As usual in Amsterdam, prices are high and rooms are very small. Our room was righ next to the elevator (noisy) and had a view directly to a wall. The water pressure of the showers in the whole building is a disgrace. Wireless is 10€ a day or 5€ an hour, but you can ask for a free 15min voucher to access the PC in their computer room. You get free instant coffee, but unfortunately the room service forgot to refill it on the last day (when we needed it most). From the webpage, we got the impression that the hotel is in a nice old building, but it is not (take a look a Google Streeview). Next time, I will book earlier and go to another hotel.

staffs there are young and full of engery. Nice and with good sense of humor. Must re-visit again. I especially love my room for the cafe area with large window to see the pass-by in the morning while enjoying my coffee.

Very central & convenient location just next to the Flower Market and shopping district. Was very pleased to be upgraded to a junior suite on top floor with balcony, although I checked-in very late in the evening. Very friendly front-desk staff. Overall an almost perfect stay, the only minor side being the pricey breakfast, which I skipped after first day and opted for many other excellent opportunities within very short walking distance. Also, fewer italian channels on room TV would be appreciated, due to the fact that property used to belong to Italian Jolly Hotels chain.

The hotel is still very nice, maybe a bit old but our room was almost perfect. The price is very good for the position and the quality of the hotel, we paid just 120 per night. There are a couple of disco on the backyard of the hotel, so a bit of noise.

The lobby is very nice, and the staff was friendly. Check in was easy. The room was large with a seperate kitchen with a stove, microwave and fridge. Our room had a view of the street in front of the hotel-and there was NO street noise. The bed was good size (I'm over 6') but there was no bedframe. It was a murphy bed that laid on the floor, which made getting in and out like sleeping on a floor futon . We only stayed one night, and the location of the hotel was within walking distance to shops and sites. Breakfast was pretty decent with meats, pastries, cereal and the other typical fair. We'd stay again-but see if other bed options were available.

Hotel Jolly Carlton is in a fantastic location from which to explore Amsterdam, flower market around the corner, shopping streets two minutes walk from the hotel, all the museums, Anne Franks house, canal cruise boats, literally ten to fifteen minutes walk in different directions. Lovely restaurents to be found if you head out from right from the lobby, take a right and straight down the street.

The Jolly is located in a great area, I did not have any issue with noise and the front desk staff was wonderful, very kind and always made a point of making eye contact and saying hello. For the price you simply can't beat the Jolly.

The bed in the room we were given initially sagged in the middle and we requested a change of accommodation. Staff responded promptly and the substitute room was excellent. Breakfast was expensive and most restaurants in the immediate area did not open early but we did find very reasonably priced alternatives on Damrak, a short tram ride (or a fifteen minute walk) away. The hotel has a good location and most areas of interest are easily reached on foot or by tram.

A great hotel to enjoy Amsterdam. The staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were quiet and clean. This is the second Jolly hotel I have stayed at, the other being the Jolly St Ermins in London and I am completely happy with both hotels and the chain itself. I wouldnt hesitate to stay with them again and will actually look to jolly as a prefered chain in the future.

The hotel was excellent value and enjoyed a superb location close to many of the main sights, shopping and eating in Amsterdam. The room was clean, comfortable and of a generous size. Breakfast is expensive, but there are numerous places that serve it within five minutes of the hotel. Would certainly recommend to others.

The hotel was nice. Room is quite big. The bad thing was only that the hotel made a pre-autorisation from our card in amount more the price for the room per night. After our check out they get the exact amount for the room. Unfortunately after 11 days we still not get back deposed amount. Maybe it depend of our bank.....

Location to sites in Amsterdam was excellent. could easily walk to attractions or take the tram or canal bus. Had a room on the 5th floor. Only problem was that they were having problems with their electronic keys but staff member came quickly to help us out and rekeyed our cards quickly and there were no other problems. Housekeeping was friendly as was the staff at the front desk. Provided us with information on the area. Only room available had two single beds pushed together which was a little disappointing but we booked at the last minute, they did state this in their ad. Rooms were very clean and roomy. Showers were excellent with lots of room unlike many we had while in Italy and France. Only about a ten minute walk to the train station. Would definitely stay there again on future visits to Amsterdam.

I requested a balcony room but even having arrived at 7am was not given one. Even after asking a second time we were told they had tried to call - i do not belive this. Found one member of staff particulary unhelpful and extremly rude - for this reason scores above are low.

I've stayed at the Jolly Carlton 3 times now. This was the best experience. Previously I had booked a single room and received a rather smallish room with a worn out mattress. This time I paid a bit more for a double room and had a much nicer experience, more space, nicer bedding, worth the extra. I'd advise if you're a non-smoker to request a non-smoking room. The last time I stayed I got a smoking room and it smelled awfully of cigarettes. The location of this hotel may not appear ideal on maps, however it is in very close proximity to the Museumsplein, Vondel Park, and Leisdeplein areas (5-10 min walk from each)and it represents a great value compared to most hotels of this caliber in those particular areas.

Business
Denmark, Sep 2006
The service was very, very bad, the employees does not know anything about service. In this case price and quality does abslolutly not fit together. The Kjaerulff 1 A/S company will never use this hotel again, because of a VERY BAD service.

Excellent location, right by flower market, right in the middle of things. Room excellent.Picture of room shown was of a De-Lux, When hotel confirmed it was of a Std room. when I questioned this with Venere i didnt get a response , however the room supplied was the De-lux type identical to picture on site. So nice surprise..... Room facilities excellent plenty of room, quite so that a good nights sleep was had. Would stay again definately... 1 minor prob Tea/Coffee they wern't generous, in fact we had to request extra coffee be sent up cos they didnt replace after the 1st day.

I enjoyed the stay at the Jolly Carlton. The photo of the exterior looks a little more impressive in the site and in person. The staff were quite nice and welcoming. I was a little annoyed however with one thing. I booked a double room through Venere over one month in advance. I found that the hotel had given me a room with two single beds pushed together. I was not happy with this as I'd specifically booked a double. I enquired at the desk. They told me that they were not aware that I'd booked a double and hinted that they'd not received all of the details. I was confident that Venere had sent the details. There were no true double rooms available immediately but one was being cleaned. They hotel minded our bags whilst we walked around the city for an hour or so. When we returned the double was ready. The room was much nicer than the first room and the bed was a real double. I'm unsure why this hotel thinks that two singles will do for a double room. Obviously the hotel knew that I was coming as part of a couple (because they pushed the two single beds together) so I know they received the details from Venere. I'd like the hotel to know that this is not really suitable. The final bill was higher than the quoted price but I was prepared for this because of the reviews on this site. The hotel adds a city tax or something. It's not significant but it's good to be aware. Overall I'd recommend this hotel. They staff were nice and quite professional and the (2nd) room was of a relatively high standard. We had a good time here and this hotel is very central. Just if you want a real double bed (and not two singles) perhaps you may want to email the hotel to ensure that this happens (;

I requested a room with a view, and a balcony or a terrace as Rooms & Prices page says "Rooms with view available upon request". I got response from Jolly Carton by email "We will make a note of your request". We got there and once we open the door of our room. I was so surprised because the window seems blocked by something. I got by the window and found out there are some kind of building blocking out view completely. We are very disappointed. Not just we didn't get any of our request but worst view ever... Some of them already complain but 5% of city tax is not included in their quote!

Excellent location but overall atmosphere a bit stuffy - modern, spacious but souless hotel. Not complaining, but Amsterdam is so atmospheric is seems out of step to stay in such a generic place. Very clean and comfortable though and the location is very central and buzzy . Two gripes are (a) the mini bar - it's ridiculously overpriced and computerised so that if you move an item from its place it is registered as having been consumed! and (b) we were charged an additional 5% tax on our bill even though our Venere confirmation stated that the quoted price was the 'total due'. Hurrumph.

We were given a deluxe suite even though we only booked a standard. This was nice of course but it seemed as though it was because there were no standards left. The receptionist seemed to expect us to be really impressed (maybe becaue we were backpacking) but I thought the room was too noisy with the heater on and too cold without it. When we asked to stay a second night we were told the price would be much higher even for a standard. We were told the deluxe was worth 300euro a night. I would have been very disappointed had I paid that.

I have seldom been so disappointed. The rooms was so small and we were told that it was the only size room available. On the website we were told that there was a jacuzzi/whirlpool bath. At the hotel we were told that these baths were all removed because of 'Salmonella'. The attitude of the staff was 'Take it or leave it'. Not recommended for business people who expect more. The 'special rate' was not special considering what was provided.
