We were three friends looking for a nice, quiet b&b for spending a couple of days in the amazing surroundings of Riomaggiore and Cinque Terre. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the room and the service: we got a big room, private bathroom, fridge, water boiler with tea bags. Also the position is very central and few hundred metres from the beach. Only the cleaning service was pretty loud and did not provide to clean the room (although they knocked on our door at 9 am!!). Overall good.

Very convenient location on the main street. Easy walk from the train station; not too far up the hill. Room does not have wi-fi. Wi-fi is available in the office, but the office is not always open, so you have to stand on street outside office to access wi-fi. We traveled as a couple; we received 2 bath towels and one hand towel. When we asked for a second hand towel, we were a bit miffed when we were refused, and told that we were allowed only one.

We love Riomagiorre. Amy was very helpful, with hike recommendations, places to eat, bus schedules, etc. Be aware, the stairs getting to the room were very steep.

My stay was excellent. Amy was extremely helpful and welcoming. Even when there was a hot water issue, they quickly offered us a room in another building to take a shower and even move if we wanted. Since it was Sunday, the water couldn't be fixed yet, but it was quickly resolved by the next afternoon. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The location was perfect, looking out on Via Colombo. I would highly recommend to anyone and hope to stay again sometime soon.

unfortunately the wifi is in the main office, so no internet in the rooms. Apart from that, the staff was extremely friendly and the room really spacious and clean. would definitely stay there again.

The stairs up to our rooms were ridiculously steep and quite dangerous. The accommodations were adequate. We hiked from Monerrosso to Vernazzia. It was long but very beautiful.

My husband and I stayed for three nights at the Colombo Guesthouse and, on the whole, were dissatisfied with our experience. The room itself was adequate and, since the hotel is in Cinque Terre, the surroundings (and view from the window) were spectacular. However, the lack of certain basic amenities made our stay less than ideal. For instance, there were no curtains on the windows to block lights from the town, which streamed in all night as well as early in the morning, making sleep difficult. There was also what seemed to be a lack of concern on the part of the hosts with providing what are usually considered basic amenities: a hair dryer, hooks for hanging clothing or damp towels, shampoo (all of which could be provided at little expense). The room was described as not providing WIFI so this lack was not unexpected, but having access to this service would have been a plus.

When your room is at the streetside its very noisy. We had a room with two single beds. The beds were very good! The room was complete but not cosy at all! The view at sea was not really there but the hotel is just in the middle of the little town Riomaggiore. Unfortunatelly; the Via dell amore walkingpath is closed till 1915.

We (2 girl friends) stayed in a twin/double bedroom overlooking the street. The entry path getting to the room was beautiful. Amy and her husband were the most wonderful hosts. Helping with restaurant recommendations and satisfying all our requests for assistance. We visited all five Cinque Terre locations and loved home-basing from Caribana Guesthouse. Can visit all five by train or ferry service. The beach area at the shoreline, although rocky, very accessible and nice place to swim/sun bathe.

This is a great guesthouse. We saved some money as since this is a guesthouse we could buy breakfast and evening food to take back. We could also make our own coffee. It is very close to the sea and the bars and cafe's as well

My husband and I were here for two nights, and loved it so much we tried to stay longer! Location was perfect, as it was a short walk from the station with luggage. Unlike some of the other towns. And our room was on the top floor and had a great big balcony off our room, where we were able to sit and drink wine. Although the rooms were basic, they were spacious and clean, and with great air conditioning, which was a blessing after the vey hot days! Martha, who welcomed us was just the perfect host and we cannot recommend her highly enough. She provided maps, with suggested walks, activities, train/ferry timetables, and went out of her way to make dinner reservations etc. and this was what truly made our stay worthwhile. Thanks again Martha, we'll be sure to come back!

We stayed in Riomaggiore for 2 nights. Pros: the room is large and clean. We had an ocean side view from the window. The location is right in the heart of Riomagiorre. There's a restaurant right beside the hotel office, where the seafood pasta has been the best in Cinque Terre for me. There is a laundry mat nearby, a store and a take out place where you can buy food for cheaper. Cons: the price isn't that cheap but it's fair. There are lots of stairs leading up to the room and there's no elevator, so I don't recommend this to people who have difficulties climbing lots of stairs.

Nice size room, great little kitchen if you are tired of going out to dinner. It was a little noisy, but closing the windows fixed that. Also, be ready for some serious stair-climbing to get to the room. I would have preferred if there was someone on call beyond the hours of 9-5. But, otherwise, I thought it was a nice accommodation and very conveniently located nearby the train station.

The agency rents several rooms in different parts of the village. We had a nicely renovated room, however, unfortunately next to next floor's aircondition, that ran all night long and was very noisy.

Good location, but very noisy at night til midnight or later, as there is an outdoor bar across the street. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the room and the furniture. I expected a tiny cramped room, but it was at least double the size of what I expected. The biggest downside was the maids did a very poor job of cleaning. The floors were dirty, as were the mirrors and they never changed the towels... The droplets of blood we found on the spare comforter were kind of a downer too, Yuck !!! It seems like they just made the beds and left. Too bad, it would be a pretty nice hotel if it were cleaned better. There are no hotel services per se, as it is more of an apartment. I expected this and it was not a problem as long as that is what you are looking for. Not easy getting your luggage up the steep stone staircase to the room...

We actually found it to be better than expected. There was a mini fridge and hairdryer.....nice extra! The only drawback was the noise between rooms, but this is common in these converted buildings. All in all very good.

The room was adequate, but pretty stark. Some things seemed to be just for show, such as the heated towel rail, which didn't function at all. Our room looked out over the street and was a wee bit noisy, but that was usually all over by 11pm so didn't worry us - I had ear plugs anyway, but also needed a scarf around my eyes as it was quite light.

I stayed in a large room with a high ceiling. It was clean, comfortable, had a good bed with a firm mattress and a spacious private bathroom. The walls are a little thin, so if your neighbors are loud, it could be a problem.

How to reach Colombo Guesthouse

By car
Exit the autostrada in La Spezia and follow the road signs for the CINQUE TERRE. You will pass through the city of La Spezia and then find yourselves on a rural road. After passing through two tunnels you will see a turnoff for RIOMAGGIORE. Turn here and follow the narrow road to our village. Please contact us in advance so we can explain the parking situation to you (please note that parking is NOT included in the nightly rate).

By train
The Riomaggiore train station is just a two minute walk from our shared office where you will perform check-in (via Malborghetto, 4). Once you have made your way to our office and we have completed check-in we will personally accompany you to your room.

Here are the directions to our office from the Riomaggiore train station:

TIP: If you are arriving by train from La Spezia, keep in mind that Riomaggiore is only an eight minute train ride away (we will be the very first stop). Depending on what train car you are riding in, there is a possibility that when you stop in Riomaggiore you will find yourself inside a tunnel. Double check with other passengers to ensure that you have reached the Riomaggiore stop and then exit the train and proceed through the tunnel until you reach the exposed platform.

-When you exit the Riomaggiore train station, you will find yourself in a small piazza with a fountain and a large mural on the wall to your right.

-Just to the right of the mural you will see a pedestrian tunnel, go through it.

-At the end of the tunnel, the main street of Riomaggiore will be on your left (via Colombo).

-Go up this street approximately 30 yards (less than a minute walking).

-Our office is located on the left (under the portico), next to La Lampara restaurant. You'll see a large sign out front for Mar-Mar (we share an office)… you can’t miss us!

By airplane
The nearest international airports are Pisa & Genoa (Genova) which are serviced by the larger companies as well as the low-cost carriers. Pisa is particularly easy to navigate as the airport is easily connected by train to the main station in Pisa (Pisa Centrale).
