Great location across street from Genova rail station....lovely city. Concierge made reservations at nearby reataurant...Stallone....excellent...he told us he takes his own parents there for dinner....very nice desk people and excellent breakfast served in sunny room with great coffee/cappuchino and pastries.

Palazzo vecchio (beh in realtà è liberty). Spazi angusti, stanze piccole, colazione abbastanza buona e varia (ma pessimo caffè). Molto comodo per la city genovese, per i turisti forse no.

We had 2 rooms, one with a doble bed which was too small, and the other for 3 people with enough space. The beds were not very confortable because they were not soft enough, and we could not find an internet service in the nearby of the hotel on saturday, in order to book a car rental for the following day, as we expected. Otherwise, everything else was OK.

Breakfast was great but could be improved taken into account special diets (low fat yogurts, fresh fruits instead of canned fruits...)

We stayed just one night because we should go on by ship, but we found the hotel very nice and beautiful, especially the architecture and interior details. We surely recommend the hotel !

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL. You get a one person room and they call it a French room. There was only one set of everything. We had to ask several times to get an extra set of towels. The receptionist was not helping you at all, they were very bored and tried not to help you at all, they were the opposite og italian kindness. The breakfast was nothing special, but ok. So bad, bad, bad...

The Moderno Verdi is a modern upscale hotel located just across the square from Genova's main railway station. This is one of those rare hotels that provided an abundance of power points and mirrors suitable for all the things the ladies do to get their day started! The room was small but reasonable with a good sized closet off the hall entrance. Our bath was small - so small in fact that one had to squeeze between the sink, bidet and wall to get to the loo! However the other couple in our party had a much larger room and bath with a much larger shower. It is definitely the luck of the draw, but other than the contortions required for the loo, we really could not complain. The hotel itself is quite stylish. The lobby area is nice, and there is a large old style but completely modernised "cage" type lift in addition to the traditional 3 person max version one finds throughout Europe. A plentiful breakfast was served in a large attractive hall, and it would be difficult to go away hungry. Our price through Venere was less than €100, so this hotel is definitely recommended by The Savvy Traveler.

I frequently travel alone for business. The initial room i was assigned was very small. As i know that the hotel was almost empty (August weekend i requsted a larger room. They kindly assigned me one. However i was awoken the next morning by part on the ceiling collapsing, thankfully not on top of me. A leaky air con unit had saturated the flimsy panel. Staff were extrememly nonchalent, insisting that it couldn't have hurt me even if it had landed on my head. Only the maintenance worker attended to the situation with irritation. It took them forever to find me another room. It was inconvenient to have to pack and move, causing me to reschedule an important meeting. The 'special summer rate' of 85 euros single did provide decent price/quality value once i was moved to a normal sized room.

Hotel Moderno Verdi is a very nice hotel, ideally situated within walking distance to harbour, shops and old city. The only difficulty was to find the entrance to the parking house, located in the middle of a pedestrian presinct.

Good hotel. Would use it again. Close proximity to station. 15 euro taxi ride from ferry terminal. Hotel restaurant was closed and staff recommended another within walking distance, which was excellent.

It is a nice hotel for a couple of nights. The position is central and convenient and the summer fares are good value for money. On the downside, rooms are small and mostly with very poor views. The public areas are quite dark. Good for one or two nights if you don't have to spend a lot of time in the hotel.

This hotel is a 4-star hotel located situated right across from Genova's Brignole station. The rate is very good in relation to what they offer. The room is clean and spacious, and the person at the reception desk was very friendly. The hotel is within walking distance to the port where the acquarium is (about 20 minutes). We would definitely stay here again!

Average upper-middle-class hotel: not worth the 280 euros per night advertised at reception, but definitely 60 as offered on the internet. Good showers, decent breakfast, comfortable beds.

Very close to the train station. We were very surprised when we arrived and were wondering if the rate we were quoted was actually what we were going to pay because it was so fanciful. Marble floors etc, very high end hotel. We did pay what we were quoted. Close to town. We took a train from the main station and it was the first stop. Close to town. Very comfortable place.

Location was good, just by the railway station. The room was ok, a bit worn but very clean. The beds were really really small. I would expect a better room in a four star hotel. The staff was not very friendly. They did not let us keep the room until 2 pm on the departure date, althougt the hotel was practically empty. The breakfast was ok, not too much variety.

Buon albergo, anche se dal sito appare migliore. Buono e conveniente anche il ristorante. Il rapporto qualità prezzo (60 euro per una singola) è eccellente, ma probabilmente legato al periodo di bassa stagione.

This hotel was even better than I expected. The staff was very helpful especially recommending a great place to eat. It was a perfect introduction to Italy.

On arrival I was warmly welcomed by a girl who, thankfully, could speak English, which was a relief because I was not feeling confident to speak Italian at that time. I was taken to my room by a gentleman who carried my bags and showed me how to work various things in the room. The room was spacious and certainly more than I expected (I ordered a single room but got a double room for the same price), and was not only comfortable but exactly what I required. The hotel is perfectly located in the square right next to the main train station and is easily accessible to the centre of the city where all the shops and bars are. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating and understanding of my predicament and, not only that, they were always helpful and friendly. When I visit Genoa again I will definitely return to the Hotel Moderno Verdi. Genoa is a beautiful city and the people are warm and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel because it has an authentic Italian style but is modern at the same time.

On arrival we were shown a terrible room - small with 2 single beds at either end of the room. Not a "double room". Unacceptable!!! On complaining we were moved to a satisfactory double room.

From my room I could hear some road noise, but it depends on your sensibility. Excellent quality/price ratio.

The pictures give an idea of a much more comfortable hotel. The room we were given was much smaller than those on the pictures and definetly 3 stars level. Smell of sewage in the room from a badly closed well in the bathroom. The room was small and the view from the window was terrible (Better to keep it closed..). The hall is small, ordered and nice but definetly not 4 stars hotel level. The receptionists were kind, available and well mannered and helped us (my wives had a fever so had to stay in bed). They helped me get breakfast and bring it to the room. In general, 90 Euros for 1 night for 2 is not really a great bargain. Worste of all was the smell - something that should not happen in a 4 stars or in any hotel! Location is good as it is a few steps from one of the 2 Genova stations and walking distance form the city historical center - non need for a car, even to go down to the harbour.

Hotel was conveniently located walking distance from station. Staff welcoming but very poor command of english and no knowledge of french. Room was like a fridge on arrival and took min 1.5 hours to warm up. The bathroom never did! Be aware the restaurant is closed three out of seven days of the week and room service also unavailable on certain days plus not very comprehensive. They did manage to put together a bottle of warm milk for my toddler even so and a plate of biscuits - best not to arrive late at night becuase usual option is for them to send you out again in search of food. Staff pleasant and friendly. Rooms very clean. Limited TV - no cable, all Italian except for one news channel. The phots really excluded the fact that the hotel is located on a busy road junction opposite the station which is inhabited by multiple tramps and beggars. If arriving from the train station, you have to cross a very busy road and all taxis wait at the station. Hence if you need a taxi to take you to the airport you end up crossing the junction again in the mornings. I think the bellman should call a taxi to come over to the front of the hotel instead. Not sure I woudl rate this hotel as 4 stars - more like 3.

The web pages suggest a great breakfast buffet. And indeed the variety was very vast, but the quality was disappointing (coffee, juices, ...) The type of the room is not clearly shown in the web-pages. Our room, although very clean and comfortable, was very small, probably a single room usually. After all, we enjoyed our stay.
