will stay here again when next in Bologna. Great bars and restaurants close by.

Ultramodern renovation of what must have been a lovely older building. This was the last night of a wonderful 2 weeks in Tuscany, and we stayed to be close the the airport in Bologna. Everything was very nice, but the stark minimalist decor corresponded to the fairly cold, minimalist experience--and hardly worth the room rate in my view.

the very first room that the receptionist led us to had not yet been cleaned. he then went downstairs to find another room while we waited a good 10 minutes for him to return to the floor where he had left us. the second room had multiple windows and a terrace but was unbearably noisy due to the fact that the room faced a major thoroughfare. the noise was so bad i felt like we were sitting at a bus depot. so we switched rooms again, this time to a smallish room that faced the interior courtyard. the room had a funny chemical smell; it may have been recently painted. there was not much ventilation because there was only one very narrow window that would open a maximum of about 3 inches. another beef: they charged 20 euros extra on top of the regular breakfast charge for room service. finally, be advised that there is no free shuttle to the airport contrary to what was stated on the listing.

The Hotel I Portici is very well situated for the railway station so is good for visitors who, like us, wish to explore other towns in the region. We were disappointed with the reality which did not match the hotel's website claims. We would suggest that they should not include details on the web of tea room, wellness area, and airport shuttle-bus service until they actually have any of these (the web should represent the reality rather than the long-term aims). The web also boasted Sky television which it did not have.

romm perfect, just the shower was a little small. Only drawback: lot of junkies and dealers in the area, so walking at night is not very comfortable.

Best hotel we stayed at during our entire month long trip. Situated within 10 mins. walking distance from train station and 15 mins. from historic core. Great big rooms, maybe too big since there seems to not be enough furniture to fill the room. Great attentive and knowledgeable staff.

What a brilliant idea - a modernistic makeover of a wonderful porticoed space. Breakfasts to die for and a great buzz! My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer ...

A welcome retreat in the most beautiful surroundings after hectic days at a trade show. The 2nd floor bar overlooking the balcony and park is a haven for pre dinner drinks.
