My room was with shared bathroom, but I had sink. Anyway, it was useless, because there wasn't any warm water. The location is absolutely great! But the room was too noisy - it was right next to the reception.

Absolutely great location, pretty much the only good thing about the hotel. An old house converted into a hotel, so the rooms don't feel like hotel rooms, more like bedrooms in a big house. So hot during the day and the night, too hot to sleep. Should at least install a fan or something. 30 degrees + during the night. Staff friendly. Seemed empty. Only good thing was the location - right on the busiest street in spain.

This place is wonderful! For 30 Euro I got a nice big room with a double bed, a sink, a shower and a TV - I don't think you can find a better deal in Madrid. And the employees, Laura and Roberto, were incredibly nice. Both speak excellent English! Roberto helped me with my computer for half an hour and Laura introduced me to her family. They gave me the best map of the city that I used for my whole trip. The Owner, though she does not speak English, is also very nice and is always around if you need help. The exterior of the place and the entrance are a little intimidating (I had trouble finding it and getting in the first time) but otherwise it's a great place.

I stayed at the hostal as a lone female traveller in my 30's. The location is excellent, with just a 5 min walk to Sol. Even coming back very late at night/early morning, it is a very safe area, no dodgy people lurking about anywhere. It seems to be a bit of a business district, but anyhow extremely safe. Hostal itself was excellent, very clean. Clean bed linen, clean bathroom (no nasty stray hairs in the bath/shower)and you get exactly what pay for. No fuss or frills, just a clean bed in a friendly hostal with very friendly staff. Laura on the reception was fantastic and very helpful. A real gem to find such a nice person to welcome you at the hostal :-) So yes, if you're going to Madrid and want a bed in the heart of the city, by all means stay at Mirentxu! Natasha

I recently stayed here. I feel that overall it's great value for money, and well situated. Very Clean! Furnishings were minimal but adequate. The pipes were a little noisy at night but not unbearable. The only thing that let this hostel down was the lack of help for non-Spanish speaking visitors. The lady running it seemed like she didn't like people & became very frustrated when I didn't understand her Spanish. It would be useful to have signs in other languages to help processes like getting passport details and also showing where to find the local information centre, internet provider. If you would like English speaking staff I recommend Hostal Principado on the first floor of the same building. I stayed there also & it was excellent: http://www.hostalprincipado.com/

If you are an independent Spanish speaker, the Mirentxu can be a great value option. I used to live in Madrid, so I knew it was in a great location that was safe and convenient to all the major sites. I had a single without bath right near the front desk. The proximity was not a problem since the front desk was rarely staffed, and guests are given all the necessary keys upon checking in, so one can come and go at will. The older woman who is there most of the time speaks no English, though some of her younger relatives do. The room was spacious with basic furnishings, and a wash basin with only cold water. The single bed was adequately comfortable. Heating was fine. There was only one electrical outlet in the entire room, though the hotel has excellent free wi-fi. It looked like there might have been water damage at one corner of the ceiling. There were french doors that led out to the air shaft/courtyard that is so common in Spanish buildings. Since my room did not face the street, it was very quiet unless, as happened one night, one of the other tenants in the building decided to have a loud late night party. There were two shared bathrooms (one with toilet, shower, and washbasin; one with just toilet and washbasin) just across the hall from my room. Both seemed to be relatively renovated and were spotlessly clean. There were no lines or long waits to use them during my visit. Probably the biggest drawback to this hotel is the lack of air conditioning, which would be a severe drawback in the summer. And, at peak occupancy, there might be more wait times for the bathrooms and/or increased noise in the hallways. So for a Spanish speaker who already knows Madrid, staying during the late winter off-peak season, this was a great bargain for 28 euros/night.

Hotel Mirentxu is a small hotel, hold by old people who do not speak English nor French at all. They offer a family atmosphere. I appreciated the good nights we spent, very close to the center yet protected from the noise because the hotel is located in a small street a bit aside from the night-lively area.

This was a great place if you are staying on a budget and not minding sharing a bathroom. My room was equipped with a sink and a shower, but the shower was so small I used the the public bathroom anyway. The owners are elderly and and very sweet, but they speak no English at all. I do not speak Spanish, but somehow we were able to get across what we were saying most of the time. Very clean and very comfortable rooms.

The people in charge of this hostel are very very nice and very very accommodating. The rooms were very clean and we didn't feel that we had to worry about our stuff getting stolen or anything. There isn't really a "view" to be had, as you face the wall of another building. It was VERY loud at night, but by no fault of the hostels. The lack of air conditioning was probably the biggest downfall, as it was extremely hot during summer in madrid and, as i said before, at night the city is very loud. had we had air conditioning, we could have shut the window and been fine. As far as location in the city, it's excellent. In summary: PROS- nice people; safe, central surroundings; clean rooms CONS- no air conditioning, loud nightlife and (and this is sooooo very minor) you can't see the TV from the bed. you have to stand up to see it. :D I would stay here again, but only if i came at a different time of year when it was cooler and only if it were a little cheaper.

Hostal is in an excellent location. The Thyseen is literally down the street, and in general the historic/museum district of Madrid is pretty small. So pretty much everything is within walking distance. The only downside of the place is that the older lady that works there doesn't speak English (very common in Madrid). It took us about 30 minutes the night before we left to figure out where to leave our keys when leaving early the next morning. The younger man that also works there spoke English, but we didn't see him other than when we checked in.

Mirentxu is perfect for someone needing a place to stay while they get out and about in Madrid. The rooms are clean, tidy and basic, no fuss is made and you can come and go as you like. I got to the right street fine, but had some difficulty finding it as it shares the building with a few hostels and is on the third floor so its sign is less prominent.

I stayed in a private double. We had our own shower. It was great. No public kitchen, but we used it accidentally, and they were not too mad. So don't make the same mistake. Provided blow dryer and clean towels every day! Only had a dining room as public area during breakfast, but looked very nice. Our room was one of the few that was near the kitchen, and therefore noisy in the morning. Seemed like all other rooms are very quiet. ATMs and lots of good restaurants and bars nearby. All big museums are completely walkable distance, as well as shopping and great restaurants.

Hotel Mirentxu is in an excellent location within easy walking distance from subway access and principal sights in Madrid. I had a single room, which was not air-conditioned nor did it have a fan, and I was there in mid-summer. My nights in the hotel were not pleasant because of the heat (I had to drape a wet towel over myself!). The room was very small and this is not a hotel in which to spend any time during the day except for sleeping (other rooms might have been better). However, for a budget traveller and for non-summer travelling, I would still highly recommend this hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly and spoke a reasonable, minimum level of english, and the hotel was conveniently located and inexpensive.

We payed 45EUR for a double bed room per night at Hostal Mirentxu, so we're not expecting much. It turned out to be a perfect place to stay in Madrid during a weekend trip! Perfectly located - close to Sevilla subway station, between Puerta del Sol and Prado Museum. Our room was nicely furnished and our bathroom was clean. Instead of a double room we got a double+single bed but it was allright. We had a balcony facing a small one-way street. Staff was very friendly and they let us leave our luggage until 10pm the last day. The "mean old lady" who I read about before at Tripadvisor, turned out to be a nice person, but to communicate in English she called a younger woman. No cons, just pros!!

Basic but clean hostel in an excellent location (5 mins to walk to all major sites and night life), owners speak little if any english but it didn't really pose a problem. We didn't have a tv in our room as stated on the hotel's page andf although the hostel had a communal tv room it wasn't used and we didn't get to meet any other travllers. The location of this hostal is wonderful, if you can find it at the first place; the instruction given on the website is too general and it took me over an hour to find this place. The surroundings of the hostal is rather quiet, but it's very close to SOL, which is the advantage. The room is basic but clean, staff are very friendly, but don't speak much English though. In conclusion, good place to stay if you are just looking for a quiet, basic bedroom in Madrid.
