The farm house itself is located in a small village, Arco da Calheta, on the west coast of the island, just outside Calheta. Both Calheta Beach and the mountains around Rabaçal are within easy reach of this enchanting farm house, which is perched on the rock face looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

Ideal for those who want to be in close contact with nature, the Casa do Calhau Grande Farm house is divided into 6 apartments, which give you all of the comfort of staying in the your own home as well as being surrounded by Madeira's stunning countryside and coastline. Staying here you can prepare your meals with local farmer's produce, bought at the nearby market, and explore the island's beautiful coastline or the Laurissilva Forest further inland.

There is a swimming pool in the grounds and to assist you in your adventures, you can rent a bike from the management as well as walking sticks and rain coats. Free wireless Internet access is also available for those who just cannot go on holiday without their laptop too. Please remember that credit cards are not an accepted form of payment.

All hot water is heated by solar power and the owners have used local natural materials in renovating the building. They also promote such environmentally sound practices as energy saving and recycling.

There are 2 studios apartments called Tenda House and Palheiro House, which has a double bed suitable for 2 people, a kitchenette, living room, private entrance and a barbecue. There are also 2 one-bedroom apartments for 4 people, called Levada House and Júnior House, each of which as a double bed, a living room and kitchenette, a sofa bed, private bathroom and a private garden.

Sleeping 5 to 6 people, the two-bedroom apartments Calhau House and Sapateiro House are ideal for families. Calhau is spread over 2 storeys and has a sitting room, kitchen, covered porch and barbecue on the ground floor and 2 bedrooms on the upper floor, one of which has a balcony. Sapateiro features a large living room, shared bathroom, kitchen on the ground floor plus a private entrance and garden, and 2 en suite bedrooms upstairs, one of which has its own balcony.

From Madeira International Airport: on leaving the airport, following to road towards Arco da Calheta. At the roundabout, follow the indications for Ledo. Turn left at the first intersection on the Rocha de Gouveia Road. Approx. 1 km/0.6 miles later, turn right on the road towards Massapez and continue until you reach the Calhau Casa Grande.
