Arena-House offers single, double, and triple rooms (all non-smoking rooms).

The Townhouse is located on the ground floor of a building dated back to the 18th century, in a very quiet area, just 218 yards (200 meters) away from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, a place of great archaeological interest. The central position of the property makes the guests’ stay unforgettable. In the area is possible to find supermarkets, shops, theatre, and a lot of pubs and wine bars. Onsite amenities include complimentary wireless and wired Internet access.

Whether you want to walk, take a bus or the metro, it is possible to easily reach the most important places in Rome such as St. Peter's Church, Navona Square, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Via Veneto, and many important museums.

This was my first trip to Italy. I stayed here the first two nights in Rome and it was perfect. It was very close to all attractions and on a cleaner and quieter street. Barbara and Vincent (the managers) were both very kind and very helpful--greeting me by name every time I walked through the door. I had to stay elsewhere when I returned to Rome and I wish I had stayed here again instead. Tip--If you're American and you've never been to Europe just know that all hotel rooms are very small. This room was very small but it had everything I needed and I would go back in a heartbeat if I ever return.

I have to agree with nearly all of the reviews that were posted in the past. Although it's simply a bunch of rooms on one floor, without any typical hotel common area, the place is clean, in a decent and safe neighborhood - carabinieri on on side and police on the other. Location near Colesseum and Roman Forum is terrific - just a couple of blocks away, as advertised. Free, though slow, wifi and computer in the room. Taxi stand, bus stop, restaurants, gelateria and grocery shop close by. Metro station is right across the street from the Colesseum. Vincent and Chiara are very friendly, accomodating and helpful people. Breakfast is in an adjoining hotel - juice, coffee and breakfast rolls. Only negative is flushing the toilet, which required a bunch of quick pushes on a wall button, an annoyance which sometimes Vincent would have to resolve. It would be nice if the annoyance didn't exist, but it wouldn't deter me from staying there again.

The welcome was excellent, warm and personalized, thanks to Vincenzo and Barbara. The room was very well situated, very close to the Colosseum, the Palatino and the foro romano. Other places were easily accesible on foot or by public transport. The room was spacious enough, we stayed 5 nights without any problems. it was very quiet at night although close to a number of very good restaurants. We recomment it without any réservations!

the hotel is situated near the Colosseum in a quiet road, you hear rather little traffic noises. The staff is very helpful and competent in helping to reach sights and places by public transport. we felt very welcome. the beds were comfortable.what we found very convenient was the refrigerator and the waterboiler in the room. the only thing we were not so content about was the breakfast in one of the connected bars.

Great location (2 minutes walk to Colosseo) with bus and metro nearby, the room was quiet and well equipped (TV, computer, wifi, fridge, air conditioning, hair dryer). The staff was really friendly and helpful, they recommended as great Italian restaurants in the neighbourhood. Breakfast was Italian style (i.e. coffee + a small croissant), but we enjoyed to eat it among the local people, the same way as they do. We loved Rome, and this accommodation was a good choice - we recommend it!

We agree with most, if not all, of the positive comments posted, especially the warm welcome provided by the hosts, Vincent, Barbara, and Chiara. Having said that, please be aware that the room size is not spacious, but average by European standards; internet access provided can be slow and somewhat difficult to navigate, and the breakfast provided is minimal (one croissant/roll and coffee/juice). All things considered, we would stay there again.

Our group of 6 spent 3 nights at Arena House. We found it very comfortable, very clean and staff very friendly. The location is perfect for touring the city, just 5 mins from the Coliseum. Nice choice of reasonably priced restaurants nearby. We also felt we were in a safe area of the city. Only downside was that you had to go out of the hotel to have breakfast in a choice of 2 breakfast bars in the next street. We didn't find the staff very friendly in either bar, and the breakfast was very disappointing, just croissants and cakes.

Overall, an excellent value for the money. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends without any reservations. Details: This is a budget accommodation. Hence, do not expect spacious rooms with baroque furniture and daily changes of towels. Room may be considered small by the US standards, but are average (or even large) by European ones. However, if you are a tourist, you probably would not spend much time in a hotel room anyway --- you simply need a place to relax, sleep, and gain energy for the next day's adventure, with minimum logistics and financial costs. The Arena-House is perfect for that. Located on a quiet street, just a couple of streets away from Colosseum, but in a residential neighborhood with many local restaurants, bars, eateries, etc and easy access to buses and metro. Our room had a desktop, but we used our laptop and free WiFi most of the time. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They are fluent in many languages. They provided us with excellent restaurant recommendations, detailed instructions on how to navigate Rome's public transportation, tips on visiting various museums. Their help made our visit to Rome much more enjoyable and memorable. We are very very thankful! Tips: Check out Luzzi for great pizza and great authentic rustic roman dishes very inexpensively. There are a couple of small groceries stores in the neighborhood that offer decent produce, just ask the hotel staff. Walk around the neighborhood, it is safe and you may find interesting places. Both Piazza Venezia and Cavour area with many restaurants are within walking distance. There are also many public transportation options, just ask hotel staff for help. Please, see other reviews of Arena-House on this site. They are accurate. Conclusion: perfect for the money!

Sept 2011. This area of town combines safe and secure area at night (Police station on both sides of the building) with the absolute most convenient location to all of Rome's attractions except perhaps the Vatican. 5 minute walk to Coliseum, Forum, and Metro Station. Metro is two stops to the Train terminal. When we left we hauled our bags to the Metro and rode to the Train station, door to door the trip took about 20 minutes. Bus 81 takes about 30 minutes to the Vatican and picks up at the end of the street. Tickets for metro and bus available at the tobacco store across the street. Large room for Rome. Friendly and helpful Staff. Room is basic but has all we needed. Small refrigerator with fruit juice supplied. Breakfast is a croissant and espresso around the corner at a local "breakfast" bar. Couple of great restaurants in the neighborhood along with Gelato, liquor, and grocery store. Met other tourist from all over Europe each night we went to dinner. So close we could walk by the lighted Coliseum after dinner, a real bonus.

My friend and I stayed at the Arena for 5 nights in September. The room was very basic, just beds, a desk and chair and a TV (no english channels) but with the welcome addition of a computer with internet access. The bathroom was tiny but contained everything we needed and the shower was good. There was air conditioning too which was welcome as it was very hot. The proprietors were smashing - we were given a warm welcome and some cold fruit juice, and Vincent gave us a map on which he drew all the local bus routes and told us how long it would take to walk anywhere. Whenever we saw Vincent or Barbara we were greeted warmly and made to feel at home. We were also given vouchers to exchange for a light breakfast locally, but we did not use them as we were always too keen to start out sightseeing! There is a kettle in the room for making drinks. Without doubt the main reason to stay here is the location - 2 mins walk from the Colosseum, 15 mins walk from Piazza Venezia in the centre of the city, it was such a thrill each morning to turn the corner and see the Colosseum looming over us. If you just want a reasonably priced basic base for sightseeing and don't intend to spend much time in your room, I would recommend the Arena, and I would stay here again myself.

Nice quiet location near Colosseum and close to bus and Metro. More a hostel than a hotel. Towels are changed only once every 3 days. Breakfast consists of a croissante and a drink and is served in a choice of 2 restaurants around the corner. While services are basic I doubt if you'll find better value in as good a location. Ideal for back packers.

Arena House is an excellent place to stay, and a great value. We came in for a short 3 day weekend to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and Chiarra was exceptional with sharing the knowledge needed to get around quickly, and tips to make the most of our stay. The house is a 5 minute walk from the Coliseum and Forum, and the room was clean, cool and quiet. Everyone was happy to help and always cheery. I would also recommend using their relation with their driver to get you back and forth to Fumi, as at the end of the day, the cost is reasonable and saves time you can use to enjoy Rome. Ciao!

Considering the location (200 yds from the Colloseum) this is serious value for money. I have stayed there 6 times now. Barbara and Vincent could not be more welcoming or helpful. Yes you have to go to a coffee bar round the corner for breakfast but that is hardly a big deal! There are tea/coffee making facilities and cakes in the communal areas and there is also free internet access in all the rooms. OK the rooms are a bit small but are very clean and the beds are very comfortable! The bonus of being in small side streets is that the rooms are very quiet - no trams thundering past at all hours of the day and night or the constant traffic/police siren noise that is present in more obviously popular streets such as Cavour. There are also loads of bars and restaurants very very close but being just the other side of the Colloseum to the centre of Rome are much more reasonably priced. The area also feels very safe - most of the times I have stayed there I have been as a single female but have had no worries about wandering around on my own even in the evening. OK the rooms are a bit small but are very clean and the beds are very comfortable! I am just waiting for next year's marathon entries to open and I will be booking up to stay there again!

My wife and myself could not be happier with our time spent at Arena-House. Their entire staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Our travel plans got off to a difficult start due to a winter storm. They were wonderful with their understanding & flexibility. Upon arrival, we were greeted like good friends. We had a great stay again at this Hotel. The staff and area are superb! Its just a few minute walk to the Colosseum and metro/bus lines. The area itself is very nice and safe to walk at night. This time there was one downpoint: It was quite some noise in the neighbour room. When they used the toilet flush, it was very loud. When we actually heard it for the first time a night, we thought someone was breaking into our room... Still that is nothing, that would bother me too much. I will stay at this hotel again. I have been to rome many times and this is clearly the best hotel for that price!

Special mention about a hotel staff Barbara who had gladly received us at an early hour (7.00 am) on our arrival. She was a perfect host, put efforts to make us comfortable and gave us more than sufficient tips about things to do in Rome. Our taxi missed the hotel the first time but managed to find it on the second drive around the block; it could do with a bigger more prominent signboard. The hotel location was very convenient; short walking distance to the colloseum and the Colloseo metro station. I guess the hotel is also a safe place as it is right in between a police station and a Carabineiri headquarters! Our taxy back to the airport was arranged by Barbara and the fare was 40 euro as compared to almost 60 euro on the meter by the normal airport taxi on the way in. I would certainly recommend that you book a taxi through the hotel internet before your arrival at Rome airport. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would certainly recommend it to others.

The highlight of Arena House is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, Vincenzo and Barbara, and a younger woman who was on desk duty sometimes. I think other reviewers have said they were like a second family, and this was certainly our experience. When we left, both Vincenzo and Barbara helped us out with our luggage and bid us good-bye at the outside door like parting relatives. Running a close second in terms of advantages was the location: a 5-minute walk to the Colosseum, and less than that to the bus that takes you to the Vatican. In spite of the proximity to all that tourist activity, it's a very nice--and very quiet--little residential neighborhood, with lots of reasonably priced restaurants and cafes ("bars") nearby. We also felt very safe with the Carabineri in a beautiful little villa next door! A supply of delicious Sicilian blood orange juice in a small fridge in the hall is available (free) to all guests at any time. Another nice touch was the wine bottle opener provided in the fridge in our room. And it was great to have unlimited free Internet access via the computer in every room. Our room was very small, but organized to make the most of the space (a bilevel luggage rack accommodated both of our suitcases). The only small improvement we would suggest would be to have towels changed every day or every other day rather than every three days. The weather in Rome was fairly humid when we were there, so the towels remained damp. This improvement would have been worth a couple of extra Euros per night to us. We would definitely return to Arena House, and highly recommend it to others.

Arena House is in a great location in Rome, just blocks from the Colosseum. The rooms are small, but if you're just using them for sleeping, then they are good enough. The bathrooms are not too cramped and seem newly renovated. The hotel is a little hard to find the first time because the sign outside is more on the side of the building and isn't very prominent. You are given breakfast coupons to use at two pastry shops nearby. All you get is a drink and one pastry, so it's kind of skimpy, but it's definitely better than nothing. There are computers in each room, but there is also wifi if you want to use your own laptop. The staff is super nice and very accommodating. One person in our party had trouble getting money out of the ATM (payment is only by cash, unfortunately), and they gave him the option to wire the money to the hotel once he got home to the States. I found that very generous of them.

Overall the stay was very pleasant and walking distance from all major tourist locations, the collosseum being one street away, literally a minutes walk, and the Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, etc all walking distance away.

Building exterior run down - difficult to find - entrance concealed behind building work. First impression crumby. Welcome by owner was excellent - room was cramped but clean and worked - good internet. Sound proofing was poor but other occupants were considerate. Most positive was the help and support from the owners - they made the stay enjoyable - lent umbrellas etc - organized taxi etc. We would go thee again. Recommend you use their 40€ pick-up service from/to airport excellent and cheaper than the taxi. The area is OK between local police station and Caribinieri station lots of restaurants and bars nearby

really a nice place to stay for some days, very close to the best historical places, very quietly and with very friendly personnel. I don't think you can't find any better place for a similar price and in a similar location.

This hotel is very close to the Coliseum, and there are a number of grocery stores nearby if you wish to avoid the higher-priced ristorantes (6 euros for a diet coke!). It was only mildly difficult to find, so try to research the surroundings before going or you will wander around a fair bit like we did. For example, with your back to the Coliseum facing east, head to the far right road and down the street and the hotel is on the right hand side of the street, down a driveway (there was a bit of construction going on at the time, so there may be a different entry by the time you go). Staff is extremely helpful, and they have snacks and drinks you can try.

The hotel had very few frills - which was very much as we expected from reading other people's reviews. But it was perfect for us as we were on a short 3 night trip and only wanted somewhere to sleep each night. Having said that, each room had internet access for free, a very good shower, BBC World on the TV and everything worked - no problems with lights or plumbing, etc. The rooms were cleaned each day too, so that was very good. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The only downside to the hotel itself was that people seemed to be clattering round at all hours - probably leaving early for flights - so we got woken up a couple of times. But that was our sole issue, which really wasn't important. The hotel is situated on a very quiet road and it really is just a couple of hundred yards from the Colosseum, so it's in a great position. Vincent - the manager (or owner), who is a really nice guy - recommended a couple of restaurants nearby in the Via Celimontana, which is the same street where you get your breakfast. They were both very good, but the cheapest by a long way was Luzzi. It was always packed, but definitely worth the wait if you can't get a seat immediately. As regards breakfast, that was just a coffee and a croissant which was fine - you can make your own tea and coffee with cake in the hotel for free too. There are two cafes that provide breakfast. The nicest one is at no 22 (or 24). We had a really good time. I would recommend the hotel and absolutely loved Rome.

The owners were very friendly and helpfull. The location is great, if you want to discover the southern part of the center. We had a room facing the garden of the carabinieri, so it was very quiet during the night. We enjoyed the coffee making facilities and the computer with free internet in the room. We would come back!

Good hotel, good surroundings and excellent staff (they made me feel at home!). My room (for single use) was not big, but it was very clean, with a good bed and silent, and the bathroom even had a marble sink. I initially booked for 4 nights, but decided to stay 1 extra night. Absolutely recommended.
