Riad Slawi is a haven in Marrakesh. Adam is the most kind, generous and helpful host, ensuring we had a comfortable and enjoyable time. He really made our trip to Morrocco.

We're a young couple who like to travel very much, and considering Marrakech is a quite "adventurous" place, we could say that the Riad Slawi is a cosy and quiet place to stay 5 minutes away from the town's daily crazyness. The Riad Slawi is very comfortable and its staff is very nice and they all talk English (important thing: finding the Riad itself as well as all the other parts of Marrakech is quite difficult, so take care about what the owner suggests you: where to go and how to come back!). Location is quite good, just close to the souks and 20 minutes walking away from the town's plaza (Djema El Fnaa), but be aware it's very difficult and complicated to find it on the map and through the dark derbs (tiny streets). We'd anyway suggest 100% this very comfortable place to stay if you ever decide to take an adventure in Marrakech.

This Riad is based well within the Medina. If you stay gere then you will experience the real Morroco. If you want a plastic hotel then think twice before booking here as to access the riad you will walk past locals and through alleyways that have been there for centuries.

Lovely Riad, close to the Souk area of the city. Our host was fantastic, coming out to meet our taxi in the early hours of the morning! Nothing was too much trouble - arranged day excursion & taxis, etc. Great value for money!

A perfect Riad to stay in- adam (manager) was excellent, explained everything we needed to know to get the best out of our trip. Roof terrace was an added bonus when wanting to relax away from busy marrakech.Riad was 15-20 min walk from the centre square.

Having travelled to various countries in recent times we think there are a few things other hoteliers could learn from the management of this guest house. Mustapha was a very welcoming host, spoke very good English and nothing seemed to be too much trouble - he wasn't even phased by my partner's gluten intolerance!!! On saying that we would recommend taking gluten free flour and bread as it is not readily available in Morocco. Accommodation was clean and comfortable. Surrounding area took a little getting used to. Would highly recommend.

I can't recommend the Riad Slawi more highly. We had read the positive reviews on various travel sites and were keen to stay there so we booked the last remaining room (twin beds). Adam had noticed that we were married and had moved the beds together, which showed how thoughtful of detail and perceptive he was. From then on in, Adam and his colleagues couldn't do enough for us and helped us with advice, bookings and directions! From the minute we arrived at the airport, the taxi driver was waiting with a sign (this was prebooked through Adam in advance and I would advise this for a stress free arrival) and we were taken straight to the Riad by a porter that met the taxi driver (cost 20d). From then on in, our time at the Riad Slawi was perfect in every way. The food is fantastic - we arrived in the evening on the first day so prearranged an evening meal at the Riad. The breakfasts were also delicious. The Slawi is in a great spot as you are close to the sights but far enough away from the chaos close by. There is also a lovely roof terrace where you can take a book and relax. Outside of the Slawi, the Medina is a complete maze when you first arrive but you soon pick things up (helped immensely by the Rough Guide map). A good way to break up the shopping and Marrakesh madness is a day trip to Essourira (we went on the Supratours coach at 3 hours each way). We also did a hot air balloon ride (arranged buy Adam). A fair chunk of the budget at 2000d each but an unforgettable experience with added extras of a stop off at a Berber village and camel ride. The best restaurant we went to was the Villa Flore but we heard good reports about Le Fondeuk and good cafe/bars are Cafe d'Epices (good in day), Kosybar (don't eat there) and Cafe Arabe (great terrace).

If you get the chance to stay at Riad Slawi grab it with both hands! My daughter & her husband booked to stay at Riad Slawi after reading reviews on line. We decided to tag along and were lucky enough to book one of only 4 rooms there. What a superb place to stay. The owner, Adam, couldn't do enough for us. He organised taxis to and from the airport and met us at the taxi drop with a cart to transport the suit cases. We had about a 5 minute walk from the taxi drop to the Riad which would have been impossible without Adam. It's well worth emailing him before your trip with any requests/concerns you may have as he will sort them before you even get there! He organised us a day trip into the Atlas mountains with a fabulous english speaking guide and we had a really great time for very little money. Breakfast was taken in the courtyard and it really set you up for the day. Each morning we had a different "speciality" along with the usual fayre. You could hear Adam's lady mixing batters etc and then listen to pancakes etc sizzling in the pan before being brought to your table. Can't get fresher than that! Our 4 day trip to Marrakech was certainly enhanced by our choice of Riad and it's owner. Our flight home was unfortunately cancelled and because it was an evening flight we were put up in a 5* hotel, Palm Plaza, which was most welcome. I would't have swapped this for our lovely Riad and it's brilliant location within the city walls.

We will never forget our stay at riad Slawi. Adam is the most wonderful host you can ever find, so helpful and sensitive to your needs. Just a delightful young man that really touched my heart. This small riad has been totally redone with a lot of care and taste and is a stunning little jewel. A little hard to find but Adam will come and get you if you get lost. It was awesome.

Though it was our first stay in Marrakech we felt completely at home thanks to the Landlord Adam, the moroccan-canadian manager. Not only makes he sure that you feel comfortable in his hotel, he also arranges everything you might need. This was quite a challenge during our one week stay as taxis and busses were on strike. Adam and his brother got up at six in the morning, Adam to serve us his delicious breakfast, Samir to drive us to the bus station. After the hussle and bussle of the souks and main square we could relax in the peaceful Riad, beautifully decorated with great attention to details. I will definitely recommend this Riad to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Marrakech.

Had a lovely stay at Riad Slawi in Feb 2009. The family-run riad is beautifully & brightly decorated with gorgeous attention to detail - our room was stunningly styled with silk and velvet patchwork fabrics, traditional woodwork and lights, and had a beautiful domed ceiling inset with coloured glass in the bathroom. It was also very peaceful as it overlooks the central riad courtyard rather than the street. The riad is located in the atmospheric but very complicated alleys of the old town, about 15-20 min walk from the main square Djemaa el Fna - happily it is signposted from the nearest square/parking area. Adam, the friendly and eager manager, walks guests to Djemaa el Fna on their first day to help them get their bearings, speaks excellent English (as well as French, Arabic and a bit of Spanish) and was generally very helpful. When we explained we wanted to go on a daytrip but were on a budget, he helped arrange our trip and was careful to give us a range of different price options, including advising us how to get local buses if we wanted to. A 'Moroccan continental' style breakfast was served in the beautiful riad courtyard and we had something slightly different every day - a simple but tasty assortment of breads, pastries and pancakes, which was really nice! Our only gripe really was there wasn't always a lot of hot water - not enough to totally fill the stunning bath, which was fit for a sultan! - but for a taste of luxurious riad living on a budget, we absolutely loved Riad Slawi.
