Inn Bonapace Porta Nolana - Naples

From other information we knew already that it would be a little bit hard to find, but even with some infomation it took as some time to find the place (just a sign on the bell table). But arriving we had a real warm and friendly welcome, as also the service was throughout our stay. Location is good from aspects: near railway station and not far away from old town. But surrounding is not really inviting, we preferred to return not too late in the evenings.

Area close to railway station is not very nice but safe building not atractive but B&B situated at second floor, without lift, is modern and very clean,breakfast is OK and staff very nice.

Directions provided from train station were not clear enough and we ended up getting there the long way. The entrance to the building is via the back street which is not particularly attractive but the interior of Bonapace Porta Nolana is clean, bright and comfortable. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who also gave us information on places to see and eat. The walls are a bit thin where the walls are sealed by false doors, which meant we were able to hear the occupants in the next room...and they probably heard us.

Good location and nice room. The host is friendly and provided useful advice for our trip. We love Pompei, Amalfi Coast and most important to me, the Pizzeria Da Donato (really delicious and of reasonable price). The city is a bit chaotic, which is not the problem of this B&B, but please take care of your belongings when you walk around. The only adverse comment about the B&B is about the cats on ground floor, because I am afraid of cats :P

The hosts are very nice, and sent us careful directions to their place in advance - be sure to read them - Naples is not easy to navigate without help. Despite all kinds of dire warnings, we loved Naples, and the area around the train station is fine unless you come from Beverly Hills. The place is super convenient to the Circumvesuviana line. Breakfast is good, but doesn't start until 9 am on weekends. Walkup, third floor (counting American style).

Had an excellent stay at this very friendly B&B. Donnatella really looked after us, giving us directions and tips. Our room was a haven away from the crazy city of Naples and was clean and comfortable. Breakfast of tea/ coffee with bread and jam was basic, but all that we needed to start the day. Entry into the accommodation could be off putting, but once inside everything was fine. The location is within 10 minutes of the main train station and just around the corner to the station to take you to Pompeii. I would thoroughly recommend this B&B and for the rate of just 45 euro per night, was exceptional value for money.

Good room. Alessandra was very nice (we bumped into her as she was leaving the building and we were entering) and tried to ensure we were happy with the room. Tricky place to find, as there is no sign and it is housed in a building. Doors are a bit difficult to open, breakfast was literally 2 pieces of toast, but the proximity to the train station and the price were the real draw.

Excellent location, very kind, supportive and welcoming staff, good taste and nice fashioned spaces, modern utilities. We fully recommend this B&B for a vacation in Naples and its surroundings.

Good location (10 min walk to main street). The area is a little dirty, but it is not a problem, this is is Naples after all! Rooms and the welcome were fantastic.

Excellent value for money. Bonapace is basic, clean (despite some dustballs under the bed) with a more than adequate breakfast included and served at a communal table. Our quad room was smaller than the photos indicated and one of the single beds was quite uncomfortable but for a short stay it couldn't be bettered in this price range. No where in this area is going to be quiet but the noise from the road was minimised as much as possible through effective double glazing and thick curtains. We all slept well. As other reviewers have recommended - eat at Da Donato, just a few metres away. Pizzas are excellent, pasta adequate, service cheerful.

The owner, Henry, was the best host/B&B owner we have met. He gave us great travel advice. The rooms were remodeled, pretty, quiet, and a respite from busy, hectic Naples. Thanks to Henry!

Bonapace Porta Nolana B&B was truly an oasis. Although we weren't too impressed with Naples itself (as dirty as all the reports said and I felt surrounded by shady-looking characters the whole time), this B&B was exceptional. The owner and staff were exceptional and I felt sorry for them because the garbage situation in Naples (as of June 2008) has clearly cost them a lot of tourism business. The room (triple) was very clean, nicely decorated, and had great air conditioning. Breakfast was very good with typical Italian choices (bread, jam, cheese, etc). The owner, Arrigo, was even nice enough to let us leave our luggage while we spent the day in Pompeii and picked it up on our way out of town. Although I can't recommend Naples, if you go there I can't imagine a better place to stay than Bonapace Porta Nolana. Also, the restaurant a few doors down (Dante's?) was the best food we ate in all of Italy. Pompeii was also excellent. Be careful of pickpockets and tourist scams. I had read the warnings which prevented a 3-person con team from robbing me on a crowded bus (man on crutches pretending to offer directions, young mother, and small boy with arms apparently reaching up for mommy but actually reaching up under my shirt in search of my money.)

Bonapace Porto Nolana was a good choice for us (parents with 2 teenage girls). We had a quad room with a balcony, and noise-proof glass doors. Arreto was the perfect host. He was very accommodating and thorough in all information he gave you. He tries very hard to make your Napoli experience a positive one, even though Naples is not the nicest part of Italy! This is why I gave 'hotel surroundings' a 6 rating. Templetons, San Jose, California

This was my first stay. The neighbourhood is rough and the entrance to the B&B not easily noticed. However, once inside, the facilities are very good though you have a series of four doors to unlock to get into your room from the street. The staff are courteous. The cleanliness is first rate. There is a good breakfast served. This is a good place to stay.

Arrigo the host is one of the gentlemen of this world. He was really helpful to us in finding our way around Naples and for our trips to Ercolano and the Amalfi coast. The B&B is extremely secure and even though the surroundings are not beautiful, the B&B is very convenient for exploring Napoli and for accessing public transport. Plus the interior decoration and furnishings are really fine, and our quad room was spacious and comfortable.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Don't let the area bother you. We were needlessly concerned for the neighborhood. Pulling up in a taxi (which was a rip off), I was sure he had the wrong address. There is a doorbell on the right wall in front of the gate. Looked like a driveway to me. Working class neighborhood, but our room was wonderful, and neighborood people very friendly. From our small balcony, we smelled the heavy garlic of home cooking, and listed to the revelers during the Italy win of the World Cup. What an experience. With the window closed, it was very quiet. I'd stay again in a heartbeat. Great value for a good price

My husband and I were in Naples for one night. I must say that Bonapace Porta Nolana is the nicest experience we had in Naples. Naples is not exacly the nicest city, and a little scary. Dont be afraid when you see the outside of the building, it is not very welcoming, but dont let that deter you, the B&B could not be nicer. As well the owner is extremely nice, he speaks fluent english and he was eager to help us out with any questions we had. Also he helped us find a place to buy luggage, since my zipper had broken off of mine. The price is more than fair. If we ever retun to Naples we would defenately go back.

Overall we had a very good stay at B&B Bonapace Porta Nolana. Arrigo and his employee, SanJee (???) were both very warm and welcoming. They made our stay as good as it was. When we missed our flight to Naples and didn't arrive until late the following morning, breakfast was kept waiting for us and coffee was fresh. The property is close to the train stations (a big priority for us) and we did not hear street noise at night. We heard neighbors a little when they came in, but nothing bad. We were in a quad room and it was very spacious. The only thing that bothered us a little was the mold in the shower. For the price, I felt that the quality and location were great. I would recommend this B&B to people visting Naples. It is very close to the train station and other important means of transportation. It can be a little difficult to find however. The area outside of the B&B is a little intimidating. There were alot of people selling items on the street that looked like they could have been stolen from people's luggage. The area is also quite dirty with trash. We did not venture out at night as we did not feel comfortable. It is important that I mention that nothing bad happened to us and we had no real troubles in the city. We just did not like Naples. It was nice to leave the city for the day and head to Capri or Pompeii. The outside of the B&B is not nice at all. However, once you get past the security gates and walk up all the many stairs with your luggage (no lift unfortunately), the B&B itself is very nice. The owner and staff were very friendly and spoke English well. It was the biggest room my wife and I had on our Italy stay. It was also the nicest room with the best breakfast and overall the best value on our trip. The room was clean, TV worked well and had an English channel which was nice. Air conditioning worked well. There was a balcony so that you could look down on the all the craziness in the streets below and be thankful you were safe in your room. I would not want to walk around at night and thankfully we did not have to. Other than the poor surroundings, the next biggest problem is that the rooms were loud and it was very easy to hear what the guests in the next room were saying and doing. There are stores and pizza places nearby which is nice. Not much variety though. Thanks for the pleasant stay. We likely will not ever visit Naples again, however if we did I would stay here again.

We had a 3 days trip in Naples. The owner, Arrigo is a very kind man. He gaves us useful tips how we could see the most interesting sighteeings in Naples and surrounding area. His advices were also right on where to eat in the city. The hotel is close to any kind of public transport vehicle. If you want a relaxed and enjoyable journey in Naples choose this B&B hotel. Arrigo and ... I think his name is Sanjay, were very helpful. I felt hotel was one of the more beautifully decorated ones we stayed in, though we didn't stay anywhere for over 100 euro. The room quietness got a 6 because the walls were very thin. The surrounding got a 4 because that side of Naples is filthy.

Beautifull room with a view very close to the central bus and train station. There are quite a few stairs up to the B&B.

We were more than happy with Bonapace Porta Nolana - we had a very friendly welcome, excellent instructions for our whirlwind tour of Naples and some very thoughtful security advice. Arrigo also gave us a recommendation for dinner which was excellent (and cheap). Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and had enough space for us and all our stuff. The bed was really comfortable and the sheets were fantastic - the best in Italy!! We had no difficulty finding the hotel, it was an easy walk from the station; although the entrance was described as not being the best, I really didn't find it that bad at all. We had to leave early in the morning and asked if we could have breakfast earlier than normal. Not only was this not a problem, but it was ready even earlier than expected and included freshly baked croissants, fresh rolls, several different jams and spreads,cereal and delicious cappuccini - it was fantastic and we really appreciated the effort. I thoroughly recommend Bonapace Porta Nolana and will definitely stay there again when next in Naples. Thanks Arrigo!!

We had a nice time staying there. I'll stay there again if I travel again. The only thing needed to be improved is the deafening.

What a fantastic place. The room was enchanting, way beyond what you should expect at a price like this. Excellent staff, Arrigo (the owner) and a young man (whose name I can't recall) were both extremely friendly and helpful. Both spoke very good english as well. Thank you very much, we'll be back!

We enjoyed very much our stay at Bonapace Porta Nolana (only 1 night) The service was excellent and very friendly. The only (minor)drawback was that it was a little difficult to find the BB (too small sign) and that the entrance from the street was a little untidy.

One of our best locations in Italy! Arrigo provided a warm and very useful greeting- not only the map of Napoli but also indications about what and how to visit places, and especially how to get there. Location is very convenient, and despite what others have said IT IS NOT SO DIFFICULT to climb those stairs- not if you did it in Italian campanillas (and paid for this as well...). Yes, the surrounding area is not great, but you are near the railway station to visit Pompei, and we visited all the historic center in one (long...) afternoon. One advice: do not accept the room near the breakfast-space- it gets quite noisy early in the morning...

All was very satisfying just we think that the duration of the staying could have been taken into account for the price (we stayed 7 days)

The information about this B@B clearly stated that the exterior and neighborhood were poorly kept, and this was more than true. However, the B@B itself was everything it promised--clean, quiet and comfortable. It was a good stopping point for our trip to Pompeii.

Feels like beeing at home this cosy place. As the owner are so kind and helpful, the rooms are clean and quiet and the breakfast is delicious and plentiful, you would like to stay there longer than intended. The first impression of the surrounding might be disincentive for anxious people, but for getting to know Napoli and for feeling the spirit of the town it is really a perfect starting point. Go there - you will love it!!!

This place was perfect for what we paid for it.. room was nice, breakfast was great.. close to teh train station.. perfect! only thing is that from teh outside, we were scared to go upstairs! The whole area around the train station is just very dirty, including the front door and bottom floor of this place. But once you get up and inside the B&B, it is well worth the stay!

The B&B is very near the mainline, metro & Circumvesuviana railway stations and therefore perfectly positioned for visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, anywhere in or near Naples. Arrigo will email excellent directions for finding the B&B(it is not difficult) We did not find the area intimidating, though quite a culture shock to us as we live in a rural area. We came away feeling we had had a real taste of Naples. We had one of the rooms with kitchenette, everything worked well, and the room was light,clean and comfortable. Good value and highly recommended

Don't be put off by the surroundings and location. A challenge to find but once you've climbed all the stairs you will not be disappointed. Really superb in every way.

From the moment Arrigo came to meet us at the station we knew we were in good hands. The Bonapace is very conveneient for the main station and the Circumvesuviana railway but unfortunately these are in a literally rat-infested part of Napoli. But once you are through the two gates you enter a clean, comfortable and friendly environment. The room was spotless and utterly quiet ( for this you want the inner courtyard rooms) and breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended - especially if like us Napoli is a pitstop on the way to other places.

This is a nice place to stay. The rooms are clean and the showers work well. What else matters? The Staff was friendly and spoke english well, so that was really helpful. The neighborhood is questionable, but so is most of Naples. I would stay here again.

Both the wife and I thought this was a good place to stay. It was close to both train stations and two places to eat near by that where easy on beginners..which were are.

I stayed at this B&B with two other ladies in a triple room for 4 nights. The owner (Arrigo)is very friendly, funny and helpful. You can feel at home and everything in the B&B is so neat and tidy, and more importantly warm. Really value for money. You can get more when you ask for some good tips of tour, food at good prices and internet centre nearby. The breakfast is exceeding our expectation and of good quality. We will definitly be glad to recommend Bonapace Porta Nolana to our friends visiting Naples. For sure if we have another chance to visit Naples, Bonapace Porta Nolana is our first pick.

I was really lucky enough to stay here! Heatwarming welcome,well-cleaned and well-furnished room. If I have chance to go to Naple, I will stay here again. Just one problem is a little bit difficult to find the entrence.

My Girlfriend and I had an excellent time here. Location is not elegant but quiet. Close to Termini and everything. The owner lady (Lordana) is really kind, helpful, always smiling. She explaines you where to go, what to see and together with her two daughters filles your day with sunshine. Be prepared to breakfasts enough for a week :-) We would definitely return.

This is the best bed and breakfast that I have stayed at in all of Europe. I have traveled to many places and have yet to find a place so clean with friendly staff at such a fantastic price. I will definately stay here again when I return to Naples. The area that it is located in is a little decieving because it is so run down but the place is beautiful. All of Naples is run down except for the residential areas. It is in a very centralized location and just minutes from walking to almost everything that you need. The main station is located just 5 minutes walking the station that takes you to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvio is one minute and the buses are everywhere. I highly recommend any one going to Naples stay at Bonapace porta Nolana. We had a great time there. The Staff is wonderful! The owner is such a great guy we really enjoyed his company at breakfast. Thanks for the wonderful stay in Naples!!

This was the best of the best!! It is a beautiful, clean, quiet facility with the most charming hosts! We would come back anytime.

Staff was very helpful, owner very congenial. Directions were accurate but could have been a little clearer. Young woman recptionist from Russia was extremely helpful and pleasant. Owner was very cordial. I am 80 years old and 60 to 70 steps were not easy and should be mentioned. Directions from station should be clarified by reference to stated hotel. Mention doorbell at groundfloor gate. Convience to station was a plus.

As shown in the website, a good place to stay. Near the railway station "Circumvesuviana" to travel to Pompei, Ercolano, Sorrento, Capri... We'll come back.
