As New York is really very (to) expensive in matter of sleeping possibilities and relationship between price and quality quite bad, in comparaison Inn Michael is good. This place is very friendly and the landlord always willing to help.We had a good resting time in this place. Thank you.

Very enjoyable stay; there is a relaxed system about getting your own breakfast and also we were welcome to use the kitchen at other times of the day as well. Shared bathroom might not suit everyone. Property is very close to subway. Area felt safe even at night. Host was very welcoming and helpful.

I stayed in September for a one week in MichaelNY and enjoyed my stay a lot. I booked and payed a single room, but suprisingly got a big double room, not bad! The hotel was quite clean, very quiet and comfortable and I slept sometimes even better than at home in Frankfurt... The only thing that disturbed me was the shower, which was permanently installed on the wall above in the bathroom, well it was kind of getting used to, but I guess it is like that in the most hotels in NY. The bathroom was shared used, but indeed always free when I needed it. The part of Harlem where the hotel is located is not at all so noisy or dangerous, at least I didn't feel strange, but in the surroundings there was not really any places to visit, except the Morris-Jumel Mansion Museum and supermarket. Anyhow with the subway C and A I could get in the midtown in about 25 minutes, it was ok. The next time travelling to NY I definitely try to book MichaelNY again and I can warmly recommend it to anybody.

Me and my wife stayed in New York 6 days. The house is 1 minute from the metro. The house is very beautiful and characteristic. Not your usual hotel. The room is big. 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms common. Value for money unbeatable.

Hotel MichaelNY is a really good place to stay at. We would love to come back there again. Michael was really friendly and helpful and the personal computers with internet access in each room was a really good bonus! There were several guidebooks and pamphlets in the common area left by previous guests which made it easier to find out way in the city. Advice: since MichaelNY is in the Uptown part of NY, take the C train(local train = stops at every station) at Amsterdam and 163rd north to 168th then switch to the A-train (express) and you'd be at Times Square in under 20 mins! :)

Very quiet, peaceful place, subway nearby, 20 minutes to Manhattan. Friendly and helpful owner. Kitchen at your disposal. Bedroom a little small, no real wardrobe, this might be a problem if you travel with more than one suitcase. Bathroom could have been cleaned more often. But all in all a good value and a very nice place to stay.

In NY it is a good value for your money. The owner was very helpful. I especially appreciated the laptop and the free internet in the room since I did not bring any with me. Great place to meet and get know people from all around the world, as well. Maybe the only small negative thing is the shared bathroom on the 3rd floor (we tought that we will have our own, but it was actually OK).

We found this to be an economical way to stay in Manhattan. The house is quiet, comfortable and clean. There are a large number of restaurants in the area. Although the house is rather far uptown we did not find this to be a problem as there is a subway stop very close where one can connect to a downtown express train. It was nice coming back in the evening to a quiet area away from the noise and crowds of midtown and downtown. Michael is very helpful with advice about what to do and how to get around and we enjoyed staying with him.

Highly recommeded to those who would like to stay away from midtown, but still have easily access to Midtown within 15-20 min. 1 minute away from subway and supermarket. The host, Michael, is helping you out with the smart things to see and do in NY if you are interested. "Much better than staying in a luxury hotel", was the opinion of my 13-year old daughter.

To summarize briefly: MichaelNY is a good place. All the rooms are clear (including bathroom)and despite the shared bathroom there were no difficulties to use it. Rooms are small but comfortably furnished. Each of them has an own PC which is a good idea. Wireless was a little bit slow. Air conditioning was noisy a little. Nearest Metro station is almost at the house gate so one can get into Downtown within 20 minutes. The precincts (deep Harlem) seemed to be a little bit frightening for the first view, but we did not have any problem all the time (10 days) we spent there. Michael, the landlord is a very kind and helpful guy. It was great to chat with him about the world day by day.

Michael was a very pleasant person and people in the b&b was coming from all over the world, very friendly. There is not private bathroom and this is negative, you have to prepare breakfast by yourself and nobody clean your room during the stay in NY. But the quiteness and the location are the best you can expect!! We will come back early

Michael gives his guests excellent personal welcome and is very accommodating about individual needs. You feel instantly at home, essentially sharing part of his compact 3-storey home, with 24 hour use of guests'shared kitchen/living room. It's a picturesque, historic road, very quiet, situated up some steps off a busy Harlem street and very close to subway, approx 20-25 min from Downtown destinations. The location suited us because it was near to a friend we came to visit. Our only 'complaint' was lack of choice of pleasant eating places in the immediate vicinity. But a useful supermarket is close by and a lovely new wine shop not far. Shared bathroom & shower room was fine-ok, depending on other guests. Internet wireless connection in room was as temperamental as usual! Would definitely book the same again.

I had a rather small room, but that was the only bad thing I can say about this hotel. It is easy to get downtown since there is a subway station close to the hotel. The hotel manager, Michael, was very helpful when it came to guidance for tourist attractions and he was also very service minded. The breakfast was also great. It was a perfect place to stay as a single traveller. I can strongly recommend this hotel to both single travellers and couples. I will definitely come back to this hotel the next time I will visit New York.

Highly recommended if you don't mind being 25 min from downtown by subway. Charming street, nice triple room, however extremely small and less atmospheric single room. Welcoming owner, and nice chats with him and fellow travelers during DIY breakfast in the small common room. A really nice alternative to large chain hotels.

I can only add few words to the previous reviews, that were the main reason in choosing this accommodation: they are all true. High ratings are not excessive, and Micheal is really really... you have to know him :) "CD" just before me was particularly right: can't find better words than those, and I really enjoyed each day of my two weeks in NY. A small hotel in a listed period house on a cobbled street with steps and wooden walls and porches. The owner was as charming as the house itself. The room I thought was spacious for New York standards and I felt instantly at home, the interior clean, modern, but very cosy and atmospheric. A hard mix to find in hotels! I was fast friends with the other inhabitants too - the breakfast room/lounge is shared. It looks out over a courtyard with trees and squirrels. It felt like staying at a friend's place in the best possible way.

It is a friendly place to stay. The place is quiet, clean and the owner is very kind and helpful. There are only four rooms so it's more like being at home. It is quite far from downtown but there is a subway stop at two minutes walking and you can also choose to walk a bit more and find an express line that takes about 20 minutes to downtown.

We've spent 5 great days at Michael's NY in December 07. Michael was very friendly, he helped us finding interesting places, booked up cheap tickets to Broadway and gave us some usuful tips etc. Location is perfect, almost by the subway. It takes 20 minutes to mid Manhattan. Harlem looked pretty safe place even at night. Next time I'll stay there again.

I had a very pleasant stay at MichaelNY, 4 nights from the 14th of september 2007 to the 18th. It's not really an hotel, but the property of Michael, the very friendly owner who lives downstair and rent the rooms of the 2nd and 3rd floor. The house is very stylish (see the photographs on the website), much more good looking than regular hotels. My room was very clean, with a comfortable single bed and a LCD flat panel providing TV (160+ channels) and internet access. The bathroom was clean too. It's a shared one, but as there're maximum 5 guests, it was no problem at all. Each morning, during the breakfast in the kitchen on the 2nd floor, I taught with Michael and the other guests of what we did the day before and what we're going to do on the current day. Michael gave me really good advices (restaurants addresses, places to visit, the best way to go there, ...); it's a kind of service you don't usually have in regular hotels. The only problem was I spent too much with Michael and left too late every day :-). Best of all, this "hotel" is one of the cheapest in New York (I made many searchs). The only downside could be the location. Living in Harlem was really not a problem, as the police and people made this borough quite safe (not as it was in the 70s), but the "hotel" is a little bit far from NY downtown (about 45 minutes using the subway) but it's just a few steps from the 163 Street-Amsterdam subway station. The hotel is not really from the Yankee Stadium. If you plan to stay there on a week end, you should not miss the gospel on the sunday morning, at the Paradise Baptist Church (23 Fort Washington Ave). People, there, are very friendly and it's so refreshing! :-) For sure, if I'll come back to NY, I will go to MichaelNY ! :-)

Some places you just want to keep to yourself. MichaelNY is situated in the most beautiful street of Harlem with all houses from the end of 1800, close to the subway station (around 20- 30 minutes to the heart of Manhatten) and owner Michael is great company. Full of knowledge about NY and can help you with any question on the city, activities, restaurants etc. I realy liked the place a lot, it felt very relaxed and no doubts for me where I will book for my next trip to NY!!
