Yes, it was the first time I stayed at Hotel Villa Carpegna in Rome. Meals in Villa Carpegna are very expensive. Nearby there are only few little Pizzerias, not very good.

Although a little far out from the central part of the city, once you get used to the public transport system in Rome, this hotel is not too bad. A couple of minutes walking down the hill takes you to the bus stop. From there you can take the bus to most places you are likely to visit. The hotel is in a quiet area and comfortable and has a nice pool for when the day gets too hot ! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfasts are good and reasonable but can get quite busy at peak times. All in all, for the price I would not hesitate in going back to this hotel, if ever visiting Rome again

The building and rooms are excellent. The breakfast is super. However, the staff is unprofessional. It is not easily reachable by subway and the neighborhood is safe but not not very nice.

A clean modern hotel on the western side of the city; convenient for the Vatican and a reasonable cab ride from the city centre. It's location on a hillside offers a better view than some and being set back from the road reduces traffic noise. For airport connections its a good choice since you are well positioned to beat the worst of the city traffic. Although used by tour groups and business parties, its spacious layout meant that there was room for all. Helpfull and attentive desk staff.

Very nice modern hotel. Swimming-pool is really a bonus after a long day visiting Rome (except its closure, 7PM, a little bit too early I think). Breakfast is perfectly correct for such an hotel. We tried the restaurant only once, and that was very good, with a perfect service (english speaking, french speaking,...). Rooms are comfortable, bathroom clean & correctly equipped. Only negative point: the surroundings of the hotel are not very nice and don't look very safe. But the hotel is secure.

Our experience was marred by some of the rude or arrogant employees at the desk and at the restaurant. One of the waiters in the evening flatly refused a polite request to slightly chill our bottle of red wine, and when we threatened to leave assigned someone else to our table (which was fine with us!). Giuseppe and Angelo at the desk were wonderful, and we would like to compliment them on their cordiality and helpfulness. Also, our room was over the dining area and we were awakened around 6:30 every morning by scraping of chairs as the tables were set up.

The hotel was the most spacious of any I've stayed at in Europe. I could actually take a shower without bumping into the walls and doors! The Jolly is a quality hotel at a very good price - comparable to much smaller hotels with less amenities. The lobby is fairly "old-fashioned" but meticulously kept, comfortable and roomy. The only complaint was that the Venere information seemed to indicate Wireless was available (in the rooms), however, it was only installed in the lobby and at a prohibitively expensive price (over 15 Euros for 2.5 hours - no 24-hour rate at all!) That's the highest price I've ever seen; especially for 2007, when most hotels offer it free.

We booked this hotel two days before we were due to arrive in Rome. We loved the fact that a lot of the staff spoke English. They were very helpful when it came to planning where to go, the best way to get there and the best time to go. We would definitely stay here again.

Firts of all Thank you Venere.com. I traveled 3 weeks in Italy with my wife and our two kids (13 & 16 years old) and lived at hotels provided by your site which were exactly as advertised. No bad surprises ! If you are like me(2 Kids + car) and come by a HOT summer in Roma I strongly recommend this Hotel. Modern and well equipped. Outside the center but very well located (20 mn by foot to S Peters), bus stop next to the door which leads you right in the city center. Leave your car at the free parking to visit. Take a plunge into the swimming pool on the hot summer afternoons. Lunch or dine along it (good food, fair prices for the quality, some mixed grills very affordable (15 euros). And for the kids there is even a MC Donald 5 mn away (yes SHAME on them !). One only drawback : the place is not easy to find the first time on driving by yourself !

Got exactly the room we asked for. Linen changed very frequently. Very handily placed for town. Food rather expensive - we would have liked to have eaten at the hotel more

We stayed at this hotel one night after touring the Tuscany region for 2 weeks. We arrived about 1:30 pm in the afternoon, with the intent of touring the Catacombs later in the day. The hotel staff managed to get us on a tour of this place and a host of other sites at the last minute by making a quick series of phone calls. IN addition they handled the return of the rental car for me so I didn't have to take it back to the airport. Then Guisseppe made a dinner reservation for us at a wonderful place about 15 minutes from the hotel (by foot), that featured some of the best food I've ever eaten. I found the rooms, the service, and pricing of this hotel to be a very pleasant surprise, with the emphasis on service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on travel through Rome.

Friendly Staff - The reception staff all spoke English, but some of them would let you practice Italian with them. The wait staff was sometimes slow by U.S. standards, but they were always friendly. The wait staff did not all speak English, and so you would need to speak a little Italian with them, which was fun; They were always kind and patient when you tried to order in Italian. Great Location! Via Gregorio VII is very close to the hotel, and if you follow Via Gregorio for a 20 minute walk, you will find yourself near St Peter's Basilica, the Square, and the Vatican. Hotel is also near a grocery store, where we bought Espresso beans/grinds, Italian chocolate, and Biscotti for our trip home. Since we stayed at the hotel at the end of our trip to Italy, we needed a ride back to the airport (FCO). The hotel reception staff arranged for a Mini-Bus for the six of us for 65 Euro. Not bad for a private Mini-Bus for six people and our luggage. We would stay at the Jolly Villa Carpegna again.

We had high hopes from this hotel after a period of travelling- intended on having a swim, getting room service and relaxing. The property was difficult to find and not clearly marked on the map at all. On arrival at the hotel, the employees were rude and unwelcoming. They treated us terribly and was definately not value for money. I would not recommend this property.

The only problem I had was with the reception staff. Contrary to the directory of services displayed in the room, they refused to book railway tickets, and were unable (or unwilling) to provide an adaptor plug when requested.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Villa Carpegna. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our children, 13 and 9 made full use of the smimming pool, however you need to be quick if you want to use one of the few sunbeds !! Approximately 30 minutes walk from the vatican and the major sites, the only drawback being a lack of restaurants in close proximity of the hotel, which can be a bit pricey. Overall, an enjoyable stay and would recommend the hotel as a nice peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the City.

There should be signs in the hallways by the elevators pointing the way to the pool and which elevator takes you down there. I saw people; and our selves, going through the lobby to go to the pool.

The hotel could be compared to a Marriott/Holiday Inn type hotel. The rooms are of business class quality. Tea and coffee making facilities could have been included. Rooms are air conditioned and exceptionally clean. En-suite included bath and shower. Location was within a 20 minute walk of the Vatican City. Regular bus service to the centre of Rome. Restaurant meals were very high quality at a reasonable price. Breakfast buffet was included in the room rate and was vey good with an excellent choice.

When we first arrived at the hotel the room was not made. The staff was not all that friendly. The area was close to the vatican within walking distance. For being a 4 star hotel I personally would give them a 2 at most due to their level of service. When asked for directions we were mislead a couple of times and was very unclear and not precise. One good point with the hotel was the continental breakfast was filling.

The hotel and facilities were very nice-better than I expected. Great service, clean, new and included breakfast. The location was not exactly as reported. The walk to the Vatican was farther than told (25-30 minutes), and the bus line that was nearby only ran to certain parts of Rome.

Although a bit far from City Center (bus is close-by),it is a NICE HOTEL (and free parking)! Related to the price I paid through "Venere", it was the best deal in Rome ! I will check it again next time (as the sandard prices are much much higher)

This hotel provided by far the best accomodations during our two week stay in Italy! The rooms were superb (clean, spacious, and inviting), but most impressive was the service given by the staff--professional, friendly, and extremely helpful! Although not located within walking distance from the Trevi Fountain, Vatican, and Spanish stairs, it is totally accessible by the bus system. Without reservation, I strongly recommend this hotel.

BY FAR, the best Quality/Price ratio we booked during our 2-week italian journey (9 different 3-star hotels). This relatively modern hotel is a 10-min bus ride (which we never figured how to pay) from the center of Rome. Parking was FREE, the quiet pool was very welcoming after a long day walking and get up early and you'll find scrambled eggs for breakfast. A bit tricky to get there (we were driving) for the first time but it could've been because we didn't have a great map. Staff was very helpful at putting us in contact with Visa/MC after a wallet was stolen during a crowded bus ride (most were speaknig english or french). The hotel surroundings don't offer much in terms of restaurants and none were opened on Sunday night...we ended up eating at the hotel where the service was excellent, food was very good and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. Wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else on a future visit.

Great Hotel, supermarket down around the corner, as are the busses to central Rome. For the money we paid and the ability to catch the buses, this was the best Hotel we stayed in, for an entire stay in Italy. Clean, a pool and great food - hard to find a hotel in Italy that has all this. We will be going back.

Booked the day before. £25/ppn (3 couples). Very hot (43Deg) so pool was very useful. Closeness to center great for sightseeing. 2 minute walk to main bus stop, 5-10 minute bus to all major attractions. Vatican City 20-25 min walk. Rooms typical of newly built hotel. Staff (that could speek English) excellent. Good resturant recommendations "L'Antica Griglia Toscana". 86-90 Via Dei Gracchi. Downside - drinks a little expensive. Watchout for the Taxi drivers, although metered, they will try every trick, including lots of unjustifable extras, not resetting the meter when you get in etc etc, I would use the buses only if I went again.
