Room was long and narrow with a window that opened onto an interior building recess and fire escapes. Hallways were narrow, too, and very white-tiled and shiny. There is only a tiny common area, which I did not use. The proprietor did not allow me to park my bike in the building courtyard (there were cars parked there) unless I wanted to pay an extra 24 euros a night, but locking it up on the sidewalk outside did not turn out to be a problem. Neighborhood in general seems quite safe. It is not overly commercial or touristy, but it is very conveniently located just off Piazza Cavour and a couple blocks from the river and Castel Sant'Angelo, which is worth a trip to the top to look out over the city, the river, and St. Peter's. I rented my bike, by the way, from TopBike, and I can't recommend that method of seeing Rome enough. Easily the best decision I made on my stay. It puts virtually every major destination within minutes, and overcomes the fatigue that may be involved in trying to take in the endless sights there are to see in Rome. Rome is a breath-taking place to visit, and I would easily recommend the Marta Guest House as an excellent value. I stayed there three nights. The bathroom was cramped, the furniture a little dilapidated, the breakfast definitely skippable, and the internet a little weak in my room (#4), but the place was entirely adequate for my needs--comfortable bed and very clean.

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at this hotel. It is a little hard to find - but once inside the staff is so helpful and nice - with everything - tickets, dinner options, maps and directions. The had a nice breakfast brought to the room every morning and they helped us with a room when we returned and accommoated our daughter who joined us for the remainder of our trip. The mad who works the desk during the day during the week - is just the best!!!! we loved it.

The hotel is located a minute away from Piazza Cavour and all the buses you would ever need. Otherwise, it's a 10-15 minute walk to most attractions. The hotel staff were really really helpful, particularly when we first arrived. Staying in this area is also cheaper in terms of meals in the nearby restaurants. Would stay there again and highly recommond it to others on a moderate budget.

Very simple place, a bit rundown but in an authentic Roman neighborhood, in a great location with a very friendly staff. Pleasant stay, a good place for the price.

We reserved an air-conditioned room, but the air conditioner didn't work. We were told to use the ceiling fan. The ceiling fan was filthy, and I didn't want all the dirt on it flying around the room. The bedspread on the extra bed was dirty, and the reception area was a total mess. Yes, we have been to Rome many times. This was the first time our room did not meet our expectations.

We were traveling with 9 people in our family and since this was a trip that we were paying for we were looking for something very affordable for 4 rooms. Marta's Guest House is certainly a very good value! It's a little hard to find, but our driver had a gps in his car, so we find it easily. We were a 15 minute walk to Vatican city and many very nice restaurants near by. The young man at the front desk was most helpful and spoke very good English, his night replacement spoke very little English. It was very hot during our stay and the air conditioning in one of the rooms would only turn on after everyone turned off their lights for the night. I would recommend this Guest House for those who don't need the bells and whistles of a hotel and want a property that is a great value. Our family ranged in age from 18 - 70 and everyone really enjoyed this property.

We stayed at Marta Guest House for six nights. The hotel is located near The Vatican in a residential part of Rome. There are several very good restaurants, gelaterias, and good shopping nearby. Also, the underground was a short walk. The staff was attentive. The rooms needed some paint. The shower stall was not clean. The bath towels were more like bed sheets. The noisey doors opening and closing woke us up at night. Apart from those complaints our overall stay was acceptable. We were happy to be in Rome!

The bed was a bit stiff, the price quoted in the confirmation e-mail was about 10 euros off, and the building is to the west of Piazza Cavour rather than to the east (as shown on the map). But not a bad arrangement for the price.

It is probably difficult to find a more welcoming and accommodating little guesthouse in Rome. Marta's Guesthouse is really a big appartment with many rooms, well renovated, beautifully furnished and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again anytime. The location is very convenient.

Veery difficult to find as address is #41 which would normally follow #39. However we found #37 then #39 but #41...? Eventually next block we found #39A - a school. Next block #39B - another school or college. Finally next block #41 with little plaque over buzzer saying Martha Guest House. Very old charming elevator. Room was basic but lots of noise from other guests and street noise. Overall good value for money as far as Rome goes. Obviously no breakfast.

The room itself was o.k. and clean. The only problem were the showers and toilets. One toilet sit was to small and both showers were lousy. The water didn't flow off and the sliding doors of the showers were broken. If you use them you have them in your hand. The window was all day open and once also so door, but after telling them that, they closed it. But one praise: As a friend of mine came also to Rome there were no problem to prepare my room as a double room. Sorry, I didn't remember the photos or map of your web site. But Marta's guesthouse is very friendly and gives you a describtion how to reach them via email. You also could also get a lift from the airport if you like and willing to pay about 40Euros. Why do I have to answer all question, I couldn't answer the question with photographs, maps and public area. What do you mean with public area? So I made the cross in the middle.

Small clean room. We had the room next to the reception-desk. This showed to not so good since all incoming phonecall were answered from it. Also everyone had to ring the doorbell to get in to the house. So it also rang in the reception quite often. Although my comments it was a ok place to stay at. A couple of blocks away from St Peters Basilika, 10 min walk to the Spanish steps and 10 min to Piazza Navona. To save money, contact the hotel direct, then you'll get a better price.

The best thing about Marta Guest House were the employees. Ovidio, Lourdes, Peter and the rest were extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. They helped us with all our needs, provided maps and directions for us to get around the city. Ovidio suggested the open-bus tour which was the highlight of our stay in Rome. The restaurants that were recommended by the staff were also very good. I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone traveling to Rome on a budget. The rooms have the essentials, bed, bathroom, closet and they are kept very clean.

We REALLY enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Extremely nice (mostly English speaking) staff, VERY helpful, very charming. The hotel is in walking distance of all important Roman tourist sites. Lovely restaurants nearby too. 10 min. walk from subway station (don't even try to find the bus stop at Termini, go straight for the subway; you'll save loads of time and irritation). If returning to Rome, I'll definitely stay at the Marta Guesthouse Hotel again!

There are 2 Marta Guest Houses in Roma. In the web page is only Marta Guest House 1 described. The Marta Guest House 2 is two streets ahead and miles away from the description!! We orderd a driver from the airport to the guest house directly over the employees of the guest house. The driver knews, that we are in Marta Guest House 2 - we didn´t!! Forther in the discription is "Bed and Breakfast" - we hadn´t any breakfast.

once we got over our initial surprise at the difference in what we would know as a guest house in Ireland we were quite happy. We had our 20 month old grandson with us and a travel cot was provided free of charge. We were pleasantly surprised when we received early morning expressos! The room was spotlessly clean and we had our own private bathroom. The guest house was very central, only 10 minute walk from the Vatican. The staff were friendly and helpful and when we were leaving Oviedo came down especially to say goodbye to Jake, our grandson. The accomodation is ideal for anyone who wants to stay in central Rome at a very reasonable rate. I would definetly stay here again if I wanted an inexpensive visit to Rome.

After spending about the same amount of money for most hotels across Paris, Rome, Florence & Venice, we were elated to find the room quite spacious for the price. Have only high praises for the two gents, Ovidio & Danilo, who checked us in and answered all our questions on getting around and best monuments, museums & shopping places to go.

Well, the radiator didn´t work so it was cold in our room. The toilets and the showers were in bad shape(we lived in the complex with shared bathrooms, they also have a b&b with seperate bathrooms and its really nice). The one who welcomed us didn´t know any english but fortunately her chainsmoking friend did. But what else can you expect from a one star room?!. Marta however was really nice and she spoke english, as well as on of her employees(a man), and he was really nice to. The location was superb. I would definitely recommend martas guest house to others.

After booking we were informed that we would be in another property owned by the hotel but not featured in any of the photos. It was very difficult to find as there was no obvious sign. The room was grubby, cold and the bed was hard. The staff were not very friendly and the cost of the room 75euros was very expensive for what it was. On returning to Rome we found somewhere else, far better for only 50euros.

This is defenitely a hotel I would recommend very much. Its location is excellent, just a short walk from Piazza Navona or St. Peter's, but not as busy as other places. The rooms were perfectly clean and the staff was helpful. They have just been opening up another floor with new rooms, that's where I stayed. So if you are looking for a nice little hotel, come here. My daughter and I enjoyed a four day stay at Marta guesthouse (june 2003). They have 2 addresses where the rooms are, both very near Piazza Cavour, both marked by a small red square on the map in their web page. Be sure to know which address you need, especially if you carry luggage. Even so, we were surprised to find that we had to go to the other address after all. we cannot complain though, because we got a better room (with shower and toilet) for the same rate as a room with shared bathroom (as we reserved). I don't know about other rooms, but our room looks very similar to the photograph in the web page, it would be nice to have some more photos in the web. The rooms are renovated and clean, the staff is very friendly, there is a small safe in every room (which is very helpful). They do not serve breakfast, but then you can have any breakfast you want outside instead of the regular coffee and toast. The surrounding is quiet so you can sleep almost any time of the day and yet the location is very good. 10-15 minute walk from the Vatican. 15-20 minute walk from Piazza Navona or Piazza Popolo. We walked to almost everywhere in the city center, and for other places there are many bus lines in piazza Cavour (1 minute from your room). If you do not seek luxuries, but need a nice place to take a shower and sleep at a relatively budget rate, then Marta guesthouse is a very good choice.

The webpage didn't mention that there were two locations. We stayed in the alternative location, closer to the river which was very nice and very well situated. There wasn't any luxury (no television, no safety box), but we didn't miss that..we were more busy exploring the city!! And luckily there were two ventilators :) Kas&Chris
