This is a good location with regard to the railway, the buses for the Amalfi Coast, the tourist ferries (western end of waterfront, near the hard to find Tourist Office ) The restaurant had an interesting dinner menu and the food and service were excellent. The buffet breakfast was more than ample. If you are looking for a beach holiday, the beach is just across the road.

2009 I was pleased with the splendid place. This has been my 4th stay and I only found the cleanliness of the bathroon floor deplorable and the breakfast choices less generous. The room rate is quite an offer. However, I`ll come back in 2013.

Excellent hotel. Very central. Staff helpful. Rooms spotlessly clean. Comfortable place to stay as a solo female traveller. Slightly peeved to have to pay for wifi access by the hour even in the public areas of the hotel.... I feel that when youre paying for this class of hotel wifi should be included.

Stayed July 2011 enroute to Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. Enormous hotel, very corporate feel. Close to ferry, bus station and train to Pompei/Rome. Salerno like any large city in the world. No 'charm' in hotel or surroundings. Less than an hour on public transportation to Pompei or Amalfi coast and real adventure.

Situation of the hotel is very good - right on the promenade. Most of the city is within easy walking distance of the hotel - we walked to the old city to see the Christmas lights.I wouldn't suggest an "urban view" room though - most look out over the railway. The sea-view rooms offer a superb view. The structure is very modernistic and the result seems a bit cold and spartan but in general the hotel is good. The breakfast buffet, although definitely continental, was ample.

The room was large and the bathroom clean. The location was near the train station and bus station. The view was nice of the city and water. But the amenities were poor and the lobby staff was curt. We couldn't get a glass in the room, we had to call downstairs for toilet paper, and the people at the front desk were snippy. It was an impersonal city hotel and the value was not great.

On the plus side, good location, right on sea front. close to centre. 10 min walk. spacious room. comfortable clean bed. easy to find.

Beatiful views, good hotel. Could have more information in the room or at reception (such as recommendations of where to eat, timetables for the hotel gym or tours, how to connect to internet, etc.). People were very nice, but they gave very limited assistance beyond hotel "stuff" (e.g., no timetables for trains or buses, no recommendations of where to eat, they just limited themselves by saying "you can find many restaurants on this road", or "go to the train station").

The Breakfast room was terrible busy and small. The room was looking like a train station, no athmosphere and every plate was empty and no glasses for the orange-juice were available. The parking area is with extra charge and isnot written on the website 0,50 € per hour (24 hours a day). Total amount 12,00 €.The pool is only to use with a cap for hair protection.

We expected a nice hotel and found it instead to be a brilliant one. It was a surprise to us to be in such a modern building, probably the smartest we encountered in 4 weeks in Italy and certainly the newest. We loved being on the esplanade along the seafront and being only an easy 10 minute walk from the train and bus centre was a bonus. When there was a mix up by staff in allocating our room (people were still in the room allocated to us late afternoon when we opened the door) the staff were naturally most embarrassed but very obliging and at our request, we were lucky to be upgraded to a room overlooking the sea and that was fantastic: we would want such a view again when next we stay there and we will. If you would care for a luxury room with 2 bathrooms (yes, 2!), this hotel has some: I guess a reasonable premium would apply for these rooms but some may like it that way.We enjoyed the top class of it! We stayed at Salerno by chance and that was a real bonus to our holiday, particularly including a Sunday evening when it seemed all Salerno families were our walking along the beautiful esplanade that included people fishing and enjoying market stalls.

Overall, a very good hotel... just far enough from all the noise of the town center, but an easy walk to get there when you want to. Excellent breakfast. The only negatives were that the parking lot is expensive and the pool was closed during our visit. We parked on the street free just three blocks away and had no issues.

The hotel was very well maintained and clean. The staff in the restaurant and pool area were helpful and accomodating, although the pool is only open from 4pm-8pm. The front desk staff however were terrible and offered very poor service. We had issues with the air conditioning not working and the staff did not follow through even after acknowledging numerous requests. Some members of the staff at the front desk were arrogant and condescending. Also, the taxi service they recommended charged English spekers in our party double for fares, while those who spoke Italian were charged the correct fare.

This hotel was a disappointment from start to finish. Checking in the staff were not friendly and then when they told us we had to park our car in a garage a block away and that we would have to pay for it I showed them my booking confirmation which clearly stated parking included. (One of the reasons I chose the hotel). They then agreed they would pay for it on our departure. The hotel is on the outskirts of Salerno about 15/20mins walk into centre. The restaurant was a joke and I recommend not going through the frustration of eating there. The staff are terrible in every part of this hotel except for the wellness centre and it truth the best thing about the place was the indoor swimming pool. The room was spacious but I had booked a deluxe expecting to have a seperate living area as the advert they play on the lobby TV shows and on their own website, but we did not have this. I questioned it at reception to get the usual horrible treatment and let it go as we were only staying 2 nights. I believe we were in a superior room and that they put the venere.com clients one grade down which explains the cheaper rate on venere. The bar/lounge is in the lobby and the rooftop terrace was not in use (only for a private functions). In truth this hotel caters for conferences and does not care about any other guests. The hotel was overrun with 2 conference when we were there, even with the lounge being overtaken by one of these one evening for a pre dinner reception. It was no surprise to me when checking out that I had to argue over them paying for the parking again and be subjected to the worst attitude from hotel staff I have ever seen. I will not stay at this hotel again.

We expected that staying at the Grand Hotel, it might be something quite memorable- wrong. The building is large and modern and doesn't sit very well in its surroundings. The major problem was the staff- they were the least friendly, welcoming and helpful we have encountered in Italy. Ever get the feeling that when you approach the front counter, people would rather eat their own heads than talk to you. That was our experience here. I got the impression that it catered for conferences rather than travellers. The internet didn't work and there was absolutley no interest in trying to fix it. I would suggest staying somewhere smaller, homelier and friendlier.

This will be a great hotel once all the wrinkles are ironed out. Rooms were massive and very clean; room had 2 bathrooms (!!) and a bath almost big enough to swim in! It is a new hotel, and there were problems with the heating (rooms HOT, could not adjust thermostat). Potentially great facilities, but for some reason they were all closed on our 2 days there (a Sunday and Monday): includes a pool, day-spa, bar and lounge. Breakfast buffet was outstanding. Staff very helpful, downloaded local bus timetables for us to get to Paestum. Great location: waterfront, only 300m from central bus stops and about 500m from central train station.

The hotel was very nice. The rooms were very spacious, quiet, clean and modern. Ideal to explore the Almafi coast by ferry, bus or car or for a romantic getaway. Staff were helpful but there were language barriers if you did not know how to speak Italian. The hotel lack information on local events or information that would be valuable to tourists (location of tourist office, local tours, and points of interest).

stayed here one night before heading off to amalfi. Arrived at 2115 hrs, went for some food at 2130, restaurant closes at 2145. Were very reluctant to feed us, told us off for coming so late!! Breakfast was a fiasco. No clean tables, stood for 10 minutes, all the staff hid. No eye contact, no apologies. So we left and complained at reception. Again no apologies, tried to take us back up to get a seat, by this time we had had our fill and went out to get breakfast. When we came to check out, asked not to pay for breakfast. We were told breakfast was free anyway so it did not really matter. All a bit of a shame, as it is a lovely looking hotel. Rooms are lovely, quite funky and very recently refurb'd. Get the impression this hotel had literally just opened, asthetically lovely, operationally diasterous.
