Mercure Hotel Potsdam City - Potsdam, Berlin

The hotel is in a modern block right in the historic city centre of Potsdam, very close to the main railway station and convenient to tourist destintions in Potsdam. (I understand the block is regarded as a blot on the landscape by locals!). I only stayed overnight, and didn't have breakfast, but my room was extremely clean and comfortable, and the hotel was very convenient for my purposes. Note that some categories I couldn't rate, so have given them 5, since (unhelpfully) the web page doesn't allow me to leave them blank

Unfortunately very high price for private. High price for beakfast. But good location, clean and over all very well.

Didn't realise it was room only we had booked. Breakfast at 16 euros seemed a bit steep. However, we decided we would have it, and it certainly was one of the best breakfast spreads we have seen or eaten! Location was excellent, close to train station and not far from town. OK, it wasn't high summer and we didn't need the window open, otherwise the passing traffic could have been a bit noisy. Rooms were very modern and well appointed. Overall, we were very pleased with our choice.

One overnight is not enough to get full picture about one hotel. Anyway, the first contact with reception left the feeling of being treated routinely. Informations how to get around in the town or about parking regulation in the hotel was hard to get. The room was, well, surprisingly organized. Besides the double bed, there was a third bed in some kind of niche. The room is just big enough to manoeuvre around the bed. Some decorations are just an obstacle. The bathroom was the biggest surprise. Without door to separate it from the sleeping room is hard to have a minimum privacy while inside. By the way the room didn't have a proper wardrobe. If you reach for the window to open, there is a writing near the handle, asking the guests not to open the window – because of mosquitoes and spiders. The room and bathroom were absolutely clean and equipped with everything a guest might need.
