This hotel is just off Il Campo, a great location. Daniella couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. She isn't located at the property though - you have to call to arrange to meet her there to check in. For most people, this is likely not a problem, but our cell phone didn't work in Italy, so we had to hunt for a public phone, no easy feat in a country where everyone seems to have a cell phone to their ear. Be aware that there is a lot of traffic and conversation noise until late, and it starts again early as cleaners and deliveries arrive at the Campo. For us, it was worth it to stay in this location. Our room was Lo Sperone, third floor, (no elevator - this is an 800 year old palace!) so think about that when you pack! Bonus: we had a great sunrise view from our bathroom window with Santa Maria dei servei framed in brilliant colors.

Daniela was helpful and had good suggestions for restaurants and side trips. The bed was VERY comfortable and the room was always clean. The building was charming with interesting decorations and prints on the wall. The only downside was that the street below was noisy during the night at times. But the location was well worth it. The climb up three flights of stairs may be difficult for some, but Daniela and her husband helped us with all of our luggage. I would stay here again for sure.

If you want to live in the core of Siena, in an old Siena-style building, choose Palazzo Masi. We had a lovely week, making long walks around the old town and returning easily to rest in our cool double. The owner Daniela is a cheerful lady. She gave us maps and other useful information. Our room was white and clean; its window opened to Casato de Sotto. The furniture in the room was a little bit second hand and scarce, but suited well with the style of the old building. Our shared bathroom instead was modern.

Excellent! This is our second time staying at Palazzo Masi. The building and the location are superb. Daniela could not be more helpful. Our plane was delayed and we pestered her all day long, from three cities, by email until we finally arrived very late. She was quite gracious. And luckily, we were not too late to make our dinner reservation (that she had arranged for us) across the street at our favorite il Carroccio. A very long day ended nicely with ricciarelli, vin santo and a little dog named Layla. I should add that there is also a nice laundromat across the street.

The best thing about the place is the location...excellent. Dannella is a warm, vibrant hostess with excellent English. Our room was simple but sufficient, a little noisy at night but not a big problem. Breakfast was not offered but there were excellent places within 3 minutes. We were on the 3rd floor and stairs might be a problem for some.

A great location for being in the centre. Daniela VERY nice and attentive to our questions and providing advice; she obviously cares about the guests. Noise at night is really an issue for light sleepers; closing the window would be an issue in summer as I don't believe there is air conditioning. Yes, it has been updated, but I wouldn't say recently.

The owners of this B&B are absolutely wonderful, gracious hosts! They accommodated our very late arrival (midnight), and provided restaurants recommendations, maps, and a little history of the building at check-in. Our room was very spacious, and the bathroom has updated fixtures. The location is perfect. A short walk to all of the major sites, but on a "quieter" street.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at Palazzo Masi in mid-September. The location was perfect, one block from Il Campo in Siena. The staff was very polite and helpful. It needs to be noted that the building is 800 years old and has no lighting in the stairwell and Palazzo Masi is on the 3rd and 4th floors. Bring a flashlight! It was a fabulous building and we had a great time!

It's really more of a private rented room -- there's no lobby and no staff on hand. If you're okay with that though, it's hard to argue with the location -- it's just a few hundred metres from il Campo (the main square). The room itself was spacious and the bed was comfortable. I was expecting a private en-suite bathroom, but the bathroom was down the hall, although the manager assured us it was private to us. In fact, it didn't seem like anyone else was staying there, so it was moot. The manager was also helpful, giving us maps and walking route guides as well as restaurant suggestions.

A terrific place to stay. Very close to the Campo, great places to eat nearby and across the road from the accomodation. Siena is a lovely place to explore and walk around and close to beautiful Italian countryside. We loved our stay here and regretted we didn't have more time to stay longer. The room was spacious and clean and owners very friendly and welcoming.

Palazzo Masi is located in a convenient area, close to the Campo and numerous restaurants, cafes and historic sites. The room was very quiet and comfortable with a private bath down the hall. The only negative was the bathroom periodically had an unpleasant odor , perhaps from sewer gas. I recommend the acommodation.

A great room in a fantastic location. Great welcome and good local advice on the city. Only downside for us was that were expecting en-suite rather than `private` bathroom. It was ours but was down a corridor. Didnt spoil our stay though. 2 minutes from main square in the heart of beautiful siena. Recommend restaurant opposite too.

The only problem we had was that Venere gives a number to call Daniela, but it is the wrong number so there was no answer when we called to have her meet us there. Thankfully she came by the property and found my daughter there (I was off trying to find a phone to call again) and took our things up to our room. They were very accommodating, kind and the room was very nice.

Stayed for 3 days in Oct 07. Brilliant location just off the Campo on the second and third floor in a narrow street. Access involves stairs so if you have mobility problems, beware. Siena is easy to get around on foot (hilly in places) so P Masi is an excellent base. The room was comfortable though the bathroom was a bit small and an awkward shape. The breakfast room was bright and we took breakfast each day, though no-one else did. You could probably get something in town. Advice and recommendations for such things as restaurants were offered. We ate at the restaurant just across the road and it was excellent.

Daniela and her husband MADE our holiday!!! It was slightly confusing getting to the place (most of it was my experience with pay phones) but if you know you just need to find El Campo you're fine. You'll never be lost - every other building has a sign pointed in that direction. We were greeted by Daniela and her husband. Our room was quaint and had a good view of the street almost all the way to El Campo (caution, if you have problems with stairs this one has three flights). Bathroom was what I would have expected - small shower, nothing fancy, totally European. Daniela gave us recommendations on restaurants we should try (we tried them both, excellent). We were the only ones there the first night and didn't see or hear anyone the second night. We owe Daniela immensely, she is a saint. We were in a position where my wife needed to see a doctor and not knowing who to call I called Daniela. She was at our doorstep in 10 minutes, diagnosed the situation (as we find out she's a former nurse), made a couple calls and then had her husband drive us to the clinic where she acted as our interpreter with the doctor (and mind you this is 7:30 PM local). I'm still floored by her generosity. She mapped out our walk back into the city and highlighted all pharmacy locations. Situation resolved in 60 minutes. I was worried it was going to require all the next day. Nightmare avoided. For those of you that worry about soap and towels, this isn't the place for you. If you want a fun, safe, convenient, authentic location you're missing out by passing this one by.

There was a refreshing amount of great positive reviews online, so we decided to go for it. The location was unbeatable, just a few wonderful steps away from the breathtakingly beautiful piazza Il Campo where it stays festive till late at night, but afer having explored the town of Siena for a week we noticed it would've been a fair option to stay just outside the city walls and walk into the historical area for day/half-day trips instead of being in the smack center. Also, especially coming from Florence where a top-quality room with private bath and good breakfast was available for 80euro a night, the shared-bath no-breakfast overly-washed-cheap-towels (it literally hurt to use them to wipe ourselves... a first!) situation for the same price was a bit of an unpleasant experience. You could feel they wanted to economize, both cost and effort. (But we're not supposed to compare it with hotels, according to their info file out in the hall, which we understand given the historical cultural value of the property.) The "English welcome" feel was very nice, though, and we really appreciated it in relief. Small note: the keepers wait around right outside the door for you to leave in the morning so they can come in to clean, so there was some amount of weird pressure there. If the same room is offered for a lower price and credit cards are accepted, we would not hesitate to stay again.

This hotel has an excellent location and is a good place to stay. We had originally reserved a room without a bathroom but we upgraded at no charge, which was nice. The room was very spacious and pretty quiet for the age of the building, but we wished it could have been more quiet. The bed could have been much more comfortable (the springs poked our backs). Otherwise, the room was nice. The couple who runs the place was very helpful, and made a very good dinner recommendation. The public spaces were small (no reception), but that's no big deal. Overall: great location, helpful management, somewhat uncomfortable bed, pretty nice rooms.

My friend and I were very satisfied with especially the location of Palazzo Masi and the friendly service of the owners. The noise from the street woke me up a few times during the nights, but it was bearable. Our room and the shared bathroom were clean. The room, though, was not as nice looking as the photos on the webpages indicated. In my opinion the breakfast was okay but not that terrific (anyway, you couldn't get more for the money in a cafeteria either). We came by car, and tried to call in advance, but there was an answering machine on with a message only in Italian. Finally everything worked out well, and we even found a free parking place outside the city walls, which wasn't that far after all. I'd stay here again, but might ask for a room facing elsewhere than the street.

Daniella was a fantastic hostess. She provided us with great restaurant recommendations and expert driving directions. Because we visited in July, we needed to keep the windows open at night for ventilation and that meant we heard a lot of street noise all through the night. Palazzo Masi was amazing. We had a large, beautiful room with a nicely-sized ensuite bathroom. The decor was palatial, the welcome was warm, and the house was very quiet. It's right in the middle of Siena, as well. Everything you'd want in a B&B, for a decent price. Note: The breakfast, if you want it, costs seven euros per person. We went out for cappuccinos instead, since we're not big breakfast people.

We moved from the room that we had rented for 4 nights after 2 nights, as the room we had was right next to the public shower and bathroom. Our room had windows facing the hallway, so everytime the automatic lights came on at night they lite up our room. Everytime someone slammed the door we heard the slam. Since the owner doesn't live on the premises and you need to call her when you arrive, I would suggest she post on the front door her phone number and instructions to buy a phone card at the Tabacchi (in the Piazzo del Campo) and location of nearest public phone (which is in the cafe in the Piazzo del Campo). That way if someone forgets to bring her instructions they know what to do.

Our only problem was some street noise, probably inevitable given the great location so close to the Campo. And, we do go to bed fairly early. They had also communicated with us prior to arrival about breakfast being an additional 7 euros/per person and about having to pay in cash - so there were no unexpected surprises. Couple of minor inconveniences were: construction at a nearby building made the room somewhat noisy; and the walk with luggage from the bus station was at least 15 minutes (sometimes uphill and up and down stairs).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Palazzo Masi. The location was excellent and the room was clean and spacious. Everything was just as we expected it to be. Our hosts were very accomodating and eagerly answered all our questions. Having breakfast in the bright breakfast room right next to our room was really convenient.

We arrived on a very cold day (snow falling and ice on the streets) but were immediately given a warm welcome by Daniela and Alizzardo. Our room "La Staffa" was spotlessly clean, spacious and, like the other rooms which Daniela showed me, tastefully furnished. The view from the ensuite bathroom was wonderful. We took Daniela's advice and dined at the restaurants that she suggestd. On both nights we enjoyed lovely meals at reasonable prices with very friendly service. Daniela suggested a few places we should not miss whilst in Siena. One of these was the Palazzo Chigi Saracini a fascinating building and collection of works of art. The location of Palazzo Masi just off the Palazzo del Campo was perfect. Throughout our visit Palazzo Masi on the 2nd floor was cosy and well heated. In the mornings Daniela and her husband prepared a very good breakfast which included fresh pastries from the local bakery. Our two days in beautiful Siena passed all too quickly and we can only praise the lovely accommodation and thank Daniela and her husband for looking after us so well....it was a real privilege to stay in their historic home. The palazzo masi is very well situated, just a few meter far from the main campo place. Its a very typical old palazzo but nevertheless room was very confortable and warm (we went there in winter and weather was very cold). Welcoming has been wonderfull. The owners are very nice, they took care of us and kindly sent us an email to explain the best way to attempt the palazzo and park the car.

It's always fun to write a review when you had such a great experience.... The place is gorgeous, a block away from Il Campo in a beautiful old street... although in the middle of everything, the B&B is very quiet... Rooms are a nice mix of old and modern, very nicely decorated... But the differentiator here is really the people... Daniella and her husband are incredible... upon arrival, Daniella gave us a perfect welcoming with a quick overview of the city, a map, recommendations for restaurants... speaking about restaurants, the medieval restaurant recommended is a must try... Very special... very authentic (no Disneyland there)... However, just a warning for people with food allergies... there are nuts everywhere and they were not super efficient at managing that even if my girlfriend had clearly mentionned she was allergic to nuts... But besides that, this is really a great place to try ... Back to the B&B: Breakfast in the mornings are very good and again, always served by super friendly people... I can't find anything I would change there... And I will certainly go back !!! PS: in case, you are still planning your trip and you are hesitating... do not miss Siena !! This is one of the most beautiful city I have ever seen...

This is a wonderful place to stay while in Siena. The owners go above and beyond with their hospitality. They even went as far as making us dinner reservations. The price is great for the location, room, and breakfast that is received.

Location, location, location! This place is right near the Campo, yet it was quiet and restful. The Masi's are very hospitable - even arranged for us to leave bags there until later on the day we checked out. I did forget that second floor in Europe is actually third floor to us: 39 steps up. But Daniela and Alissandro helped carry our bags. All in all, a very good place to stay while in Siena.

Daniela and Alizzardo run a fantastic B&B right in the heart of the city of Siena. We were minutes from Il Campo and among several favorite local restaurants. Accommodations and breakfast at the B&B were great. The low key appearance as a B&B, central location and hospitality makes Palazzo Masi feel like home. Although parking inside the city walls can be an issue, since parking at the central parking garage is expensive, Daniela provided us with a voucher for a discounted rate which really helped. Free parking is also available right outside of the city walls. My husband and I would highly recommend this lovely B&B.

Excellent location, very close to the Plaza del Campo. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good. Only drawbacks is that we tought that "private bathroom" meant in the room, when in fact they are at the other end of the B&B. Would we repeat? Definitively yes.

Beautiful room, right in the heart of Siena, perfect for exploring all the sights on foot. If you are driving to Siena, be aware of restrictions and the difficulty of parking though! Breakfast was not included in the price, but was very nice, so worth paying for before heading out for a day's sightseeing and shopping.

Superb location - believe what you read, you are seconds from Il Campo. We didn't have a detailed map of Siena so didn't want to drive directly in - we stopped at the train station and phoned the number given to us. The owner actually came to the station and we followed him to the door - fantastic service. Really nice service all round really. One negative point was that L'Arca room doesn't have an en-suite bathroom but it does have a private bathroom down the hall - I wasn't totally aware of this when I booked even though now reading the information again it doesn't say anything about en-suite. The other 2 rooms had en-suite though. Definitely recommended.

The property itself, its convenient location, the friendly hosts, and clean rooms were terrific. You couldn't ask for a better bed and breakfast. The only complaint -- and I would hesitate to stay here again because of it -- is that the noise level at night was so bad that I barely slept for two nights. You will love the place, but bring your earplugs.

The owner of Palazzo Masi has been more helpful and accommodating. The place is well maintained and kept. The only drawback is that the place has no reception. We rang the door bell many times and there were no answer. We rang the telephone number on the signboard that the owner walk down from further up the street. Barring this, the reception and welcome have been excellent and more accommodating. Place is convenient and is only 5 min walk to the main square.

We would highly recommend Palazzo Masi while staying in Sienna, for two main reasons: the place itself and the owners. Palazzo Masi is centrally located just off Il Campo. They have two room types; superior and ordinary. The superior rooms are beautiful, with original wooden beams running across the ceiling, the bathroom was good too. The ordinary rooms are ok, basic but clean, with a shared bathroom, which was always clean too. Breakfast is great, and served with a smile by the Danielle and her husband. They were very welcoming and always available for advice and tips on what to do in Sienna, to be honest we didn’t meet anyone nicer during our trip to Italy.

This was one of the nicest places we stayed on our entire trip to Italy. Not terribly expensive and the room was very nice. They served us lots of very nice food for breakfast, too. It's location is excellent, just a short walk from the main square in Siena. Since it is so close to the centre of town, though, we did hear some noise from the street and the pigeons were a little loud with their cooing in the morning. But I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It really was quite nice.

Located very close to the Campo, yet quiet. Do call ahead as requested to be met at the residence. You will need to take a taxi from the stations. Immaculate rooms and facilities, very lovely. Service was friendly and attentive with a breakfast that included yogurt and cheese.Quite private with only three or four rooms. Excellent place to stay in lovely Siena.

Location, location, location! Palazzo Masi is probably less than 100 steps from Il Campo on a characteristically narrow Sienese street. Owned and run by the charming Daniela and Alizzardo who are very eager to please their guests. Rooms are large and comfortable with modern baths. Breakfast selections are fresh, delicious and varied. Have your questions ready at breakfast time—the proprietress will be very helpful. I thought Daniela's recommendation of the restaurant, "Gallo Nero" (medieval menu and wait staff in costume) sounded Disneyesque—WRONG! Try it. Good food, prices and atmosphere and the live musical performance was amazingly wonderful! If you need internet access, go to e-geko.net, on via di Salicotto, 130. Low price, great service.

Very nice hotel, eventually what was a bit misleading was that the price indicated was including breakfast, although once paid we understood that we could have chosen also bed without breakfast (6 euro breakfast is pretty expensive).

Palazzo Masi is a three room bed and breakfast located just steps from Piazza Il Campo. The owner, Daniella, is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean and modern--yet located in a 13th century building! I highly recommend Palazzo Masi as a wonderful place to stay in Siena.

Palazzo Massi has a perfect location just off the main square & is really convenient for all the main areas of interest and restaurants. The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed and as they are part of an apartment building rather than a hotel it has a feeling of living with the locals. Daniella is very friendly and helpful and also provides a good breakfast. I would definitely recommend Palazzo masi
