Inn Affittacamere Stella - Lucca

Closer to a hostel environment than a hotel. Limited check in times. Community kitchen a plus, but no other "public areas." Biggest plus is having parking and being within walking distance of the walled city. Nearby "local" restaurant for coffee and morning pastries.

We stayed in room number 3 and 4, which were two beautiful rooms. We were such surprised how nice the rooms were. We always made our dinner at Stella directly. The nice kitchen in the ground floor gave us the possibility to spend a great time at dinner.

Stanza pulita, bagno nuovo. Centro storico facilmente raggiungibile anche a piedi. Vicino ad una strada un pò rumorosa e ad una scuola...può risultare fastidioso solo a chi è abituato alla calma della campagna. Pasticceria buonissima a meno di 50 metri. (prima colazione non inclusa)

We stayed at Affitamcamere Stella for 1 week in early July 2008. The hotel is surrounded by building sites, which we weren't warned of and the first room we were allocated (Room 1) meant we were awoken before 7am in the morning. It took 2 days for them to allocate us another room, which was meant to be quiet, but in fact not only had the noise of the building site all day, but also a very loud extractor fan from the patisserie next door from around 3am each morning. A number of the services advertised e.g. internet access and a shuttle service to and from the airport, do not actually exist, which is very misleading. The photographs are also misleading and show the brightest room in the property. The others are a lot darker and more cramped. Cleanliness was fine, although cleaners smoked in the kitchen and throughout the property, which wasn't very pleasant. Good location, 5 mins from city walls, but otherwise not good value for money.

Very nice place if you want to be independant. This is not an hotel but more a "gite". So you can use the kitchen. Well situated (5" away from downtown). There is a nice cafe next to this place.

We had a very pleasant stay! The B&B is only 5 min walk from the wall of Lucca. The kitchen is simple but enough for making a cup of thea or coffee. The rooms are big en clean. There were plenty of towels in the room (6!!) and the shower was wonderfull! The pastry near the B&B is very good!!

The pictures of the rooms on Venere looked much bigger & brighter than the rooms actually are. The text was slightly misleading when it said 'internet service available' because the only internet was by using the office computer between the hours of 3-7 IF the manager didn't need it. The rooms were very noisy: during the day a construction site is next door & at night a jazz club operates directly opposite the building.The refrigerator in the kitchenette was kept locked most of the time, so if you wanted to keep food in there it would be impossible to access it when no staff were around (most of the time). On the plus side, Serena is very nice & accomodating; she understood that the lodging did not meet my minimum requirements & offered a free upgrade for the 1 night I did stay.
