Hôtel Sunset Resort & Spa - La Gaude

My husband and I stayed for a day at the sunset resort becacause the day after I had to catch a flight from Nice and from the website it looked like they had good sport facilities. However, only the pool was complimentary and everything else was extra (15€ for an hr of squash?), a lame breakfast for 10€? But I guess in this part of France most of hotels are a rip off.

The only problem was to find the hotel. It is a turistic developement area on the hills. Very difficult to find even with the navigation system. You need to have the exact coordinates. Otherwise in September was very quiet and very convenient for a relaxing stop in the middle of a trip. But the whole structure is supposed to be used as a long stay sport facility. You must have a car. No public transportation.

The overall impression of our stay at this resort, was very good, regarding most aspects. We are family with young children and appreciated the resort's support facilities, such as restaraunt, playground, farm animals etc. However, there was an incident, causing us inconvinience and embarrassment. We had booked the room with inluded breakfast in the price. When we reached the resort, the receptionist informed us that the breakfast was not in the price and an extra 33 euros per day was required for the 4 of us. They told us that this situation was due to misunderstanding between the resort and venere. I am not interested in the reason of this inconvinience, but the resort should not charge it's customers with unforseen fees. Any lack of communication between the resort and venere, should not cause extra charge for the customers. IT WAS NOT POLITE and the resort should have avoided asking extra charge for the breakfast until solving this issue with venere.

Struttura adatta a chi ama tranquillita' e praticare sport. Immersa nel verde, offre un fantastico panorama e incredibile silenzio. Bellissime strutture sportive e una piscina veramente all'altezza. Il personale e' molto cordiale e molto preparato. La colazione e' abbondante e la cucina e' buona. La zona rimane isolata ma strategica. A venti minuti da Nizza, Cagnes sur mer, saint paul de vence e altre mete turistiche. Ovviamente scomodo per chi vuole fare vita da mare...

Petit coin de paradis avec une superbe vue. Un accueil exceptionnel ! Le personnel était aux petits soins pour nos enfants et nous. Les enfants ont adoré donner à manger aux chèvres et aux lapins. Le cadre était vraiment très beau. La chambre était vraiment spacieuse. A recommander à tout le monde

Place is very nice and located on the top of the hills, beautiful view, very nice pool and gym. However, it was quiet difficult to get the hotel and to find another restaurant, in the surroundings, apart from the hotel's one.

Restaurant was closed, some noisy neightbours. Site fantastic. Difficult to find, but when you know it, it is easy.

Very difficult to find. Too far from any restaurants/services. Nothing near hotel. No one at front desk. No one available for check-out. No food or drinks at hotel. No lights in common areas. Beautful property, but no one tending to it.

Hotel was difficult find based on directions in website. Once there our stay was wonderful! We would stay at this property again!!!!

Don't stay here in October, if you are going with children who want to use the facitlites. We chose to stay here because of the facilities, but pool closed (the days were beautiful and warm and pool looked very inviting) and bikes being repaired, restaurant closed (except breakfast which we didn't try) - VERY dissappointed children, and staff not all that sympathetic, so we chose to only stay one night out of our booked 4, and stay closer to the centre of Nice.Very nice location - beautifully quiet and restful, although only suitable if you have a car because not much else around and is about 1/2 hr drive from centre of Nice. Rooms spacious and clean, and good value for money. We would only stay again, if we were assured that all facilites were open.

Overall the hotel was not very easy to find. Once arrived at the resort, it was difficult to find the reception area. We were booked in fairly efficiently but help was not available to locate the room as the hotel rooms were in a different building altogether. There were no staff at the hotel building at all, other than at the main resort building near the entrance . The room was spacious & clean but lacking in facilities like mini-bar or tea/coffee making equipment. Due to leaving early in the morning checking out also became a problem due to the reception at the main building being closed and the hotel building reception not being staffed.

SunSet Village is a beautiful property with swimming pool, tennis courts, etc. to use if you chose to or not. It's located 30 min. from Nice in the hills so it only works if you are driving. I found it to be nice respite from the bustle of Nice. The building where the rooms were looked new, so everything was clean and sparkling. The room it self was on a small size but it was compensated by a big balcony with table and chairs with great views of the surrounding area and the Mediterranean. One small setback was that the directions that came with the reservation were not that clear and it took us a while to locate the property, so get the info from the hotel prior to driving there. I highly recommend this wonderfl resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. You could have breafast for 9 euro or a dinner at the restaurant on the property. I did not have either. Because I was there at the beginning of May when the season had not started yet, we had the whole place to ourselves and that was wonderful. So I can't say what it's like to be there when it's filled to the capacity.
