Fantastic location, fantastic building, extremely friendly and pleasant staff; but sadly lacking in finesse. Understand the aim to be rustic; but the room was spartan, very little furniture. no dressing table, no mirrors. We stayed 2 nights. Beds not made, towels not changed or tidied. The restaurant is a superb room; but the food was only ok and not very good value. We travelled independently around Sicily and stayed in several hotels and compared with some of the others this was overpriced. However we enjoyed our 2 days here and would definitely stay again because of the friendly welcoming atmosphere. Quietness of rooms? They have a problem with Martins?? or rodents in roof.

The family is extremely engaging and very nice. We felt at home and the ristorante is excellent. The antipasto is extremely well put together. Our only complaint is that the antipasto left little room for primi piati! I would strongly recommend Villa Rica to my friends and business associates. the view of the Aeolean Islands is a bonus. Thank you for the wonderful introduction into Sicilian culture!

Impossible to exaggerate the excellence of Villa Rica. It looked wonderful from the photos and was even more sensational in reality. We spied it from a distance as we wound up the hillside and hoped against hope that this was where we were going to be staying. When we finally stepped out of the car we gasped at the view from the terrace across the hills to the sea and the Aeolean islands. After the noise of the coast the silence was unbelievably refreshing, as was the immaculate swimming pool and the cool spaciousness of our bedroom. Both bedrooms and restaurant are housed in a magnificent stone building recently restored with impeccable taste. Our welcome was warm and courteous. It's a family-run business and members of the family popped up all over the place, but never intrusively so. We felt as if we were in a 5-star hotel but with a much less starchy atmosphere and much nicer people running it. Our evening meal was copious – the antipasta dishes were a meal in themselves – and delicious. We slept so late the next morning we felt sure we could not expect breakfast, but our hosts insisted that we sit at our beautifully laid table, complete with freshly-picked gardenias, and take our time over the second feast of our stay. This included a selection of exquisite jams all made from their own fruit, orange juice from the surrounding trees, and the lightest of cakes made with nuts from the estate. Sadly we were only passing through on our way to a wedding and could not stay longer, but anyone lucky enough to be able to spend a week or two at the Villa would not be short of things to do and places to visit. Since once of us is a classical scholar, our hosts recommended the nearby Greek theatre and other ruins at Tindari and we were so glad we just had the time to visit these – an absolute must. It was the perfect beginning to our stay in Sicily.
