Our room was like a closet with terrible lighting, especially the desk lamp and no place to put our luggage. The bathroom, however, was clean, modern and upscale. The shower was a part of the bathroom, not enclosed and therefore the entire bathroom suffered from being wet and having permanent water spotting. The area around the hotel was questionable as to safety and while the online photos looked fabulous, reality was quite different. The elevator was in the back of the lobby and looked like a service elevator. Its carpet was torn and dirty, as was the hallway around the elevator. The door to our room opened out into the hallway, very strange. The bed was small and very used, not comfortable. The room phone did not work, nor did the phone in our friends room, a security issue. The breakfast room was beautiful and the buffet artistically arranged. Additional note: if the wireless doesn't work and you even plug in your computer once, you will be charged, whether or not you can make it work. (Not clearly explained that wireless is available in all rooms and free.) This hotel needs a renovation. Everything looked cheap. After one night we moved to a a beautiful hotel, the Hilton Excelsior, in much better location, and the price was comparable.

The first room they gave to us was poor: hole in the ceeling (with dropping water from the conditioner) and with dirty walls. After that i have had a conversation with staff at reception. they didn't want to give us another room (no free rooms more etc), but after i began to talk noisly they gave me another room in 10 seconds. Second room was clearer without any issues, with much more better bathroom and with a balcony.

Hotel is in a safe quiet convenient situation off via Roma for all the sights and near bus stops and Airport Shuttlebus stop in Politeama Piazza.Don't be put off by the outside appearance of hotel inside it is quirky, modern and clean. The reception were friendly and informative and English speaken.Good choices of food at breakfast including pancetta/scrambled egg.Machine for coffee not so wonderful but will bring fresh coffee if asked.Fruit juices not good. Barman friendly and it was a nice surprise to find small canapes offered with drinks.Would stay again if in Palermo as thought good value given.

Chic and stylish at the expense of comfort! Room at first looked good but in fact curtains were hanging off, closet door detached at hinge, shower leaked over bathroom floor. The balcony was large but the room was cramped for two people. The temperature was kept too high and only control was to open balcony door inviting in street noise! Bed was uncomfortable with hard pillows.Because of lack of sleep missed breakfast. Bathroom in lobby area was dirty and not topped up. Was occupied by air crew changing clothes. Have seen this hotel offered at almost E200 per night.....I felt the E59 offer price paid was still too much!

The hotel was conveniently situated for walking around Palermo, or taking buses or trains. We chose the Mercure, being a worlwide known hotel chain, and the standard we got was moreorless what we expected. However the Mercure website clearly stated that the bedrooms had tea and coffee making facilities, this was not the case, and it was a shame. We would also have liked a safe in each room, rather than putting our valuables in the hotel safe.(website once again not clear enough) The wifi was not working efficiently at times, not good when it clearly says on the website that it is a hotel for business people. Breakfast was included in the price, and it was adequate, although very noisy at times, due to the acoustic of the room, and some waitresses clashing and banging plates, trays, cupboards... The first night we arrived, we asked the barman for a drink, and as his shift had finished two minutes before, which we did not know, he was very rude telling us we could not get a drink. Not good, but the receptionist was a lot nicer and we did get a drink in the end. On the whole, the Palermo Mercure hotel is fine, the plumbing and hot water work, and you get what you are used to in other countries, minus the few hiccups mentioned above.

This was the most modern place we stayed in Sicily and the least expensive. The location close to Via Roma is very safe and nice for walking around at night. Its relatively close to Teatro Massimo, which is a good area for places to eat and lively at night. The hotel was a long walk to some of the other sites, but since we enjoy walking in cities, not a big deal. The breakfast buffet was great and I liked having a balcony. For good eating, I recommend Casa del Brodo, Corso Vittorio Emmanuel 175; Trattoria Al Mestro Del Brodo, Via Pannieri 7--both are close to Via Roma and Corso Vittorio Emmanuel. Also, near the hotel, Lo Sparviero (great pizza and other things) on Via Sperilinga (to the right side of Teatro Massimo as you are facing the stairs--one street in from the Teatro) and Cancelletto Verde on Via R. Wagner between Belmonte and Emerico Amari. I really liked the Cappella Palatina and cathedral in Monreale for the mosaics and just walking around town.

I stayed for 2 weeks in winter. The location suited me very well: a short walk to the main streets, with shops and opera and theatres; a 15 minutes' walk to the railway and coach station, access to local amenities, including local bus stops. I didn't need them all but they included dry cleaners, laundry and laundrettes, tailors, shoe repairers, grocers, a range of restaurants - including a very good self-service, bread shops, car mechanics etc etc and churches. It rained quite a bit but the hotel had a collection of umbrellas for guests to use. I found all he staff vvery cheerful and helpful. Buffet breakfast I thought was fine: 3 cereals, fresh and canned fruit, juice from a machine, bacon and scrambled eggs, rolls, sliced bread and lots of cakes. Coffee was from a machine or could be ordered separately at no extra charge. This is a modern hotel with contemporary style furniture and fittings. I wold certainly stay here again.

This is a great hotel in a great location and a good value. The room was clean, spacious, well-equipped with amenities, and quiet (except the fan was a bit squeaky). Staff was very friendly, helpful, and spoke English. Breakfast was outstanding. The location is in a nice and safe part of town, and all the major sites are within a short walking distance. I took a bus from the airport for 5 euro and was let off at Piazza Politeama, just three or so short blocks away. The hotel called a taxi for me quite early in the morning of my departure (4:30 a.m.), and it arrived exactly on time. The hotel is modern and cheerful, and I highly recommend it for all travelers. I expect to return with my wife and kids. My stay was in early December. There are many good hotels in this part of Palermo, but I will return to the Mercure.

the hotel was modern and hip my sister and i stayed together there and had a big room with a seperate living room we were really happy with all the space their breakfast was the best of any breakfasts we had been served anywhere in italy so we were really happy with that feature desk seemed to be a little short staffed but the people were always helpful and professional to us the only thing a little difficult was the internet which we had to pay for in the lobby we needed plenty of help with the sightseeing and were given only a brochure later were given maps of the area and good directions about what buses to take and where to pick the up

Modern hotel situated just off from Via Roma. Good location for all attractions, only 5 mins walk from Teatro Massimo. Reception staff not very friendly, but provided help/maps etc when asked. Rooms were clean and everything worked OK. Sheets and towels were changed every day we were there. Great breakfast offering lots of fresh food to cater for all nationalities. No restaurant open at lunch/night time, but lots of places to go locally. Hotel bar open until 11.30pm, very large measures of spirits provided! We stayed at the Mercure for 3 nights and would recommend it as a good base for sight seeing. This was our first visit to Sicily, we didnt realise that Palermo was so big. Lots to see and do. We didnt hire a car as we walked around most places. Wouldnt recommed driving - its crazy...all the cars have dents and scratches. We took the bus to Mondello and also Trapani. Only a few euros. Both towns very quiet and pretty.

Although we did not like Palermo this hotel was an oasis where we spent most of our time. Our room was fantastic, clean, spacious and ever so slightly decadent. Ok it is a bulk standard hotel chain but when you have been on a long journey from Milan by train stopping off on the way at 2 and 3 star hotels, this hotel was an incredibly relaxing way to spend our last two days in Italy/Sicily. Breakfast was fine, the bar was fine and the TV package was great. We got this room at a great rate through Venere and would strongly reccommend it.

The bus from the airport drops you off at Politomea Square, a five minute walk away from the hotel and it only cost 5 Euros each. The hotel was modern, clean, bright and welcoming after 24 hours of travelling. It had a great balcony to look out over Palermo. The breakfast was excellent and their cappucino was hot! Walkable distance to everything. Palermo was a lot more charming than imagined and near the hotel there were different restaurants to try.

Breakfast was very nice first morning at 7.30. But having breakfast later was a mistake because things were missing, coffee was cold and so on. I guess it was meant to be a stylish built hotel, however much of the material used seamed so be cheap and broke easily. For example was our bathroom flooding because of some mistake in the construction and there was a hole in the roof in the reception area. We were offered a new room because of the bathroom.

The hotel is phisically good. The building, the rooms, the A/C and the halls are all good. The problem is the people at the front desk. They are very slow and understand "nothing" of english and do not care about the customers problems. Additionally the parking space is very reduced and the hotel has not safe box. The first day we did not have soap at the bath and the second day we did not have shower towells. We asked for both but they never sent any. This hotel could be an excellent 4 star but they have to put better people to run it.

Although it was written that private parking was available, in fact we were informed that it was full and therefore we had to find another solution. Besides, we were informed that in any case we would have had to pay for it, which was not specified in the information about the facility. Besides this, some of the personnel was not really helpful and kind. But the location was excellent, rooms were spacious and clean.

Very dissapointed with this hotel. This premises is marketed as a four star....whereas it would more realistically pass for an ordinary 3star...at a push. Not quite sure how or where the extra star came from. The rooms, while very clean and quite new, were particularly small. The biggest annoyance however was the noise - the room we stayed in was right next to the elevator and suffered loud machinery noise all night. The hotel staff seemed surprised this was a problem. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel...there are far more charming...and much cheaper...options in Palermo

The photos shown on the site don't do justice to the overall quality of the hotel. It is a very beautifully designed place. Staff are very friendly and helpful The garage is on the small side, so unsuitable for large (long) cars and there are only 8 spaces available. Though the maps are accurate, it is a bit difficult to find the hotel, which is not signposted in town. One trick is to follow the signs for "Grand Hotel delle Palme" on the Via Roma and turn right just before reaching it.
