Quiet. People who stay short term like 1 to 2 nights. The steps could be difficult for older people to climb. Thank you for taking our luggage to the room and taking it down for us. We really appreciated it. Too bad there isn't a way to take the luggage to the water taxi. We enjoyed the 1 night stay and the staff was very friendly.

Lanterna di Marco Polo is a great B&B to stay at as it is central to St. Macro Square, Doges Place, Rialto Bridge and more as easy access to this B&B from the Rialto Vaporetto stop. Our stay was 4 nights from September 15 through to the 19th and I cannot say enough about this place and the owners. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, but what really impressed us were the owners Guido & Riccardo who are gentlemen through and through, not only do they make you feel at home but they make you feel like you are family. They both are very helpful and knowledgeable and great with directions. I have to say Grazie to both Guido & Riccardo who went out of their way to help us when my son needed medical attention by assisting to reach a doctor, took us to the doctor and then came to pick us up to return back to the B&B as their concern for my son’s health was true and heart felt. To both Guido & Riccardo Grazie, Grazie I would recommend that you stay with Guido & Riccardo at “Lanterna di Marco Polo” as this is an "A" class establishment and I wish you both the best in future endeavors. Ciao Lesa & Derek Maksymchuk

Great location around halfway between Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. Easy to find by directions given by owners who were very friendly and extremely helpful. We didn't pay extra for a late arrival - I notified them in advance and the key was there ready for us. Room was very clean, spacious enough for us and quiet until a lady with big boots arrived to stay in the room above ours. Any outside noise is fairly effectively blocked by windows and shutters. Stairs may be a challenge if you have walking difficulties but then you'll probably find most of Venice a challenge. Would definitely stay here again.

My mom and I stayed at the hotel for a day and it was low season so I don't know how the prices will be in high seasons but for us it was PERFECT...it is located 1 min to the vaporeto station and the Rialto bridge and 5 minutes to San Marco square. The room and everything was clean and the decoration was acceptable so it was more than we could ask for such a low price!!! the only bad thing is there is not lift (so take that into consideration if you have heavy luggage, for us was not a problem at all) and the recepcionist is there only until 5pm but this is just to point out something since what really matters in a hotel was good value for money!! I will come back to this hotel if I go back to Venice but I will check the prices first, I don't know if I will get such a bargain again!

We stayed for 3 nights. The location is EXCELLENT! Cannot be better. You should email for the specific direction, otherwise you won't find it. The building and room are old, no lift, the steps are not standard size, too short for a full step. The carpet is old, but bed is comfortable, sheet and towel are clean. Breakfast is better than nothing. However, the excellent location outweighs everything.

A four letter word "hate" This hotel was an overpriced, unclean property with very poor help from the staff. I had to leave a day early because of a strike of vaoretto operation and did not know when I would be able to get out of venice. There was no help nor understanding and all I heard is it was the hotel policy to charge for the room under any circumstances. I was given very poor directions as to how to get to the hotel and had to manage my luggage up and down the Rialto bridge when I could have reached it without killing myself. Run, don't walk away from this terrible place. ' '

4th floor without lift, you do not know it before arriving, bad and dangerous stairs to go up with the luggage. You are asked to pay in cash because the machine does not work but it is an excuse because it is out of work for months. Besides, they ask you to pay in advance when you arrive at the hotel. The breakfast very poor. If you arrive after 6 p.m. the reception is closed, you have to go to another place to pick the keys up and you are charged 10 euros. They do not clean under the bed, there was a bottle and a hair pin and they were not ours. The recepcionist answers all your questions kindly and help you with transport and maps

We had booked a different hotel in Venice originally, but this was cancelled (not by us) at the 11th hour, and we had to make alternative arrangements fast. July is very busy in venice, and the hotels within our price range were rapidly filling up. Four days before we flew, we booked our stay at this hotel, and we were not disappointed. The welcome we received on our arrival was lovely, and the room we were allocated was on the very top floor (up several steep flights of stairs) but had the advantage of having a rooftop patio. We were able to sit out there whenever we wanted, and from there we could see the Campanile and the domes of the Basilica. The room was a little on the small size, but was not uncomfortably so. Breakfast wasn't the best we've had, but adequate. All things considered, we consider that we got value for money at this hotel, it was very centrally located, clean, pleasant and friendly, and we would recommend it to others.

The hotel should have flyscreens in the windows and the heated towel rack should not be so close to the toilet. It should be able to be turned off. Softer towels to wash face with instead of very hard napkins. Air conditioner and heater should both be able to be accessed at all times.Bathroom is too small. Carpets are a little dirty. The safe should be available and WORKING during the stay. The wardrobe is quite spacious. The mini bar should more visible (it looks like part of the desk)The stairs are quite steep and a little squishy.

Positive aspects: neat double room with AC at a very good location of Venice, at stone's throw from Rialto Bridge. Negative aspects: very small bathroom that would need some immediate attention in terms of fixing broken floor tiles and a loose shelf above the sink, room claimed to be on the third floor whereas in reality at least the fifth with incredibly steep stairs, and last but not least the hotel could rightfully take pride in serving the poorest breakfast ever.

Room 1 where we stayed is compact to say the least. However, for location the hotel canot be faulted. The Rialto bridge and its Vaporetto stop are a two minute walk and St Marks is a five to ten minute stroll. Like everything else in Venice, the prices are higher than you might find elsewhere for a comparable standard, but we had a very agreeable stay at this hotel.

Hotel Lanterna di Marco Polo charges 10 euros for late arrival (after 18.00) which we found unfair, mostly because of the fact that this is not communicated in advance. Breakfast is also quite poor. Nevertheless, location is terrific and the room authentically Venice style decorated!

A great little hotel! Very friendly staff; I got an email within 12 hours giving me very detailed directions on how to get there (very useful in this confusing city). They were prompt to respond to all emails and the receptionists were very helpful. The room was well furnished, but small (compared to US rooms, normal for European rooms). There is no elevator, but the building is old, so it is expected. The room was very clean, and the public areas were as well. Breakfast was fruit, cereal, breads, cheese, and coffee. The location is excellent: very close to Rialto and San Marco. I would definitely stay here again.

Good stay at the Lanterne di Marco Polo. Comfortable, clean room with beds for 4 of us, so not much other available space. Minibar was useful after our late arrival when we needed refreshments. Breakfast adequate, but space didn't really allow for any more variety. Great location. Good for early morning forays into the city before the masses arrived. Late arrival via the neighbouring hotel went without a hitch, following previous notification. All satisfied. Good stay, thank you.

Travelled in a group of 4, so we took two rooms. Location is excellent, just between the Rialto and St Mark's Square (and this is the area that stays lively through the night, so you can go out at night and feel safe coming home). The receptionist works only in the day though and we didn't have much contact with her. Really nice little hotel near the center of everything in Venice. One of the best deals that I found, considering the high prices for hotels normally in Venice. The hotel even had some character, which I found to be a nice touch. It might be hard to find from the map provided so use google map or something to map out the area. The hotel was really nice, but the shower, like most other showers in Europe, is extremely small. Hotel gave us one of those home away form home feels. Their breakfast is kind of lacking, but adequate. A lot of stairs, I was up at the 4th floor, so request for one of the lower floors if possible. For the price I paid, and for the location and the character of the hotel, it was definitely one of the best deals. Oh yeah, make sure you check in before 4pm, because there is no one there afterwards. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel after we checked-out because our train out of Venice was not till much later, which is good.

Location good; right in the heart of Venice. We were greeted by a very nice receptionist. She had set out cookies, chocolates and tea. Up 3 flights of tiny stairs to room #5. Bed for third person about 12 inches off the ground but OK otherwise. The big problem for us was that the office closed at 4pm (Easter Sunday) and our air conditioner did not work. That meant we had to open our window to get air. An annoying mosquito and noisy people outside kept us awake; then the next day we had bites, we think from bedbugs (they were not mosquito bites and they didn't itch). We had to leave for our return trip before breakfast started Monday morning at 8am so don't know how that would have been.

This is my third visit to Lanterna Di Marco Pollo in the last four years. When I returned this summer for my most recent visit,it was just like visiting old friends. The owner Francesca and her staff are always friendly and helpfull which is the reason I continue to return to this hotel each time I am in the area. On this most recent visit I looked forward to seeing Francesca and the staff at the great little cafe just next door as much as seeing Venice itself. It is also in very close proximity to everthing in Venice. I would recomend to anyone who wants an authentic Venitian expierience to stay with Francesca at the Laterna Di Marco Polo. Have a glass of wine before dinner or at lunch with a slice of pizza or a pannini at the cafe next door for just a few euro. These are great people. When I think of Venice, I think of Lanterna di Marco Polo. Congradulations Francesca....My wife and I will be thinking of you and your new baby this Christmas. What a gift! Karen loved the cookies. I really enjoyed this inn. The breakfast area was cozy and offered enough choice to get started. The location made it an easy walk from Rialto and Piazza San Marco. From the Rialto ferry it was only 2-3 minute walk. The walk to San Marco was even easier (as you're not carrying luggage). The only word of warning is the lack of an elevator. It's a 14th century building with extra space for an elevator. There is room to store luggage downstairs if your train/flight leaves later in the day. Rooms were clean and nicely appointed. There was enough space to feel comfortable with the twin setup and the bathroom was decently sized as well. I'd definitely stay here again.

Saludos.

I recommend this hotel for its central place in the city. Ideal location at just 3 mn from Rialto bridge or St Marco Place. Good reception from the staff. Room clean. The ratio quality/price is good regarding the location but on our experience this hotel is intermediate between a 2* and 3* category. We had a very pleasant stay in this charming city.

Sorry I haven't done this sooner, been over a year. Anyways we loved this hotel. The location was excellent, so close to the Rialto Bridge. Great street side eateries as well. Pannini sandwhiches are the best!!! The staff goes out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Very great place to stay! Yes the staircase is narrow and steep, but c'mon this is Venice the place is an island, can't grow out, have to go up.

The place was comfortable, well located, quiet, clean. We were very upset because they charged 3 nights in our credit card at 13:00 h, before our arrival, even though we had warned them by e-mail (and in the reservation in Venere) that we were arriving at 22:00 h. The contract with Venere explicitly stated that the hotel was not allowed to do this. We intended to pay the entire stay in cash but the person in charge adopted a highly unfriendly attitude

prices vary too much: 79 Euro last year, between 69 and 99 Euro this year. Breakfast not very attractive. Position ideal, rooms fairly comfortable and neat. Ideal for people who don`t stay long and want to be in the centre within walking distance to the most interesting sights.

A delightful stay of a week. Good breakfast. Good suggestions by the staff as to how to go about visiting Venice. We got even a free map of the city. The room was very comfortable and clean. The shower a bit narrow for a large- shouldered person. It was occasionally difficult to keep the water of the shower evenly hot, but it wasn't in any way a problem. Christine Baillieux

Overall was no bad, but little bit expensive (155 euro)for a small room, very very small bathroom, poor breakfast and no lift: our room was on the 5th floor.

Francesca, the owner, was a magnificent host. She gave us excellent restaurant advice. She phoned and then e-mailed our next hotel and talked them into allowing us to cancel the final night of our reservation because of a change in plans. At first they were reluctant to allow us to cancel, but she talked them into it! Rooms at Lanterna di Marco Polo were on small side but clean and nicely decorated.

We were three mature adults and the room was very cramped. Space is obviously a precious commodity in Venice - but it would have been good to have known that the size of the rooms did not really match the needs of three adults. It would have been fine for two adults.

This hotel is very clean & the staff is quite pleasant. At this time, travel to Italy remains quite expensive which is why I gave a low rating for price/quality. Also: construction was going on next door & when we opened our shutters, only scaffolding covered with a white construction drape was all that we could see. We did not care for the plug-in air fresheners.

Francesca and staff were very knowledgeable and helpful -- we exchanged several emails before arrival. Great location. Room quaint, and good-sized. Extremely clean property. Breakfast could use additional items, but was adequate. No elevator/lift (not mentioned anywhere), could be a problem for some quests -- we were on 5th floor and had heavy bags! We arrived after 1800 and needed to pick up key at another nearby hotel -- slight inconvenience, but no problem. Good value for area -- would stay again, and recommend to friends.

Nice hotel in very good location for Rialto and San Marco. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was good size, clean and comfortable although it was situated on the top floor so the walk up the stairs with all our luggage was a bit unexpected. The hotel was quite expensive compared higher rated hotels in other Italian cities but overall good value for money in Venice where everything is comparatively expensive. I would stay here again and recommend to friends.

The staff was wonderful and e-mailed me comprehensive directions and other instructions when the room was confirmed. The room was small but well laid out, quiet, and clean. If you can't do steps, then this may not be for you because there is no elevator. But if you want a nice room for a reasonable price with an enthusiastic staff, then stay here.

The room was so small. I was not expecting to be in a room that use to be the attic. Our room was actually in a finished out attic, was very small, uncomfortable bed and the TV did not work. Not worth the money for the type of environment.

It is right in the centre and easy to get to from the Rialto water bus station. We stayed for 2 nights. You can always find your way back to the hotel by following either 'per Rialto' or 'per San Marco' signs. Hotel kindly emailed me a very detailed and helpful instruction on how to get to the hotel. Staff were very helpful but not intrusive. Space is in short supply but I don't think you can expect more considering the location. Cons: at breakfast tea/coffee etc. were dispensed by a machine, which was not entirely satisfactory. As a tea drinker I had to have several goes before clean hot water came out unspoiled by coffee residue. The shower temperature control was somewhat erratic.

The hotel is in a superb location, really central for everything and fairly quiet. Staff were very accommodating and helpful. The room we had was tiny, only just enough room to walk around the bed. There is also no lift. Breakfast was also very busy as there were only 6-8 seats and more than 8 people were staying at the hotel. We took our breakfast back to our room. Price wise, not bad in comparison to Venice prices as everywhere is expensive!

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. It is in a great location just a couple of minutes from the Rialto Bridge and about 5 mins to the Square. Rooms were clean and welcoming. We were particularly impressed by the email correspondance with the owner once we made the reservation. They couldn't have been more helpful and gave very clear directions to find them from the airport. We would definitely go back again to this hotel.
