This Riad is in a part of Marrakech which is not full of tourists, it is an area where Moroccans live and work. There are local shops and stalls selling fresh and dried foods, orange juice, fresh breads, vegetables and Moroccan fast foods, like fried fish, lamb stew and olives. The main street is full of life and has cars, bikes, lorries and donkey carts. The streets are cobbled and dusty. The noise is quite something with street calls, horns and engines reving. But the Riad is well off the main street down an unmade up path which winds its way to the Riad door. Inside is cool peace and quiet. The Baba Ali is a very small Riad with 4 bedrooms. The lounge area is comfortable and cool. There is a terrace on the roof with seating and parasols. Breakfast is served there as it is cool in the mornings but gets very hot during the day. Breakfast is a bit bland and boring. I would have liked some fruit and yogurt, olives and dried fruit. I have been to cheaper hotels where the breakfasts were far better. Having said that, the staff are helpful and friendly and it only takes a few minutes to walk to most of the major sites. I can recommend the local Hammam. Turn left at the Mosque at the junction with the path from the hotel and the main street and look out for the sign written in English on the right about 50 mt along the road. 25MAD for basic or 85 for the works, go for the works your skin will thank you.

The staff is outstanding. We were made to feel very welcome and like one of the family. Some major sewer work was being done just outside the front door but it didn't present a great problem. We ate dinner there almost every night and thought the food was a great value for the money. The locatio is ideal---right in the heart of the oldest part of the medina, within walking distance of most attractions.

A beautiful riad hidden away down the narrow alleys of Marrakech. We were given a very warm welcome by Nicole and lots of useful information. All the staff were delightful and very helpful.

We arranged with the riad for an airport transfer & are glad we did. The hotel is difficult to find at first. Our taxi was met by Mathieu (the owner) and we were given a warm welcome into Baba Ali. The public area of the riad was very tranquil and we instantly felt relaxed and at home. The room was comfortable and big enough for our requirements. It was cleaned every day, but we had the same towels and sheets all week. The staff were fantastic, especially Mohammed, who could not do enough to help us and who is a real asset to the guest house. We ate in 3 times, and enjoyed every meal. Breakfast was also good. We were provided with a map and given diections to the Square. Venturing out the first morning is an adventure in Marracech, but one well worth undertaking as its a great place to explore. A choice of tours can be booked through the riad. We booked one to the Cascade and enjoyed a good day out. My wife was a bit worried about walking through the souqs after dark (I did not feel at all at risk), but the riad will give you a card, which you can show to a taxi driver, who will bring you home safely, and cheaply. Some knowledge of French (or Arabic) would be an advantage, but the staff are all friendly and patient, and Mathieu speaks English. All in all a very good experience, and good value. You can stay in a hotel anywhere, but a riad is unique to Morocco and should not be missed.

After spending hours trying to choose a Riad, I went for Baba Ali and I am so glad we did. The whole experience from start to finish with the Riad was fabulous. Mathieu arranged the transfers from Airport to Riad, which I would recommend as not the easiest place to find initially (but nowhere is in Marrakech!). We enjoyed a mint tea after being shown around the Riad - What a beautiful place. There is a lounge, dining room, small pool, massage room, 4 bedrooms and roof terrace. All the rooms are spacious enough, immaculate and simply but stunningly done out using local products from the Medina (we asked were to get the bedspreads from to bring one home). We stayed in the Ouarzazate room which was just perfect for us. The room was cleaned every day and there were fresh towels and a hairdryer, air con and heating. We had a simple and tasty breakfast every morning and ate in the Riad twice and the food was amazing (and the best we ate in Marrakech, cooked by Fatima). Drinks were available whenever you wanted (even beer!). The ambience in the Riad was so relaxing, after the hectic streets of Marrakech, coming home to the Riad was a pleasure. The Riad is located just to the North of the Souks and Place Jemaa el Fna and our first walk there was quite an experience, luckily we had Maroune from the Riad to guide us for our first trip out showing us the route to the square through what seemed like a maze of tiny streets and then to the Koutoubia Mosque and down Rue Bab Agnou. It was quite daunting the initial time, but after that we were experts (the Riad was about 15 mins on foot from the main square and all the action. If you like to experience the real Marrakech then the walk from the Riad is just that - watch out for the bikes, horses and donkeys, it is not the faint hearted). The service at the Riad was great, nothing was too much trouble and there was always someone there to help you (but not at all intrusive). We absolutely loved this Riad and would not hesitate to rec
