The Inn was comfortable, clean, and well worth the money. If one knows the way, you can reach it from the Rialto Vaporetto stop without crossing any bridges...a real plus if you have heavy luggage. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Best location in Venice. 5 blocks from P. San Marcos and 5 from Rialto. Big rooms, big and comfortable beds. Big bathroom. Only bad thing is that WIFI only works in the lobby. That should be improved. Would definitely stay in Allogi Scala again in my next trip to Venice.

Our two days in Venice at the Alloggi alla Scala were "different". The hosts/owners speak little or no English - we were greeted by what appeared to be mother and son, both of whom appeared to have had their nap interrupted. The Lobby was small and cramped and poorly decorated. Wifi was only available if you stood in the lobby. While the room was spacious and clean (good value for the money there) and the hotel centrally located, the decor left much to be desired.

The hotel has a good location and rather charming Unlike the rooms in the first floor our room (numbre 6 in the ground floor) was confortable but very small. Unfortunately we have been waked up by the door ring around midnight and an alarm around 7: AM Difficult to find easily the place : many small streets in this area and no signpost

Even though my daughter has been to Venice 5 times, she still had a hard time looking for this hotel. She had to use her navigation app in her iPhone to find the place. It was nice for the hotel to store our luggage after check out so we can go around Venice, Murano, and Burano via the water taxi. The hotel was in the city of Venice itself so it was convenient to see Venice for the first time for my husband and I.

I was ovly 3 days in Venice in this hotel. Most of all I like its location and the price was lowest for the same condition of other hotels. But I was unsatisfied of room conditions: bedclothes was ok, but towels, cover, furniture was very old. Faucet in the shower was leaking.

Almost impossible to find! If you want to make sure not to start the vacation in despair, maybe you choose something more easily findable. It is very unvisible and you will have no signs of it nowhere. And not only you have to find it once, but every time you step out of the Alloggi... The lady in reception was nice and we managed to communicate both in English and in Italian. The room was something I expected. Pretty clean, but full of furniture and I did not want to lay my bags or clothes to sofa or chairs... Got that feeling. I wish one day all over Italy the sheets under the blankets would be replaced with duvet cover and bidets with bidet showers. How very uncomfortable life can be otherwise. The Alloggi is pretty ok and location is basically fine, except labyrinth features. No breakfast, but that was no problem. Cafeterias can be found in Venice. There was a coffee, chocolate etc being sold in the reception area. Wi-Fi was available in the reception area, not in our room. Soundproof is as expected i.e. pretty non-existant. Important! Allogi is in the map in the same location as "Pal. Contarini d. Bovolo". In the middle of San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. Takes a while to find it. Give it some time and make sure your blood sugar is not down... ;)

The location of this venetian town house is amazing right next to the Scala Contarini del Bovolo although from the outside its looks a bit tired the welcome was good and the service excellent we had views of the canal and had gondolas passing the window , the rooms are very venetian and a good standard of bathroom although as they can't serve breakfast I would take your own kettle! Venice exceeded my expectations and Murano island is well worth a boat trip to visit. It can be a bit noisy during the night with deliveries on the canal or people visiting the Scala one group at 5am?? I would definitely recommend it.

The staff of this cozy hotel is very friendly and flexible. Hotel is kind of old with older furniture, but at the same time it gives a very good flavor of how people live in the heart of Venice. The location is outstanding and if you stay in room number 5, you see the Gonolas pass by the room!! is there a better way to visit Venice?

Hotel was in a great location and quiet - except for the mornings when loud footsteps were heard overhead and when the cleaning crew was loudly talking in the hall. Oh, and bring your own toiletries because they don't have any (not a big deal, but good to know). Besides that, great stay. Also, took a credit card, which was nice on the cash flow!

NO SOAP, NO SHAMPOO. I don't remember the ad stating this. It took three days till the owner gave me the air conditioner control. Which she had to dig through a junk drawer to find. She said repeatedly that she likes the hot weather. I said I did not and it was very hard to sleep in the heat. The bath towels were paper thin and old, only changed once. Only ONE USABLE ELECTRIC PLUG in the room and it was over the bathroom sink. On the sheets there were small red stains like those left from bedbugs. I feel cheated! Don't stay at this place

This was a strange little place with a few small and crowded rooms in a great location. The hosts were very welcoming but the room was stuffed with upholstered furniture and draped with gold velvet everywhere. Even the doorknobs had velvet cozies on them. There was a bright street light outside the single window. But it was quiet at night and the bed was good.

Alloggi alla Scala was a great place to stay. It's right in the middle of everything, which actually makes it pretty difficult to find through the winding streets of Venice. But the staff were so friendly and helpful and my room was large and clean. The lack of wi-fi was a bit of a downer, but it wasn't a big deal. I would definitely stay here again.

Quaint inn at the heart of Venice center, just a few minutes away from San Marco and the Rialto. You get lost at first until you manage the general directions around the complicated city.. The elderly lady who owns the place and her staff were quite friendly, and let me in quickly even if I arrived late (past 1am) to check in. I got a single room which was really small but enough for a solo traveller. The private bath was sufficient as well. There is no public area like a lobby nor a kitchen so I would recommend putting a hot pot in the room for boiling water. Interestingly enough is that the inn is right next to an obscure tourist attraction, the Contarini Bolvolo but peopel still find time to visit it :) Bovolo but people still go

The property owner loves kids and did her best to make us feel comfortable. She was always there to say hi or bye ('ciao' anyway) everytime we arrived or left, and soon became a "nonna" (grandma) to my 2-year old daughter. Some evenings there was little hot water left and we had to take a shower colder than we wished. The wifi network provided by the property (since a month ago) was not functional (signal too weak). Apart from those drawbacks, the location is very good and central, which allows you to walk to virtually any place in Venice, but especially to Rialto and San Marco. Our room was quiet and clean. Good value for money, considering that every other option we found was so expensive in Venice. Definitely much better to stay here than in the outskirts, like Mestre or Marghera.

I loved my stay here! The room was outstandingly clean and the location is superb since I was with my 2 elderly parents. This was definitely the cheapest hotel I could find near St Mark's square which was not a backpacker's place. The landlady was lovely and very accommodating. Location was easy to find thanks to other reviews. Just get off at Rialto Bridge, don't cross over and simply walk to the right, with your back facing the bridge. Turn left at Calle Cavalli and walk straight till you reach Campo Manin. Take the pathway on th other side of the square, just before the bridge. There is a sign pointing towards the hotel. Just follow all the way through. Would highly reccommend this gem of a place!

Fantastic! We are a family of 4 and after reading another review we requested room 5. Great advice. It was a good sized room with a gorgeous mis-match of colours and patterns that made you feel like you were staying with your nanna. Mario and his mother (I think) spoke very little english and we spoke very little Italian, but somehow we managed to work out what needed to be worked out and have a bit of a laugh doing it - they made us feel very welcome. The location was unbeatable, just a few minutes walk from San Marco square, and the price was great - we would have paid about the same to stay at the youth hostel but then would have had to fork out E26 every time we wanted to come into the centre of venice. With good airconditioning our room was a welcome retreat in the stiffling heat of Venice in July. But the best thing about this hotel (and room 5 in particular) was the serenading from the gondoliers that went past our windows at regular intervals during the day and evening (but not, thankfully, through the night). What a treat to hang out of the window and watch the the gondoliers go by, our kids got quite a kick out of shouting 'Bravo' and getting a friendly wave from the gonolieri. A wonderful memory of Venice.

I found this very unfair!!! I told them that I was arriving eary in the morning with my mother age 84, and instead of advising me to get off of the vaporeto in Rialto and wait in nearby cafe, they sent us to San Marco and we had to walk a lot (4 times more!!) climbing brigets and stairs to got the allogio!!!!!!!!!!! they call the place a bed and breakfast but no breakfast at all, not even hot water foe a tea! well position; bad, very bad management.Best of all, Mario, the asistant of such an horrible woman!! Directions were not easy to determine. In hindsight we should have disembarked from the water taxi at Rialto Bridge rather than Piazzo san Marco. Locals could not help with directions, but we eventually discovered it down a seemingly impossibly narrow alley next to a famous landmark called Scala Contarni del Bovolo, which locals did know about. The charming landlady informed us that breakfast was impossible to arrange, contrary to the information provided. However, there were ample local establishments which could oblige.

This was a wonderul property to stay at where we were greeted the friendly proprietor who was like our grandma! The location was great by the Campo de Manin - good reference point when you're wandering the streets of Venice (as well as the Escala)! It is initially hard to find your way around Venice, so we were glad we paid the 25 euro to have our bags carted and our way found to the hotel. The room was nice and clean with a view out the window of the waterway! You will need to shut the window to get some sleep though but great ambiance! The bathroom was clean, but the shower itself was quite tiny. Overall, we loved our stay! Leon Bianco was a very nice restaurant that we would recommend.

First, it's really hard to find: I used directions I found in reviews of the hotel, and God bless those reviewers! My room was narrow as a corridor, but not oppressive because so much care had been devoted to making it nice (pretty colors and designs, good light). I realized at 4AM, hearing coughing in the next room, that it was once a big room that had been divided up. However I caught a glimpse of a double room and they were a much nicer size. The managers were unusually welcoming and helpful (I asked for an extra blanket and he brought me two; I arrived at 1 AM and she had waited up, smiling and very welcoming). No hot water in the morning! there was in the evening, but you had to let it run a while first. Bathroom brilliantly, sparkling clean. I wouldn't go again because the room's so small, but if I wanted a double room I might. The location is just fantastic, the managers really nice. In summer it would be important to make sure there's air conditioning. In November it didn't matter, however the heat worked and the room was nice and warm.

If you are looking around this price , this hotel offers you best choice. It was very difficult to locate the hotel for the first time, though address & location are given by a map. I think the easiest way from Lucia station (ferroviara)is to take No1 or No2 water bus to Rialto ( after Rialto Mercarto). Walk away in the opposte lane , with Rialto at your back towards San Marco Square for 100 Mts. Take right 30 mts to get a square ( Burger king) . Proceed further 30 mts to get another square with a statue. Take the passage near the left hand of the statue for 10 mts, then 5 mts to left , then 10 mts to the right. Even with a map it will be difficult to find. The hotel is next to an important building " Scala Contirini Del Bevelo. Any tour guide will be able to show direction.

we stayed in a double room with batchroom included. We really liked the old style, kind of reminded me of my grandparents place. The room was very large, I think we were given a 3 person room as there was an extra bed plus a sofa. It was very nice and quiet and the owner was very sweet. We were hoping for a view of the little tower but realized that that could have meant more noise as there were quite a few groups of tourists that came by to see it. The directions they have posted on their own website were very handy as there are no signs until you get to Campo Manin (square with lion sculpture) overall we had a great stay in Venice, it was well woth staying the night and enjoying the late night atmosphere especially at s. This hotel was everything we expected (it really helped to read previous comments on the site - get your bearings online first before going). The lady that greeted us was very nice and led us to our rooms. Everything was tidy and clean. We were right in the heart of Venice and we loved it. I would absolutely recommend this place and would stay there again. The only downside was there was no air conditioning (and bring your own soap) we were there Sept 3 - 5th it was quite humid. We had no trouble with noise at night (I think we were in the back near the courtyard. Our travel companions were in the front next to the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo (tourist attraction) but they only mentioned hearing a few people passing at night. The best directions are take the No. 5 city bus from the airport, if you plan to stay 24 - 72 hours get the vaporetto pass for the time period you will use it (the pass also includes the cost of the No. 5 city bus - purchase it at the Kiosk in airport). ages up to 29 yrs can purchase this pass for 1/2 price but it's also only $33 Euro full price for 72 hours and we used it several times a day definitely getting our moneys worth at $6.50 Euro per trip single fare. Taking the bus from the airport was easy. Once you get off the bus at Palazza Roma (sorry if I'm not spelling everything 100%) take the Vaporetto going to Rialto Bridge you can tell on the signs It's closest to the Ticket centre at Piazzale Roma once you get off the bus. Some Vaporettos are express and will miss certain stops so be sure to read. Once you get off the Vaporetto at the Rialto bridge walk in the same direction as the Vaporetto travels do not cross the Rialto Bridge (the water should be on your right and the bridge will be behind you). Turn left at Calle Cavalli and follow into a large square/courtyard with a statue (area known as Campo Manin). Once in the square go to the right towards the statue and you will see a yellow arrow to the Palazzo Contarini del Bovol

I am a single traveler exploring Venice. I found that Town House Suite Alloggi alla Scala is very good located - in the heart of Venice very close main attractions - 10-15 min on foot to San Marco, Realto bridge and Academia Bridge. Everything is within walk distance. Owner was very welcoming. No good English, but it didn`t seem to be a problem. My room was small but very clean. I saw other rooms - they are bigger. AC is working good. One little problem - there is no lift, so you need to carry luggage to the second floor. So probably no good for people with disabilities or who can not carry heavy things. Price was very good for this location. I would recommend this hotel and happili stop there again!

Wonderful location only a short walk from St Marks. Lovely rooms but no breakfast is included, this was not a problem for us. Check a map before you go as it is down a short alley and could easily be missed. Very convienient for popping back during the day.

We arrived in Venice at night by boat from the airport, provided with a little map that we got from mapquest. Nobody knew the hotel and therefore, the indications we received didn't work very well. After sometime looking for the property, I decided to call the madam in the hotel and she gave us exactly the location. I was surprised with her attention since it was late night (even though I have informed what time we were estimating to arrive). The lady was very gentle and the room was perfect: clean, big and the property was very well located (between San Marco and Rialto). I definitely recommend this property to other people.

I had a great stay. The location is out of the way. The room was small but well suited to the low price, given being there in high season. The alloggi is next door to the Scala Contarini del Bovolo, a Venice landmark, and the only downside was the frequent visits outside my window by tourists. The upside of that was that I became quite familiar with the history of the Scala!

The hotel is small and quiet but good and clean, with a great shower for a hot steamy Venice. A bit difficult to find, but that is true of almost anything in this city.

Great location but the rooms are terribly small. I think this place is okay to stay in for 1 night, but by the second night, the small size was a bit annoying. Also, squeezing two people onto the small double bed was a challenge. Overall, I am satisfied with our stay as it was only a couple of nights, but there are lots of other hotels in Venice so I would recommend that you check around a bit more.

This was a great hotel. I stayed in the Quadruple with my family. It was very affordable and great location. Very clean and quiet and working AC was key. Was able to fit all 4 suitcases with room to walk around the room. The closest Vaparetto stop is called Rialto (linea 1)...there is another stop called rialto mercato. We took the mercato stop by mistake when taking the vapertto and got lost. This is only a big deal when carrying your luggage around venice since its all narrow streets and small bridges. Just expect to get lost and you will be okay :)

We had the quad room, it was clean and the cheapest in Venice by far. 130 Euros per night with a 6% discount for cash. The bathroom had a shower and was a room inside the bedroom so there was complete privacy. The landlady was friendly and she spoke English well enough to communicate what we needed. Use a good map and look for the Contarini del bavolo, it's in the same courtyard. There is no air conditioning and we made the mistake of opening the windows and ended up with mosquito bites.

A quaint hotel, basic but clean and comfortable. No TV, no breakfast, but I didn't find this a problem as Venice is full of restaurants. Finding the hotel is easy - walk along the Grand Canal side from the vaporetto stop at Rialto Bridge, (don't cross the bridge) in same direction as the vaporetto, turn left at Cavalli into Campo Manin and look for the signs to Bovolo on the far side of Campo Manin.

The location is excellent and quite easy to find if you have a good map, the room was very comfortable, the bathroom was tiny, if you are a tall person you would have trouble, the nicest thing about the room that we had was that the window overlooked a canal so there were boats and gondalas passing all the time which was really nice. It would be nice to have tea making facilities in the room.

I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. They had recently split from the unit in the picture with the spirial staircase, and put a private bathroom with shower in the single room. It was very quiet. Venice is always difficult to find anything as no street goes more than a short block or two. I'd suggest buying a map as soon as you get to Venice (2.5 euros) from one of the street vendor carts, that lists every street, which will make finding the hotel much easier. Once I checked in, I never saw anyone again, but I was rarely in the room until early evening. My room was always clean. Only problem, no hot water in the bathroom. It wasn't an issue for me, but I assume they are working on the problem. Wandering around Venice is wonderful. I enjoyed the quietness of the city, esp after going on to Florence & Rome.

The owner was a sweet lady but does not speak English. They keep the rooms very clean. Our room was facing the courtyard and we had to deal with tourists outside for most of the day. The spiral tower is not the hotel but next to it and no one can access it. That does not stop leagues of tourists to stop by to photograph it (overrated) but they stop coming by around 9:30 PM or so. My wife loved it which counts. It was very convenient for our three night stay. If you are looking for it first try to find Campo Manin then see the little yellow signs for the tower. P.S. 3 days in Venice is enough time to do everything you want.

The bed was very comfortable---the gondolas passing by the window...including the serenading..could not have been a better gift for a visit to Venice! The location was very nice..and I enjoyed the privacy I was given. I really didn't see any public areas, but that was just fine with me! I could come and go as I wished. AND I was in Room 6, with no stairs to maneuver. It could not have been better;l it was WONDERFUL! I so enjoy the movies I took with my camera, from my window, of the passing gondoliers...

A place we could recomend to everyone!Lovely owner, beatiful sorrounding, quiet, clean, nice price. Not so hard to find. "From the bus terminal P.le Roma, catch the waterbus (pretty expensive) line 2 to Rialto bridge stop and walk to the hotel for 10 minuts, direction "Campo Manin". Then follow signs to "Bovolo Palace". Note, very narrow allys. The high tower on photo is Bovolo Palace, next door to the hotel, which is markt on map. If you don´t carry a lot of luggage you can walk from P. le Roma to Rialto. Venice is small. F.Y.I. the owner only speak italian and there is no breakfast served at hotel. You can buy tasty bread, yougurt, ham etc. in nearby "minimarkets". If you need cheap, fast food, you find a Big Burger (aug 2008) at Campo Manin. A good map is very useful in Venice since a street suddenly ends in a canal.

EXTREMELY hard to find this place. It took me a good bloody 4 hours of walking thru Venice. I'm not exaggerating either. Ignore that address of "Corte Contarini", its not near that at all. Get a phone number of this place as well. Need better directions. Seriously, it was ridiculous. Aside that, I was pretty happy for the price I paid. It was a nice place to stay, Venice is beautiful. I will come back now that I know exactly where it is.

Fantastic location - quicker to get to it from Rialto than San Marco - there should be better location information on the website (perhaps a link to google maps) so you can find your way there a bit easier. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Could hear the people in the next room talking but really for Venice it was very good price for the location.

The owner is a really friendly and welcoming person. She was very nice. It is an ancient family house, and it is a simple, nice bed and breakfast (but without breakfast). We stayed in the "triple room" shown on the Venere website. The location of this hotel was quite good as it was back in a quiet section, off the beaten path, yet basically right in the middle of Venice. However, though it was quiet most of the night, it does get a fair amount of tourists looking at the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, which is located right next to the hotel. It is very quiet when no one is there, but when tourists arrive, it can suddenly get quite noisy. Fortunately, it didn't seem to get that many, but they can arrive at any hour (we had some noisy people arrive at around 2:00 in the morning). Ear plugs are a good solution. It is a fair hike from the train station, so some may want to take the water transportation (it took us over an hour walking, mostly due to crowds/narrow streets). Also, it is rather difficult to find, so make sure you get one of the good maps at the train station when you arrive. Walking through Venice is like walking through a labyrinth, and it is hard to get your bearings. The room was comfortable and spacious, and the bed had good pillows and good mattresses. There was no television, if that is important. Bear in mind, that most programs are in Italian, so I found most TVs to be of little use anyway since I don't speak very good Italian. I don't recall there being any soap, so make sure you pack your own. I liked the surroundings because we were close to Piazza San Marco and other services, such as food. Overall, it was a decent bargain for the price, considering it was in Venice (Venice is very expensive).

My opinion is extremely negative, I am sorry not to have taken any picture to give an more precise idea of the situation I have found, believe absolutely unworthy. In detail: Bathroom if it can be called a water at the foot of the bed separated by a plastic wall and without fan ventilation. The shower is a flat, always in the same room near the bed, surrounded by a plastic tent. In concrete doing a shower means completely flood the room. Bed was a camp-bed whose length was more suitable for a child not for an adult person. No place to put clothes In conclusion it has been a theft!
