My only complaint for the Riad Karmela is that I didn't have more time to laze on the roof top terrace! The Riad is stunning and the staff were terrific. Very hard to find, but worth it once you find the right little alley to turn down. Would highly recommend this Riad.

This riad is absolutely amazing. I cannot fault it at all! It was incredibly difficult to find, but once found it was like entering paradise. The evening meals were of exceptional quality and the host was untiringly charming, efficient and helpful.

The manager was happy to book taxis and trips for us but wouldn't really bother giving us much details about things we would ask. Also, the day trip we booked in advanced had to be booked by the manager last minute, as it was apparently not in his bookings list. On our last day, he also forgot to book our taxi to the airport and was not there at the check out time, leaving untrained staff to close the bills and book a taxi to take us to the airport last minute, which resulted in 45mins delay, but we luckly got our flight on time. Apart from these unpleasant "surprises", we had a wonderful stay at the Riad - which felt like an Oasis in the middle of that very exotic city. All the boys and girls on the staff were also extremelly helpful and lovely at all times with us. I recommend this Riad, but please make sure you double (or triple) check everything you book through the manager of the place as he seems to be very disorganized with those.

It was the first time we stayed at Riad Karmela. We were very impressed about the service of the owners and staff and also about the rooms at Riad Karmela. Having Dinner here is highly recommendable. We got an upgrade room from suite into apartment then to Riad Herioglu, which have bigger pool and we were the only guest there.

I travelled to Marrakesh with my Mum and we found riad Karmela to be an excellent base from which to explore the city. The riad is relatively easy to find once you've got your bearings and its only a short walk until you find yourself right in the middle of things. The riad itself it really beautiful and immaculately kept. The terrace on the roof and plunge pool made a fantastic place to relax in the evenings after a hard day of exploring/shopping in the summers heat. We decided to eat in the riad twice and on both occasions the food was excellent! Probably the best we had while we were in Morocco (and we tried alot!). The atmosphere was particularly good on the Saturday night when the riad was full and dinner was served on the roof complete with music and belly dancers! I would definately recommend this riad!

we were first time in Marrakech, the riad Karmela we found through the internet and were fully satisfied. The informations beforehand were very useful. The welcome was very friendly, there was always someone available, if we had any question. It is a quiet oasis very central, close to the main market with a good standard. A laptop for E-mail download was freely available with a good connnetion as well as wireless lan. We saw some rooms and each one was different and very nicely designed. Definately a good recommentation for those who are looking for a good standard with reasonable price.

Room at the Riad Karmela was not available, but they accommodated us by putting us into a similar room in a riad very close by. The riad is a safe oasis in a very exotic city. Everything was over-priced, however, including the room, the dinner, the spa, the taxis, and the 5% surcharge for paying with a credit card. I recommend staying in the old city for the atmosphere and excitement, but it would be worth comparing other riads before selecting Riad Karmela. Perhaps it's fairly priced -- I'm not so sure.

Riad Karmel is an oasis of friendliness and peace in the middle of hustle and bustle od the medina. Staf is very friendly and helpful, they orginiesed pick up from the train station, gave us a welcome tee and cookies and in general were very helpful with any requests we had. Food at the Riad is excelent!

Visited Marrakech with my 17 year old daughter and we had a wonderful time. The riad is beautiful. It was difficult to leave the room. We would come back in the afternoon and soak in the little dip pool. The negatives were that they charge a 5% commission if you pay with your credit card. That was not explained in the website. They said "everyone" in Marrakesh did so, but not true. We paid at restaurants and stores with credit card without paying the 5% charge. We picked this riad because of the hamman but we did not use it as It was extremely overpriced as was everything else that they tried to sell at the riad. Aside from that, I highly recommend Riad Karmela. For a great hamman experience try: Hamman Ziani. 062 71 5571-068 88 22 47. The owner lived in the US and speaks perfect English. It is not the typical tourist trap. (there were Moroccan patrons there when we went) The price was very reasonable, although I am sure that we paid more than the natives. We went twice in four days! Probably my most memorable experience in Marrakech.

Lovely Riad, but rude owner. The french owner does not speak English, except a few words such as "If you don't know french dont speak" or "shut up"

I can recommend Riad Karmela highly. It is a most beautiful riad situated in a fascinating part of the old city of Marrakech. The staff is friendly, helpful and efficient and service is excellent. The contrast between the quiet peacefulness of the riad and the lively bustle outside is quite remarkable.

A warm welcome set the scene for a tranquil break among kind and efficient staff, sensitive and helpful always. Fahida, the lady chef, created two excellent tagine dinners (one meat, one fish)on different evenings: I recommend dining here rather than sub-standard fare in the town, especially around the touristy square. For the brave, I also recommend the gommage scrub and massage.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Riad Karmela. It is in a superb location, nestled in the heart of the old town, minutes walk from the bustling souks. The staff and owners of the Riad were genuinely friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome and at home. I travelled with my best friend and we both agreed it is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed. It is a beautifully decorated place with a real sense of peace - very relaxing. I would highly recommend the evening dinners too - delicious! I hope you chose this place to stay and enjoy it as much as we did.

Riad Karmela made our holiday. It's an oasis in the middle of the medina. It's a very sociable place and the staff were excellent. The rooms are built around a courtyard and the riad is near a mosque so it can be a little noisy but that was all part of the charm. You definitely need to arrange to be met at the airport as you would never find it otherwise. If you are girls travelling alone I would advise not getting back after the souks have closed otherwise its fine. If you get chance go to Casa Lalla for dinner - fantastic! Overall we had a wonderful stay and would go back.

Pros: Phillipe and Joel are very welcoming and helpful. The Riad is beautiful and has lovely staff. Our room was lovely and it is value for money. The Riad organised airport transfers on request which were great. They can also provide lunch or dinner on request-this is convenient especially if you arrive around these times, food was good. Cons: The Riad advertised a pool, however there is no pool-they have 2 jacuzzi's. Also breakfast is not served upstairs with a view of the Atlas mountains as it was 'too cold'; also the view was overrated. The ground floor room in which we stayed was quite noisy especially in the very early mornings as breakfast was set up and served (sometimes very early for guests who had early flights to catch). Overall, my friend and I had a good stay at Riad Karmela and a nice time in Marrakesh. However, do your homework before going to Marrakesh. If you lose your way and a young boy offers to take you to the Riad, be firm and agree a price, otherwise when they get to the Riad, the original boy has multiplied to about 6 of them and they hassle you for more money. If you don't want to be shown the way, be firm. Be wise with bargaining too (oh yes, and be firm if you don't want to buy) - you will be quoted ridiculous prices, especially if you say you are English. As days go by you will realise just how much you were swindled(!), however prices are extremely cheap when converted to the pound, so have some fun with your bargaining!! I would reccomend going with a male companion. My friend and I got extremely harrassed by the souks (it did't help she is blonde and stunning!) and perved on by the men, but the perving on is not uncommon even to locals, so take it in your stride! Marrakesh is lovely and the locals are very friendly in general. Have fun!

This riad was just taken over by a new manager - Phillip who does a great job to make you feel welcome. The Riad is beautiful yet a few things weren't as described: for instance, the pool in the courtyard was not working nor the Jacuzzi upstairs. Also, the breakfast is OK but not great although having it on the sunny roof terrace partly makes up for it. The food is OK but definitely overpriced. Overall, this riad is great but in order to justify its prices it needs to provide better service and more sophisticated food.
