Esk Valley Lodge is a fully restored building on the site of one of the earliest farms in the Esk Valley north of Napier. Of its 7 hectares/18 acres of land, 5 hectares/12.4 acres are used for vineyards and the rest is planted with orchards and ornamental gardens. Guests are welcome to wander among the fruit trees picking naturally grown apples, pears, plums, peaches, and much more. You can also play petanque or croquet, or borrow one of the retro-style bicycles to explore the countryside. The proprietors are happy to give a guided tour of the vineyards and teach you about growing grapes.

The hotel is located approx. 13.7 km/8.5 miles north of the coastal city of Napier, called Ahuriri in the Māori language. In the immediate vicinity of the Esk Valley Lodge are several other vineyards and a lavender farm. Some visitors enjoy surfcasting from Whirinaki Beach or fly fishing on the Esk River. Popular attractions in Napier include the National Aquarium of New Zealand, Hawke's Bay Museum and Art Gallery, and numerous Art Deco buildings.
