Manarola, where the b&b is is a wonderful place to visit. Really charming village in Cinque Terra. However, the train is way too close to the house, underground, and you can hear every train passing by (and there are many of them, even during the night). By hearing I mean even waking you up and walls trembling when a fast train goes by without stopping. Another but, is the bed quality, a bit uncomfortable and makes too much noise for a quiet sleep. A shame, because the place is clean and rather ok for a small b&b. Wonderful restaurant next to it (il porticciolo).

This was a nice place with a very friendly owner and staff. The room was just big enough to contain the bed and a small corner table and was spotless and modern. The location is excellent, but the train noise is very loud, like thunder, when a train passes through the station at high speed.

We stayed in 1 of the 3 rooms above the owners' shop and as the other reviewers said, except for getting and returning the keys, we didn't see them at all in the 2 days we spent in Manarola (we were out during shop hours), so no service was rendered but this wasn't a problem because we didn't need any. (We didn't even have to pay til our departure time!)The restaurants, sea, railway station were all a few metres from our door and we really liked the quiet surroundings, compared to the other villages, and would recommend the guest house. The only slight drawbacks: since we had come by car, there were 600m (but seemed like more) to lug our bags down and then up again to the parking area, and no wi-fi.

Great location, great rooms. Not great communication or clarity about what we had reserved, but we were happy with what we got. A bit difficult being on the 5th floor, but worth the climb.

Exactly as advertised - 2 recently rennovated rooms above the pottery shop. We (2 couples) had a wonderful 3 night stay at Ca Da Baran. Excellent location in the heart of tiny Manarola. Easy access to train, seaside, boats, trail (Via de Amore) without alot of steps. Manarola (and Ca da Baran in particular) is a good choice amongst the 5 towns to stay if you want to avoid alot of steep stairs. We spent our days touring the Cinque Terre towns, and spent our evenings on the rooms terrace watching the people and having cocktails. Several good restaurants and shops nearby. Room was clean, good air conditioning, good shower, good bed. At check-in, you are asked to pay in cash, you are given the keys, and then you are on your own - no daily cleaning, no one will bother you, the pottery shop owner does not speak english. There is a rumble from the train as it speeds by once per hour. And the children playing in the square next door can be loud if you sre trying to take an afternoon siesta. Overal - a great find !!

We stayed for 3 nights. The room is not serviced daily. Due to location in the middle of the village you hear not only the train which is expected, but all local pedestrian traffic. We felt isolated from the owners in that they did not attempt to touch base with us to see if everything was okay. However it was an authentic experience which did not detract from our holiday.

Wonderful place, wonderful location, nice (shared) balcony, modern furniture. You feel to stay in the midst of real life in Italy, not a sterile hotel room. Two minus signs: there is a step between the room and bathroom, which can cause accidents if you don't pay attention (which happened). The other is the sound as the train goes by even in the middle of the night or early in the morning. If you sleep well, it's not a problem of course.

Three very nice rooms above a pottery store, run by the store owner. These rooms are newly refinished, so everything is spotless and new. The furnishings are basic but quite adequate, you don’t need to spend much time in them. Powerful air conditioning when you need to get out of the sun. There is a brief rumble from trains passing in the nearby tunnel each hour from 5am – didn’t bother us. Best thing about them is the location – they are on the main street, very close to the harbour, just a short walk after the tunnel. There are many other properties that are a considerable walk uphill Owners do not all speak English. Store closes at 8 or 9pm and opens at 10am. They need cash, no credit at the end of your stay.

Manarola is great and Ca'de Baran is perfectly adequate. We unfortunately had some administrative issues caused by a language barrier from the staff checking us in. The owner needs to make sure that she has staff who can understand international tourists if she is not there. She also assisted us with receiving lost luggage sent by the airline prior to us arriving which we were grateful for. The rooms are effected by the noise from the trains going underneath continually but there is little that can be done about that. I would certainly stay in Manarola again and most probably at Ca'De Baran. It suits people who look after themselves and don't require assistance in finding out what to do or where to eat , which suited us. The people of Manarola are great, very friendly and very welcoming. If you are a needy tourist , stay elsewhere. All the restaurants and bars there are good . There is a great little place with live music by local musicians at night which we frequented a lot.
