Al Gallo was a plesant surprise. When reading about the hostel/hotel we were a bit scared about staying there when so many people had experienced problems with the owner. Me and my girlfriend thought he was rather nice and that he could help us with our questions, although he was a bit angry at us in the beginning when some other hotelguests had let us in to the reception when he was not there ("they should not have done that"). So, for a good stay at Al Gallo you should wait outside if no one is at the reception and we also recommend that you have all your "papers" (booking reservations etc) in order and that you be at your best mood when checking in/out. Have a nice stay! H and S from Sweden

My advice(council), with all the respects, is that Mr., who attends that he is the owner, is THE UNPRESENTABLE ONE, from the head to the feet, Venere.com, deberia to remove it of his(her, your) hotels, because there is not deserved mas that to be isolated of the world, it(he,she) treats the persons disre

Stayed there for a few days, totally shocked by the size of the room !. Probably it's the smallest DOUBLE ROOM I have seen in my life. It eventually just one bed, that's it. The price is not cheap at all for its amazing size. The staff was not very friendly. And worst of all is - the buildings next/behind was under major renovation, and made huge noise right starting from 7 or 8 in the morning.. anyway, wasn't a pleasant stay, and won't be next time.

Nice place, very well located, a few minutes from Piazzale di Roma, and you can walk easily to all places of the town, the only problem was the breakfast, let's say poor breakfast, you have a nice bakery just on the corner if you haven't had enough !

'Hotel from Hell', this is the worst hotel I've ever been in any place. The owner is arrogate, rude and lack of basic patience. The room is simple but dirty, and you can find the web hanging overhead while you lie down, and the toilet service means simply pick up your used towel and put up on the ring. If you arrived here in winter, you have to get well prepared for a interval of cool shock in the middle of your shower, because the' hot water is very limited and if other guests are using the hot water for other used rather than shower, such as washing cloth, then you have to give some patient to wait the water get warm from the tank' (the original quota from the owner'). A hotel located in a remote street and only can survival on the internet age without internet access, a absolutely failure!

Well placed hotel: 5 min by feet from the bus stop and nice surroundings. We spent 2 nights there. The first night was not quit because I really think the housekeeper was doing housework durung all the night ! The second night was perfect. We did not know when we came if we had a bathroom. We were happy to have a huge and nice room with a bathroom. No problem to have breakfast.

I choose this hotel due to its location (as describe near to mainstation). Through our previous information that we woudn't get the hotel early than 11.pm as for we came from abroad about 700 km away from venice and it was chaos on the train transportation round milano, the hotel personal didn't willing to understand our reason and was so mad. The hotel was difficult to find (even asking the local person). Definitively a mess hotel. We will never visit anymore,,

The hotel was overbooked! So we had to sleep one night in an other hotel. This hotel had a strikt closing time at 1 a.m.! Then we had to move to al Gallo for the second night! We got a room with privat bath for this trouble! Breakfast was very poor - only one piece of bread per person!

I would never recommend anyone to stay here! The owner (I'm assuming that he is the owner because he is the only person that is there.) is not respectful of women or people that are not Italian. Every time we spoke to him, he yelled at us. We had to ask him a question once, and he made us wait until he was done eating until we could ask him a question. Every other time, he was very rude and yelled whenever we had to ask him something. We basically dreaded going to our hotel, and made sure that we did not go to the hotel during times that he would be there. Also, we paid a great deal of money for the room but the owner is only there when people check in or check out of their room. He gives you the key to the front door. He has no sense of customer service or respecting others. Breakfast is included, but he only offers it from 8:30-9:30 and it consists of a roll and coffee for each person. One morning we waited 20 minutes for coffee and had to serve it to ourselves. Additionally there is no elevator in the hotel and you have to carry your suitcases up a windy staircase. Lastly, the description says that the hotel is very close to the train station but it is not that close. It is VERY hard to find and is in a small alley and you can barely find it. If we did not already pay a deposit we would have left without even checking in! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL, IT WILL RUIN YOUR WHOLE EXPERIENCE OF VENICE!!!

Location is excellent, price is very good value. We had a very comfy stay. This hotel is ideal if you just need a base to do all the sightseeing. 3 mins from the bus, no need to carry your luggage over bridges, steps, canals etc.. For the price, room was fine and Bathroom was very clean .. you can't expect any more for a budget hotel.

Also wer sich in Venedig mal richtig ärgern will, dem sei Al Gallo wärmstens empfohlen !! Venedig selbst ist eine Traumhafte Stadt !!!

It is said only 5 minutes walk form Piazzia Roma, since it is extremely difficult to find, we eventually took 30 mins to arrive at that hotel. When we arrived the door was closed ( 2:30 pm ), after 1 1/2 hour the owner/receptionist/only staff came back, nither apology nor welcoming smile. He blamed us for not at the right time to check-in!

Friendly staff, but poor knowledge of English. Rooms are tiny (double rooms on the 3rd floor are ca 10 square meters, and two of them are sharing small bathroom). However, a sink is in the room. Air conditioning works well. Minibar is available for deposit. Double bed is suitable two dwarfs. Breakfast: spartan, with one bread, cup of tea or coffee, spreadable cheese, 3 tea bisquits and jam. Should be your choice, if you would like have feeling of Italian home.

As I had read on many other reviews on Hotel Al Gallo - the owner, manager, desk clerk - (who ever he is) is the only reason for a low rating of this hotel. Also, better instructions on how to get to the hotel would help too. We needed something close to Piazzale Roma, clean, and affordable. On those items this hotel fit the bill. This owner/mgr is so outrageously rude that you have to laugh. I tried to be just as rude and direct back to him. I am not sure that approach worked but it made me feel better.

I was kind of worried about staying here from reading the other comments but my boyfriend and I had a great stay. The room was lovely, clean and very spacious. Granted we had no views but for the price who needs it! The owner was lovely and he was very welcoming. We have traveled the world so believe me it was heaven compared to some places we stayed-if you've done the same it's the place for you-close to Venice and loads of amienities. Just 5-10 min walk from Bus Station and a lovely stroll into Piazze San Marco.

Great welcoming and spacious, clean rooms. Good breakfast but the dinning-room area is small and the tables very little so you have to make an effort to accommodate two adults and two children by the table. The surrounding area is nice. Not so good: reception finishes at 8:30 p.m.

We were worried about out stay her in the Hotel as we read some bad reviews. But we were very happy about the service and the quaility of the room. We would DEFINITELY stay here again. If you arrive late - then tell them - they tend to leave ( as it is a family run hotel/b&b) Good location A bit difficult to locate (but if you are new in Venice everywhere is a bit difficult to get to) - It's not that hard once you have your bearings Great stay, Well done... Good location if you drive a car to Venice - easy walking distance from Piazza Roma. The man at the desk was very helpful in getting some needed information regarding our cruise ship. There are many steps to the top floor rooms and no elevator. The bathroom, which we shared with another room, was very clean. The bed was not very comfortable and breakfast included only one cup of coffee. We chose this hotel for its location and price and it did meet our needs adequately.

Although this hotel is cozy and charming despite small rooms, we had some major problems with this hotel. We had reserved a room for two separate visits to Venice: the first for three nights and then an additional single night later during our honeymoon. We arrived at Al Gallo at dinner time and presented our venere.com confirmation email to the receptionist (who is the father of the son who owns the hotel). There was NO RECORD of our reservation at Al Gallo despite the fact that we had our confirmation email. This was a nightmare, since it was night time and rooms are nearly impossible to find in Venice short notice. The receptionist was fairly sensitive to the error and actually said that this happens all the time! We asked him to find us other accomodations. After an hour of waiting, he first offered us a hotel far outside of Venice...when we protested, he made more calls and found us two hotels in Venice, both close to the train station. The first one where we stayed the first night was cheaper than what we would have paid at Al Gallo, the other for our second two nights was considerably more expensive. When we returned to Venice the following week, the receptionist, as promised, did not charge us for the night's stay. This was a nice gesture. The breakfast is horrible. So, we would have liked the hotel if they had actually had our reservation for our first visit. I don't know that we would stay here again, but we would definitely call Al Gallo personally to confirm the reservation since it appears their paperwork is not completely in order.

The reality was that this was not a 3* hotel but a 1* or pension. It is a converted house with 7 rooms (some without toilet/shower)no bar nor 24 hour reception. Breakfast served on the 1st floor landing was substandard. The upside of the hotel was the pleasant quiet location which is 5 minutes walk from the bus/railway stations.

This hotel is extremely difficult to find. Although relatively close to the train station, it is hidden in a side alley, with no signs to assist in finding or locating it. Also, the manager locks the hotel after about nine in the evening, so don't forget your key! The accommodations are very basic: tiny shower, hard bed, inadequate lighting. The breakfast is likewise spartan, and served for only one hour in the morning. What's more, the manager and his son are seldom around to help with any questions or unforeseen problems. Still, the price is relatively low so one gets what one has paid for. But understand that the hotel is not a bargain, only perhaps a fair exchange in over-priced Venice. My son concluded that the Gallo was the worst hotel we stayed in during two weeks in Europe. Caveat emptor.

Nice Hotel, well located, nice room, nice furnitures...but awful welcome! The hotel was close when I arrived and I had to wait almost two hours!Whne Finally the boss arrived I was a bit upset, I kindly said to the boss that I was there almost two hours.. he replied, "in my opinion you can wait in the middle of the street even three hours!!" , then... the extra bed was not ready, the key was not at the reception, and that man was incredibly unpolite! This is a pity because the hotel is really very nice, small and well located! But this is not the way to treat the customers!! The hotel staff were very helpful and I enjoyed my stay. The relatively low mark for quality vs price is because it's Venice. In most other places similar spending would buy more/better hotel - but that criticism probably applies to all the hotels in town.

NEVER book room 5 or 6 ! you just have a thin wooden door beetween this 2 rooms.

Staff were very helpful with directions and recommendatons. Also advised us on the prices of various activities such as Gondola rides, ensuring we did not get ripped off in any way. We thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel as you are close to all amenities and the local people are extremely friendly. Could not fault our stay in any way at all.

Good location - 10 min walk to both the train and bus terminal. Great rooms - very spacious and well-kept. Friendly helpful staff and overall just a great place to stay in Venice.

The hotelier takes so much pride in his hotel and this shows in every aspect of the hotel. The bedrooms and bathrooms do not look and feel like a hotel but like someones home...really lovely! The hotel is 10 minutes away from the train and bus stations and is easily assessible just to waunder round Venice.

This nice little hotel can be recommended. Despite the comments of other users we enjoyed a great service. We were lucky enough to get a better room than booked. The Hotel is family run so that the atmosphere is very personal. The rooms were very quiet since the hotel is located in a very small side alley. The relationship between price and quality of the room was absolutely o.k. Something else we found very positive was the fact that the hotel is located in an area not completely taken over by tourists (if that is possible at all in Venice). Therefore prices in restaurants and bars are relatively cheap and visited by locals as well. Nevertheless all the sites are within walking distance. Have fun in Venice! (Carolyn + Ingo)

This hotel is managed by the owners only and no dedicated receptionist is available round the clock. The treatment given to us is very rough when our flight got delayed in the night. Room is good. But, for breakfast we had to go to some other hotel. Location is not easy to identify for tourists reaching in the night. No clear name boards exist outside. I would not prefer to stay there again considering the unruly behaviour of the Hotel owners. We can surely get much better hotels for that price with professional staff. I would not recommend this hotel to tourists who expect friendly treatment.

The hotel was friendly and centrally located to access the main areas of venice. The price was very reasonable for such a good location and clean hotel. The web site said no bath which I interpreted as 'no bath' not 'no ensuite bathroom'. However, sharing a bahtroom was not a problem as it was always keep very clean. If you are looking for cheap and a central location stay here.

An excellent hotel - very welcoming and generous with their time and service. The only drawback - the breakfast room was a corridor - often overcrowded. Breakfast wasn't large enough for us, but then Italians don't do breakfast!

It was good sized, clean and unformal hotel. As it is very small (just 6 rooms), much services can not be expected but price was reasonable and we could enjoy comfortable stay.

Hotel "Al Gallo" is a charming place to stay: Spacious & nice rooms, fully equipped bathrooms, nicely furnished and decorated and - providing only 7 rooms - really familiar. The hotel is situated in a typical venetian quarter, away from the main tourist areas, quiet and peaceful and a perfect starting point to discover the "real" Venice. All in all a nice place to stay at - if only the receptionist's (= owner?) helpfulness, competence and service wouldn't be so poor! He'll be friendly - as long as you don't have any demands. If you need anything (e.g. asking for a towel) he'll turn rude; don't expect any help from him. After 8 p.m. staff leaves the hotel, so if something should happen at the hotel during night time there won't be anyone to help you. We had continental breakfast at several hotels in Venice but this was the poorest we've ever had. You even get only one cup of coffee (or tea or milk or juice), if you ask for a second one you have to pay for! - It's simply not enough having a nice hotel; just as important is providing good service & being there for your guests and make them feel welcomed! Our advice: If good & reliable service is important to you, don't go to hotel "Al Gallo".
