The delightful Alsace Wine Route runs across rolling hillsides and through pretty villages with narrow streets of half-timbered houses and flower-decked balconies. Only a few miles away from Rouffach and the Château D'Isenbourg, is Colmar, once home of Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty. The capital of Alsatian wines boasts well-preserved old colored houses in German Gothic and early Renaissance style, as well as a number of old churches.
