The owner was so proud of his city. After we toured some of the museums, he was eager to give us an additional 20min history lesson about Venetian history. Venice is a small city so it was close to everything. Breakfast was always ready exactly when we requested it. And we were lucky to have a room on the interior courtyard, and had access to a clothes line (for those doing laundry on a budget). If you have a lot and/or heavy bags, definitely take a taxi or hire a porter. It's not far from P.zza Roma or the train station, but was not easy with heavy bags. There's no elevator nor wifi, which wasn't a dealbreaker for us, but might be for others.

Negative points: It was not possible to meet other people at the hotel because the breakfast was served at the room. The breakfast was also a real "italian" one. The shower was really small (only suitable for small people) and the room was noisy. Because of that I think that the relastionship between price and quality doesn't fit. Positive points: The room was always clean. The hotelkeeper was very friendly and gave tipps for sightseeing. The Hotel is situated in an good area and can easiely be reached from Piazzale Roma or station.

Everyone should stay on a canal in Venice at least once in their lifetime. Do it soon before the water rises much more and close you eyes when you pay the bill. This accommodation was extremely difficult to find, and the proprietor seem offended when we expressed our frustration. There are NO exterior signs along the canal walkway. The entrance is off a short un-named dead-end alley off the side of the canal walkway, and a small plaque by the doorbell confirms you've finally found it. Breakfast was bad so enjoy your coffee at a sunny table along the waterfront elsewhere. While we soaked up the late October sun's rays and Venice ambiance it was snowing at home in Canada. Priceless.

Nice hotel. Great welcoming : the owners provide you advice for your visit and stay in Venice. Very quiet area near the student area where you can find restaurant, bar ect... We stayed in Venice at the very end of december, so it was quite expensive. This hotel seems to be very convenient for other periods of the year.

This hotel is a really good base to explore Venice. It is located about 20 mins walk from all the major attractions such as St Marks Square. The hotel and rooms were very clean and tidy. The host was very welcoming and helpful. He give excellent information on where to visit in Venice and routes to explore the city. Had an excellent trip to venice, fell in love with the city, can't wait to go back and will definately stay at Alla Corte Rossa.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is good, not far from train/bus stations and other sites. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was a bit small, but not as small as I expected for Venice. There was no public areas to speak of, breakfast was taken in the room and it was not very good.

Owner is Excellent, father a great help as well! Think about a small but very cossy hotel, renovated, no complaints... It might not be in the real center of it all, but walking distance from everywhere...in Venice everything is waling anyway... I give it an A !! JT

A truly lovely hotel. We arrived late at night and found the hotel easily. It is an ideal location to walk to with luggage. We knew from reading other reviews that is was tucked away, but this might be useful to include in the directions the website provides. We had been emailed a map from the owner who made us feel very welcome when we arrived. Our room was very spacious (more like a little suite!) looking straight onto the canal. Breakfast, which was served in the bedroom, was quite basic but no different from any other Italian hotel we stayed in. Having our own keys suited us perfectly as we were able to come and go as we pleased. We had a wonderful stay in this gem of a hotel and will definately return.

Alla Corte Rossa has some awesome rooms, in one of which we stayed a year ago. This year we chose a more average rate and the room was therefore .... more average. Everything was 'okay', but the noise of people walking up and down the stars was enough to wake us up(!) Next time in Venezia we will stay here again, but we will take the larger room (it's room number 101).

A beautiful hotel in Venice! Only problem I encounter was that the hotel was a water taxi away from where my friends were staying at (academia university). Other than that, front personnal were helpful and courteous. Very clean and a beautiful view of the garden from my room.

Alla Corte Rossa is an excellent hotel at a reasonable (for Venice) price. The directions were confusing because they didn't indicate that the hotel is in a small courtyard and indicated only by a small sign on the door.

Nicely decorated, spacious triple pleasantly overlooking a canal. Breakfast weak as noted by previous parties, but a snack bar and restaurant nearby compensate. Note early morning boat horns as they go around the corner in the canal, if your room faces it. Be sure to get directions or accept the offer to have them meet you at the bus station unless you've been there before -- and there are half a dozen bridges to drag luggage up and down to get there even though it's not far. Triple had a tub with a hand-held shower head; no stand-up shower, but nice bath otherwise. All in all quite pleased.

Lovely place, great location - quiet neighbourhood, yet close to Piazza Santa Margherita with its bars and cafés. We stayed for a couple of days in a beautiful spacious room overlooking the canal. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. However, this place is not for you if you're looking for full-on hotel services, since it feels more like an apartment house where you get a key and can come and go as you wish. The staff is not available at all times. Some might be disappointed by this (intentional) lack of attention, we thought it was perfect for our stay in Venice. We'll definitely come back.

Our first experience with the Alla Corte Rossa was that it was very difficult to find. Because we had already left on our trip, we did not receive the e-mailed map showing the location. We were fortunate to have the assistance of a young gal at the desk to haul our bags up the 4 flights of stairs. The room was spacious, sunny and clean and quite comfortable. The only down side was the very minimal breakfast, and there wasn't always an open breakfast room in the morning. Of course, I forget that Venetians start and end their days a bit later than Americans.

This hotel is small but the rooms are clean with high beamed ceilings and large windows. The woman at the front desk was pretty helpful too. Breakfast is very basic: pre-packaged croissants and instant coffee. It was very hard to find at night because there are no lights or signs near the hotel door and it is tucked away in a small alley in a quiet neighborhood. It would have been better if we didnt have much luggage because there is no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. It was perfectly nice though for one night and a decent price for Venice.

The room itself was recently refurbished, nice, spacious, clean. The place was very easy to find from Plaza de Roma using the map provided by Affitacamere on the website and it is very conveniently located to explore Venice. The room was very silent and there was air conditionning and we would have slept very well if it wasn't for the mosquitoes. There were 5 in the room and they absolutely had a feast of us until I got up at 3am to get rid of them. Unfortunately that spoilt our stay. If it wasn't for that, we would have been very happy with the room, the welcome, the restaurant recommendations. Other things that could improve: - Price quotation: Venere showed one price and the confirmation a higher one. I discussed this on the phone and the first price was agreed. Yet when I arrived we were asked for the higher price again. Eventually I only paid what venere showed in the first place. - Breakfast: it would be nice to have a breakfast as part of the deal even just a continental one.

The room in which we ended up was fabulous--a 2-room suite with a queen bed in one room w/bath, and a sofa bed and room for an extra cot in the other. (there were 5 of us) We originally requested 2 dbls and 1 sgl, only to find that they didn't have those available as confirmed. After some negotiation with the very sympathetic staff, we were extremely happy with the room as well as the location. Speaking of location, it was perfect! Located on a quiet canal, with the exception of the periodic passing of motor boats, GMR is close enough to all the places you want to go, without the street noise of the very congested areas. I definitely would return on a future visit as well as highly recommend it to friends. Despite the mix-up in our reservation, the staff bent over backwards to make sure we were completely satisfied. The only downside is that there are very few rooms (maybe only 6?), so it may be hard to get a big group in, or during high season. Also, if you're looking for a traditional hotel experience, this isn't the place for you. You are pretty much on your own as the office was rarely open. It didn't concern us, as we enjoyed exploring the town at our own pace. If you can get reservations, it is a great value, especially to take in the full Venetian experience.
