Stayed here for a week during the summer of '06 when Italy won the Soccer World Cup! Wonderfully quiet. Love this property, the staff, apartment (1 br to which we were upgraded), faab views from our balcony of the Palatine, wedding parties at the nearby church and paroramic rooftops/skyline! Excellent location to public busses (just outside & Piazza Venezia), Forum & Capitoline Hill/Museums, Circus Maximus, Tiber River & Trastevere, and the very nearby restaurants & tiny shop w/fresh cheeses, olives, meats, rolls (pic-nic makings!) canned goods/coffee, eggs, etc. YOU MUST CONSIDER STAYING HERE!!!

The rooms are in need of some repair. For example, carpets are worn, counters pulled away. We were incredibly happy with the locale

This was a great hotel and our favorite when in Italy. Positively wonderful for a family or group of young adults, with the rooms being large and spacious and yet separated enough to afford privacy. The bathrooms are large and I was able to take my first relaxing bath in a large tub in two weeks. Heaven after a hot day walking in Rome. Even greater than all of the above is this hotels location. It is not the closet to a metro stop, probably about a half a mile away, but it is worth the walk because you'll be sitting in the midst of the palantine hill and the circus maximus, with the colosseum and everything within a half mile walk. Plus, you are right next to the Tiber river and all it has to offer. Incredible. Right outside the door is the arch of Giano and the church of S. giorgio where we watched someone get married every single day that we stayed. I only have one bit of advice for future tenants, make sure you have precise directions to the door of this hotel as it is on a side rode that is easily missed and when you're a weary traveler hauling suitcases for a half a mile, it helps to know where you're going. Take a taxi if you can afford one on the way in and then you'll have you're center of gravity. If we make it to Rome again, I will stay at this hotel without hesitation.

Great location, could be difficult to find our your own, taxis know hotel well. Big rooms, lifts, clean, quite. Turn Air conditioning off at night though. Easy to walk to sites, train, city centre. Safe area, plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Recommend

We booked a studio, and were delighted to find that the bedroom was in fact a separate room. We had no view and it was rather dark because of its position within the building, but we did have access to a pleasant terrace. I think if we had booked the more expensive apartment accommodation we would have had a view, and possibly a balcony. I am not sure whether the price was good or not, as Rome is in general very expensive, but we would unhesitatingly stay there again. The staff were very friendly and the area is quiet but well served by buses and not far from the metro at the Circo Massimo.

Wonderful, welcoming, clean, and comfy. The furnishings in the rooms are plain and a bit worn, but the balcony, leafy view, and excellent front desk staff (and the cheap rates) more than made up for it. A great spot.

We were travelling as a family of 4, which apparently fits the kind of customers expected by this place. We had an overall pleasant stay, but the room (we got a nice one; #45, if I remember well, with a great view on the Palatin mount) would do well with a little fixing and cleaning: some wall hanging frames were torn, and a few spots need a thorough cleaning. Also, the folding bed in the first room is really uncomfortable...). Otherwise, a great place for a long weekend in Rome!

What a find! This is definitely Rome's "best-kept secret." Be sure to ask for a room with a balcony. Just a word or two of caution, which has nothing to do with the accommodations: The cost for internet access is a tad expensive, and our credit card number was stolen when we used it to gain internet access. Luckily, our credit card company picked up on it immediately.

We were surprised by the layout of the two bedroom suites. The corridor door opens directly onto the second bedroom. You walk through it to go to the Living-Dining-Kitchen area and the Master bedroom/bathroom. The manager claims that all two bedroom suites have a simlar layout.

A very pleasant stay in beutifull surroundings. Noise of traffic was disturbant when I like to have the window open during the night. But in all it did not matter. The emplyees were very helpfull. I will surely recommend this Residence for stays in Rome, and I will like to come back some day.

Good central location. Very helpful staff on reception. First reaction on seeing the apartment: Wow! Breakfast area small, but can take trays up to apartment, so no problem. Would recommend it.

An apartment hotel in a great area of Roma - older but clean - we have a living room/kitchen, bath and large bedroom with a balcony overlooking a beautiful garden - not for you if you want the Four Seasons but nice, good sized accomidations at a very competative price is a great location if yo want to walk Roma. I certainly would recommend it. Note that it is on a very narrow street and the airport shuttle could not go to it - we have to walk a block with our luggage up a flight of stairs to the lobby - not a problem for us but might be for some

The front desk staff was more helpfull than I have seen anywhere in the world! They assisted in our city tours and gave valuable information concerning our stay in Rome, and they did it all so readily, I felt I was speaking with an old friend. I will recommend this location to anyone wanting to visit Rome.

Stayed three nights. Nice hotel, great service, centrally located. Spacious rooms (ours had a terrace with a view), but not very clean - curtains were extremely dusty. Also, traffic noise took some hours of sleep. Might stay here again, but then bring ear-plugs.

We stayed Residence Palazzo al Velabro for seven days this last October. We really enjoyed our Roman holidays by staying the hotel. The staff of the hotel is all friendly and always gives us suitable advice. Our apartment room, consists of bedroom, living room with kitchen and bathroom, has enough space for two people. The view from the terrace of our room(Third floor)is excellent:we can see very old church, S. Giorgio al Velabro and the Arch of Giano. The location of the hotel is very convenient for sightseeing because the bus stop is only five minutes' walk from the hotel and we can utilize various buses stopping there.

We had a 3 room suite with a bedroom, kitchen, living room. It had a little outdoor balcony. All the windows opened so we could have fresh air. Our rooms overlooked a private garden, a church, and the Palatine hill. It is a quiet neigborhood in the heart of ancient Rome. We found a very friendly grocery (recommended by the hotel) where we bought food so we didn't have to eat out every meal. The hotel sold us excellent capaccino each morning. There are several good restaurants in the neighborhood--and it is a neighborhood . It's off the beaten track, so if you don't mind not being in the hustle and bustle it's a good choice.

This hotel is a hidden gem! We were so delighted with the size and cleanliness of the rooms. We had a kitchen with a good sized fridge and a 4 burner cooktop. The views from the large balcony were amazing. We walked to all sites we were interested in. Collisieum 10 min. Trevi Fountain 30 min. Even the Vatican is only a 40 min. stroll. The staff went out of there way to help. There is also a grocery store within a 5-10 min walk. would definitely stay again if in Rome

We had a wonderful stay at Plazzo al Velabro. The staff was very helpful and friendly, suggesting good places to eat, answering our many questions and accommodating our early morning arrival and late departure. It was a great location, close to attractions and yet away from the crowds. Being positioned on a street with no traffic meant that it was a peaceful place to rest after a day of sightseeing. The rooms were very spacious and clean. It was also nice to have the kitchen facilities for breakfast and snacks. The best part was our balcony with the view of the Palatino Hill. We look forward to returning to Rome and staying at Pallazo al Valabro.

We enjoyed 4 nights in room 44 (23-26) Metro is half a mile away (Circus Massimo) but many buses can take you from the hotel to Termini central station (or anywhere. There is a grocery store at the end of the block (200 m away) and also a nice restaurant (Alfreddo) The room was a bit dusty on the floor when we arrive late the 1st night - a bottle of soap to do the dish washing up was brought only next day. There is no micro wave, nor electric coffee machine (just a small italian style one. Yet, the kitchen, is convenient enough. The view was nice on 4th floor and the room quiet. Water was hot and always available in the bathroom. People at the front desk helpful. Despite the above few comments that would make the stay even more confortable, we really enjoyed our days at the Pallazio Velabro and will certainly return to try a room with a 6 the end (with a small terrasse and a better view). Rem: The terrasse at 1st floor is too noisy (air cooling system fans are installed nearby)

Palatium!!! Gerne wieder.

Great stay at the palazzo. The apartments have a kitchen, dinette, living room, bathroom and bedroom. More space per euro than you could imagine. Very friendly staff. good location. Negatives: Redecoration would be nice. Can't drive up to the hotel. Due to a 2000 year old arch, you have to be let out 1/2 block away or climb a flight of steps to reach the street where the hotel is situated.

The apartment house is in an excelent location right at the Roman Forum. The rooms were extremely large, ours had 3 rooms and a bathroom for 2 people.I would suggest having them arange a car to pick you up at the airport, it was tough getting the train then a bus with all of our luggage.

The property was very clean, the rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Although the property is centrally located and close to the Coluseum,Forum etc. we found that there were few restaurants in the immediate area which meant long walks to find a place to eat.

Palazzo Velabro is a gem. I stayed there 10 years ago and it's nice to see the same level of quality still exists today. If you want to be close to the Forum and Trastevere, stay here. If you like quiet, stay here. It's way back off the street on a spacious piazza. There are wonderful rooms with garden court views and panoramic views of the south and east of Rome, as well as parts of the Forum itself. Many of the rooms have spacious balconies also, overlooking the garden.

This is a great place for families to stay in Rome. The location is exremely convenient, the view from our room and balcony was lovely and having kitchen facilities was very important to us. There is a local shop which is very well stocked. My only suggestion is that the kitchen have a sponge and dischwashing soap. Otherwise it was very well stocked with dishes, utensils and cooking implements.

We had a wonderful stay at this residence hotel and would stay again. The price compares to two rooms at a three star hotel and we got a lot more for our money, though with the dollar conversion it was more expensive than we had planned. The hotel staff was gracious and helpful. The location just as advertised and the rate as quoted. Very, very nice place!

Beautiful location just a short walk from the old city. The staff was friendly but put us in the wrong room at first and neglected to tell us there would be no breakfast on weekends. The room was spacious, well-kept, and had a lovely balcony overlooking a garden and some ruins. Overall; a great location, good-size rooms, and comfortable competent service.

The only pity was, that the room was in the basement - absolutely no view and very dark. If you want to live in this hotel ask for a room above the first floor - they are really great! Also the staff is very nice and the location of the hotel between Capitol and Sante Maria in Cosmedin is, in my opinion, the best possible.

The location was walking distance to everything. The room was big and had a kitchen. Very nice view off the back patio. The best part of this hotel is its staff. We found them to be both very friendly and helpful. The young lady who works the front desk was an enormous help when we were having problems with our credit card. Would love to return. Very nice people. Thanks for making our honeymoon so special.
