The apartment was very new, clean, spacious and welcoming. However each bedroom could have benefited with extra storage space for cloths,eg chest of drawers and Bedroom that overlooked the bar opposite was very noisy until around 2am. The breakfast room at the main hotel could have been bigger to avoid queues. But overall apart from the TV not working which did not effect our holiday we had a very good and enjoyable time. Thanks.

We were staying at Locanda Al Leone in October 2008. Very cute small family hotel. The staff was helpful (speaking English and French)even offering tickets for evening performances. Location is excellent - just a few minutes walking to San Marco Square. Breakfast is very poor as everywhere in Venice. Rooms are clean and tidy, featly decorated with Venetian style furniture. We took a "triple"room and it was spacios enough. I recommend it for a short stay in Venice as an easy reachable place(no stairs while you're going from the vaporetto station to the hotel with your suitcases) in the heart of the attractions quarter.

We were in the room next to the breakfast room, which made mornings a little bit noisy. Other than that, location and rooms were superb!

We arrived at night and thankfully the awning was down or we probably would have never found the hotel. The hotel is located on Albansesi. This is a narrow alley. Entrance to the hotel was by ringing in. The room was decorated as per the photos. The bathroom in our room was large and spacious and had a hair dryer. Linens on the bed, and in our bathroom were changed daily. Our room had a small balcony with a small table and two chairs. We stayed here two nights. There was air conditioning in the room. The breakfast room is small and the breakfast is rolls, coffee and cereal and juice. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with problems climbing stairs as there were about 50 to get to our room alone. It is very close to San Marco Square, and also San Zaccaria ACTV water bus stop which we found very convienient. There are a number of restaurants close by that offer a good variety of food as well as seafood. There is also an internet facility near the hotel.

We have been in room 34 with a very nice and private balcony. Everything was confortable and we had a perfect honey moon there! We did meet a couple a very nice olders, but mainly we stayed alone just to enjoy our privacy. We will come back for sure, may be in our anniversary. Thanks to everybody, an excellent and helpful service!

Everything was great except for the stairs. Beware if you have big luggages. You have to carry them on top of more than 20 narrow stairs.

Locanda al Leon has an amazing location. Close to nice restaurants (where they serve a meter of small pizza's with different toppings!) and a 5 minute walk from San Marco square. Even though the square next to the hotel can be bussy, there was no noise whatsoever in the room that we stayed in. Shower does not leak, room was spacious and decorated in beautifull Venetian style. Free breakfast in bed. 24-hour reception, but we also got a key so we could enter through the backdoor. We had a wonderful stay! (in room 31)

Great little hotel within a short distance to St Marks square. Staff was very competent and professional. Lobby and stairs are crappy but rooms are good and baths are new and clean. Breakfast provided was OK as well. It is all about the location on this one!

Very good hotel, excellent location and no need to carry your lugage over a long distance as the hotel is ideally situated close to the vaporettos that take you everywhere. The only small suggestion I could offer is to add to the breakfeast something like cheese or a boiled egg , but this is no complaint !!! I would certainly recommend this place to anyone going to Venice. Regards, Chris JACOBS

Breakfast is the basic minimum continental fare - no eggs (other hotels did include eggs in menu). Hotel located centrally (use bus # 1). Entrance and reception is rather run-down, but rooms are spacious, and clean. Bathrooms were clean too. Did not face any noise problem. We travelled with an infant, and the hotel asked for extra 15 euros per night. Other hotels provide a crib for free. Overall, a good hotel for the price - we travelled in November, and got cheaper rates. Location is the biggest plus for this hotel.

If you are looking for a hotel very close to the action then it is fantastic, being only a short walk to San Marco Piazza. The rooms are small but very clean and breakfast is the standard continental. Our room looked out onto the small plaza near the hotel which meant that it was necessary to close the shutters and windows to ensure a quiet stay as people are moving around very early and late into the night. If you are a budget traveller be aware that it is in the heart of the tourist district so if you are trying to get away from the hoardes (and their associated restaurants, prices, etc) then maybe try a place further out. Having said that we definitely enjoyed the convenience and hospitality of Locanda al Leon.

This was a wonderful quaint hotel. The people at the front desk were friendly and very helpful. The bathroom was a bit small, but clean and neat. Breakfast was small, no meat/cheese/panini offered. I would recommend staying at Locanda al Leon 2. Very close to St. Mark's square and grand canal.

Excellent hotel, however the instruction on how to get to the hotel on the venere website are completely wrong! Take the Alliguna water ferry and get off at the Zacarria stop. From there it is a very short trip into an alley/street that leads to the hotel. Don't get off at S. Marco like the venere website says or else you will have to cut through piazza san marco, traverse serveral crowded tourist alleys and 2 bridges. There is also some confusion between "Locanda al Leon" and "Locanda al Leon 2". They are both the same hotel. I don't know why venere lists it under a different name. The hotel is literrally 3 mins walk from Piazza San Marco.

Make sure that you don't miss the Locanda at Leon 2 while walking to it - it's just before you get to the square where streets go in every direction (as it happens in most squares in Venice). The place was friendly and welcoming. The rooms clean and quiet (we got one next to the square and during carnivale season and slept throught the night with no problems). Breakfast was good. In terms of distance to St Mark's, it's only a narrow street and a bridge away - if you walk slow only 5 minutes (and that's exagerating!). It's close to both internet, laundry and a pizzeria (and the vaporetto!). Perfect!

Locanda was a very nice hotel to stay at. Especially the great location is a plus. The owners are very nice, friendly and willing to help. Rooms are clean are bigger than expected. All in all, we don't have any complaints and we highly recommand this hotel to other tourists too!! Next time we go to Venice, I bet you know where we are going to stay...

We stayed at Al Leon for 4 nights, and would certaily return. Room was very clean and tidy excellent bathroom and shower - room could have been a bit larger but non the less ok for our needs. We used the hotel as a base from which to explore, therefore it was just ideal. Previous reviews had stated a small breakfast area in the hall - this seems to have moved, as we took breakfast each day in a small but delightful room, very clean and cosy, gave us the chance to meet fellow guests and the breakfast was simple but adequate. The owners and all their staff were very welcoming and helpful, the day of our departure we had an early start 5.30am to get the Ryanair flight at 9.50am but this was not a problem, we had an early morning call and the young man on desk duty helped us out with our cases and directed us to the correct boat stop. All in all I would reccomend Al Leon for people who, like us want a good value - clean ! comfortable and welcoming place to stay, whilst visiting Venice. Thank you to all at Al Leon, we will be back.

My stay at Locanda at Leon was a bad experience. I booked three nights. The day I arrived, I was told that there was a problem with my room because of a sick traveler. So, for my first night, theys acommodated me at another hotel, which I did not like at all. For, the rest of the nights I was accommodated at Locanda al Leon. The rooms are nice but bed was not very clean. I think that the best thing of Locanda al Leon is breakfast. It is served by a very nice lady. At the end of the stay, we came to pay. The system were asking me for a pin, which I did know because I was never asked to know it. Owner was not very nice, probably he was thinking that I had no other way to pay my bill. Finally, they used another system which worked without a pin number. I would never stay at this place again.
