The Relais Cavalcanti is conveniently situated in the centre of the city . The staff are all out to help and the place is kept clean . No breakfast is offered but one can use a public area to make his own coffee or tea. The only drawback being when one finds another resident making full use of the kitchen and filling the place with unwelcoming odours leaving you with no option but to take a coffee from outside !Notwitstanding this the place is recommendable .

This was an AMAZING stay. It was in the heart of everything, the rooms were comfortable and the amenities amazing. The staff were more than happy to arrange trips and taxis for me, or phone for information to places. In truth, the people at Relais Cavalcanti bend over backwards for the customer. I would stay in this establishment again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful place to stay, a real home from home. Anna was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Room was cleaned daily and air-con was very welcome with 45 degrees outside. Lots of lovely personal touches made it feel like staying with friends. I would recommend Relais Cavalcanti as the only place to stay in Florence.

We travel and stay throughout Europe quite a bit, and we had a nice enough stay at this hotel/townhouse. Although the room was a little smaller than anticipated, the bathroom was spacious and clean. That being said, there were a few issues that were not advertised accurately, and these include: 1) there was NO INTERNET access in the room -had to go to lobby although it was advertised as having internet in the room - VERY disappointing 2) There was no breakfast, just some pre-packaged cakes and cookes in a kitchen area --although having access to the kitchen area was GREAT! 3) We had someone enter our room just before 9am the first morning without warning --presumably to clean it (?) and this was not appreciated. 4) two twin beds were pushed together to form our "double bed", but they were of different heights and did not make for the most comfortable/romantic night's sleep. That being said, the good things about the place included: 1) Location 2) Access to the kitchen area 3) Courtesy map from reception including pre-marked recommended restaurants, markets, and landmarks. 4) Decor of both the public areas and the room. Unfortunately, because of the lack of internet access in the room, we would not likely stay there again.

My sister and oldest daughter had stayed here on a previous trip and recommended it to us for our stay in Florence. We booked two rooms, 1 for my husband and myself, and the other for our younger daughter. The rooms were quite large with modern bathroom facilities. Although breakfast is not included, little snacks, cookies, cakes, coffee, are provided in a large room with a full kitchen and plenty of seating. Anna, Lorenzo , and Francesca, the hosts, are wonderful. Very helpful with dining recommendations and booking tours. To top it all off is the location of the property which is fantastic!! I would highly recommend Relais Cavalcanti and plan to stay there again in the future.

A beautiful and serene place to stay. Despite the central location, the windosw kept the noise out and the super cool air conditioning in. The kitchen area was lovely too. Places like this are far more welcoming, charming and better value for money compared to faceless hotels. Would love to return.

This was in the perfect location, was extremely clean, and so spacious. I am definitely going to stay here again when I return to Florence. This was by far the best hotel I've stayed at in Italy. I was so amazed at how wonderful it was; especially for the price. This hotel deserves a 10 out of 10. The ceilings were high and the bathrooms were enormous. I couldn't possibly have picked a better place to stay.

English: Excellent B&B. Centrally located, large rooms, beautifully decorated. No breakfast but lovely self service breakfast room plus small fridge.

Anna greeted us with warmth and kindness. She presented us a map of Florence, on which she had highlighted all of the top cultural and historical spots to visit, as well as recommended restaurants. It made walking the city very easy. We took her advice on dining at Mariano's and were not disappointed. Our 21-year-old daughter accompanied us unexepctedly, and Relais Cavalcanti was able to accommodate her in a single (lovely) room. While our room was above the Irish Bar, when we closed the double set of windows, we heard nothing at night. I think they close by 1:00 a.m. or so. Footsteps and Francesca's heels in the hallways were louder than the bar! I travel with earplugs for just such stays. The room was quiet nice, with a brand new bathroom. I would stay here again for the personal attention, the quality of the room and the great location.

Right in the center of town. Incredibly welcoming hostess (Anna for us). Comfortable rooms; shared breakfast area with coffee, tea, and various cakes provided - I just nipped around the corner to a grocery store for milk, cereal, bread, etc. Only one small niggle: my shower was rather cool. Excellent location just over one block from the Uffizi, overlooking the market and "wild boar" statue. Superior rooms have view over rooftops of Duomo or top of Uffizi. Located on fourth floor but twenty steps to elevator from entrance. Warm, friendly welcome by staff who are on duty only during daytime, meaning this is almost a private apartment concept. Snack room is stocked for a light continental breakfast. Small number of rooms so quite cozy.

The Relais Cavalcanti was a nice hotel, with an excellent location in Florence. This was our first stay there. The staff was excellent and very helpful; they not only gave us excellent restaurant recommendations and directions, but also secured museum reservations (Accademia and Uffizi) for us well in advance of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations - priced commensurately with the quality of the service and lodging. We would absolutely stay there again, based on the awesome location-minutes (on foot) from the best sights and sites in Florence!

We arrived by train from Bologna (where we should have stayed 3 days instead of 2) and decided to walk from Santa Maria Novella to the Relais; with 2 wheeled carry-ons took us less than 15 minutes to arrive. As clearly indicated in Francesca & Anna's e-mail, it is the door right close to the Old Stove Irish Pub. Francesca welcomed us very enthusiatically and marked in a map all places (besides the already marked and obvious ones) we were planning on going to, e.g. Osteria della Belle Donne (simple, good), Teatro del Sale (a must), Il Rifrullo (so so), Trattoria Garga (best dinning experience in the whole trip), Trattoria Quattro Leone (we couldn't go but Francesca strongly recommends it) and also some interesting bars, places for a lite lunch (e.g. sushi) and grocery stores. We stayed in Florence for 5 nights, from Wednesday to Monday morning. It's definitely an impressive city for all its history and numerous and well preserved artistic treasures (my personal favourites were Il Bargello and the Church of San Miniato al Monte). But it is also one that should also be enjoyed for its every-day pleasures, like walking its narrow streets eating gelato, people-watching, window-shopping, etc. For people enjoying nice dinners out, my advice is to leave home 1 hour before the restaurant reservation (note: most good restaurants require reservations a couple days in advance) and go to a good bar for aperitif time, where several types of small dishes (i.e. tapas) are passed along, on the house if you order at least 1 drink. Our favorite bar was Golden View Open Bar, where Fabiano prepares any cocktail with admirable artistry and attention to detail; another good spot but less personable was Noir. For after dinner, good bars/lounges are Slowly, Zoe, Sei Divino, Colle Bereto and Negroni. Another fun thing we did was taking a bike tour to Fiesole with ibikeitaly.com; our guide was Bill Dillon who has been living in Italy for 15+ years and was pleasant and knowledgeable.

Overall, a good B&B but could have been better if there is a 24hrs service counter. Staff was only around between 9am to 1pm every day and everything was very much Do it Yourself. However, they have given good tips on where to go and where to eat Restaurant recommended was so great!!! More for independent traveller with light luggage as u have to climb a long flight of stair before hitting the elevator :)

Once you have made the reservation they send you an email including detailed information and very good advice about everything you need to know, and are very responsive answering any questions you make. Francesca is very friendly and helpful, you will get the finest treatment. If you get to Florence late in the evening by car (a rented one) and have to park it overnight it is better to use the car park at the actual car rental office as they have it open till very late at night, even if the office is closed. Be aware that the car parks in Florence are very expensive plus it is difficult to drive in the city centre. Enjoy Florence!

We loved our stay in Florence. The directions provided were exact, we found the place easily. There are a few stairs to carry bags up to the first level, but from there, there is a lift. Anna was very very friendly. She settled us into our room and gave us a map, and information on laundromats, restaurants, sights etc. The room was clean, beautiful, decorated with old-fashioned furniture, and the bathroom was clean, spacious and modern. The rooms were cleaned daily and towels changed. The breakfast room was perfect- there was always little cakes and biscuits available for breakfast or any time of the day. My husband and I found a lovely food market in San Lorenzo and came back to the breakfast room to prepare ourselves lunch one day! The location was perfect- Florence is very small, so it is very easy to walk everywhere, to sights, to restaurants etc. There is an Irish pub downstairs, but if you keep the window closed (there is AC- which took a while to work, but eventually did kick in), then you can't hear any noise. We loved our stay at Relais Cavalcanti, and we would definitely go back! They even gave us a 10% discount for paying cash.

The proprietors were very clear about the fact that their relais is NOT a hotel which is important to understand. It's kind of like borrowing a friend's apartment. They were kind, helpful, and speak perfect English. Unfortunately, the girl who checked us in was sullen, unwelcoming, and extremely unhelpful and sadly, detracted from our overall experience. The location is absolutely superb for a quick visit to Florence though we would have stepped up the accomodations had we stayed more than two or three nights. The rooms are just steps away from the famous "Porcellino" (lucky boar) bronze sculpture at the market. The rooms are very clean, bathrooms modern, the owners gracious and kind, and clear in their communication.

This was a great place to stay, easily placed to explore the usual tourist attractions of Florence. My 11 year old daughter and I were only in Florence for an afternoon, a full day and a short morning, so our ability to see much was limited by our itinerary not the location of the apartment. We were given plenty of advice about where to find attractions, eat out, shop, find supermarkets etc and I would certainly stay here again for a longer period. I could not find a fridge to keep things cold, but suspect there was one with a key. We didn't bother due to our short stay and the fact that we always ate out, but you could easily cook simply in the kitchen. A kettle in the room would be useful to save a long walk from some of the rooms to the kitchen meaning you have to be dressed to make that early morning cuppa if you're wont to have one like me. A short cab ride to the railway station meant it was inexpensive, but you could easily walk it if you don't have too many bags. Incidentally, there are a number of stairs to climb from street level, but once you're in your room, they are not a problem. There is a lift from the first floor up, which is tiny, but fit 3 bags, my daughter and I, even if the bags were stacked up!

My sister and I stayed in the Donatello room. It was a nice size room with comfortable beds and nice bathroom. It also has a great view of the Nuovo Market. The windows are double-paned which made it very quiet; we didn't hear any street noise. The Relais Cavalcanti is very close to the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery -- great location! Be prepared for stairs though! There are about 22 that you need to climb to get to the elevator which will then take you to the 3rd floor. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Relais Cavalcanti in July 08.We cannot recommend it enough to people visitng Florence.Anna and Francesca are two sisters who run the place.Even before we got there their excellent service floored us..They offered to book tickets to the Uffizi and L'accademia free of commission to save us the trouble of standing in long queues. Once we got there we were really happy we booked there as it was as close to home as one could feel. Not only is the place spotlessly clean but airy and always smells wonderful. Both Anna and FRancesca were the perfect hosts. When we got in they gave us a map and told us places to see,to eat, visit, etc. They were also helpful in planning our day trips to outside Florence by giving us train details and other information. Location wise,we couldn't have asked for better. It was within walking distance to everything. Breakfast is not served but they have a dining room with cookies, cakes and pastries for the guests which is generously stocked. There is a small library in the dining room of travel books on Florence,Tuscany and Italy which proved to be very useful. Relais Cavalcanti has warmth,is personal and offers service which that no hotel can match upto.

The Relais Cavalcanti is located in the heart of Florence. You are within steps of the Straw Market, Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Duomo. Francesca was the most welcoming b&b host we have ever experienced. She outlined detailed recommendations for restaurants, shops, groceries, and attractions on a map of Florence and provided tourist tips for everything in Florence. She was truly one of the nicest people we have ever met. The common rooms include a small seating area and a breakfast room. In the breakfast room there is jam, dry cereal and cookies, as well as tea bags, ground coffee, plates, mugs, silverware, and pots and pans with a small kitchen area (sink, stove) and dining table for all the guest to use. We grabbed some milk, juice and fruit at a nearby market, and ate cereal each morning in the breakfast room for a quick start to the day. The room was pretty spacious with a bed, armoire, and desk. The bathroom was long and skinny. The room was clean and quaint. The only downsides were on the "comfort" side of things. The beds were extremely firm, and the towels were like a waffle-style dishtowel. Also, we were right above the Irish pub, and while it wasn't outrageously loud, you could hear the revelries of the pub downstairs a bit. Also, the inn is on 3rd floor of the building, and the elevator is teeny-tiny (no more than 2 people could fit in my opinion), so if you were a large group or claustrophobic, you might get sick of all the stairs. There is also one flight of stairs until you get to the elevator, but it isn't a huge deal. Make sure you practice with the key while the staff is there, so you can get the hang of it, it is a bit tricky. Overall, we loved the location and hospitality at Relais Cavalcanti. If the beds and towels were a bit more comfy, it would have been perfect! But as it stands, it was a good value.

It's a cute little townhouse. The bathrooms were really nice. I have no complaints about this place. Location was great. The inn is very conveniently located to the major attractions of Florence. For an inn in this location, it is also very reasonably priced. The staff member that greeted us supplied us with a map of the area on which were already marked some recommended restaurants, shops, Internet cafes, etc. This was very helpful particularly on the arrival night to be able to find a restaurant close by. The inn has a great large room that you can relax in, play cards after a long day, or even cook a meal! We enjoyed purchasing items for our meal and also to take home at the Centrale Market which was also indicated on the map. It is a great place to go to get the flavor of the local cuisine offerings. One of our trips was a slightly longer walk but we had read great reviews about a fantastic pizzeria in the Jewish Ghetto area. The reviews were all accurate. Wonderful pizzas and calzones. Our only problem which we knew we would have in advance and the owners of Cavalcanti had warned us about was parking of our car. In Florence there is no parking available on the streets so it costs us 30 euro per day for the car. If you have no use for a car, then I would not recommend having one. We had driven up from Rome and spent two nights in San Gimignano on the way. Then we went to Pisa and Lucca for a day. One more day was spent in Asissi on our return to Rome. So for the four of us, it probably worked out having a full week car rental even though we had to pay so much to garage the car in Florence.

Location, location, location! I think the only better place would be a 5 star hotel but you would pay $1000 per night. This place is clean, cute, 5-10 minute walk from the Duomo... Unfortunately, the elevator doesn't start at the bottom so it would be difficult for a person with a disability to get up there.

The location of this property could not be better. Stairs, small lift, 5 keys and limited attendant were all known and only minor drawbacks to a charming, spacious and clean place to stay. The water temperature and pressure in the shower was moderate. Any outside noises were blocked out by efficient windows. There is quite a bit of noise within the property and if you have guests moving about, socializing and gathering in the common breakfast room while you are trying to sleep, this could be an issue. The snacks provided were a nice touch although if you see something in the evening that you might want the next morning, you should take it then. Many of the snacks disappeared overnight and the supplies weren't replenished until the afternoon. One bottle of Coke and one water bottle were supplied in the small fridge in our room upon arrival. While staying 3 nights, I think it would have been a nice touch to replace each day. This was our experience in Venice and Rome. I would stay here again and would recommend Relais Cavalcanti to anyone who doesn't require luxurious accommodations, is okay with staff only on premises part time and would like to be in the center of all the sights in Florence. A real value!

The owners were wonderful and the rooms were great. BUT, there were people outside our window until 2am to 3am all 3 nights yelling and screaming and running motor bikes. Even with the windows closed it was horriblly noisy and intrusive. It made for a terrible stay as we were exhausted from lack of sleep each night. In fact, on our last day in Florence we were so tired we had to stay in our room during the day as it was quiet enough for us to sleep.

This place is really great - the location is unbeatable for the price. The only issue that I had was that my room was located above a busy Irish Pub and there were parties all through the night. Bring your earplugs. I would definitely stay there again as the price, comfort, and location are unbeatable! Its steps from the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio and has a delightful market out back.

The location of the property is superb! Few minutes from the Ufizi Gallery and not far away from other sights. And moreover, a kind of piazza on which the hous is located is very Italian. The room is nice and clean and cosy. We stayed in a standard room with a view to a narrow street (to be more precise with a view to a wall :) but it did not bother us at all, as we rarely were at home. The windows are really sound-proof. The guests can also use a public kitchen which is very nice and cosy and where they are offerred tea and coffe and buisquits (self-service and free) - enough for the early morning breakfast. The owner, Anna, was very friendly and helpful. The only uncomfortable thing for us was the necessity to drag our heavy suitcases along those 21 steps from the entrance door to the elevator ))) Thank you for the nice stay!

Stayed 3 nights in Oct 07. Excellent location in the centre of all the main attractions, though Florence is easily covered on foot. Though there is a lift you cannot avoid about 20 steps at the entrance. Comfortable room with double layer of double glazing to keep out any noises and a good big bathroom. Facility to make drinks in the kitchen and a fridge in room to store milk, yoghurts etc. made it easy to make breakfast or have a quick snack/drink. Anna had an anotated map for each guest showing everything you could need (e.g. grocers, supermarkets, restaurants, attractions, bus stops). She was only too happy to answer any queries and proved very helpful. Trattoria Nella just 2 minutes away was recommended by Anna and was excellent both at lunch and evening.

Beautiful B&B in the centre of Florence - very handy to everything and with one of the most helpful hosts I've ever come across. As it's in the centre of town and has tiled floors, you might need earplugs if you're a VERY light sleeper, but fine otherwise. They don't do breakfast officially, but in the breakfast room there's complimentary snacks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc so it's actually better than many other 'official' breakfasts. The only disadvantage is that due to family commitments, you will need to arrange an early or late arrival in advance, but it's worth it!

I found negotiating the numerous stairs, especially with luggage, a problem. Also I understand trying to save on electricity, but having unlit stairs and having to turn on lights constantly not only annoying, but dangerous when carrying my computer to the common area. The wireless internet connection did not work in my bedroom. The walls are too thick. So I had to find an area near the router in the office in which to use it. There was a distinct odor in the building I did not care for. I think Relais Cavalcanti is an adequate place you young people with backbacks or very little luggage. It is not suitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs.

My friend and I had a great time in Florence, and found the Relais Cavalcanti a perfect place to stay. The single rooms were much roomier than we had previously experienced anywhere else, and you could not have had a more central location. We loved the 'kitchen' area and the fact that coffee, tea etc. plus cakes and biscuits were freely available all day. Anna (who speaks excellent English) was extremely helpful with potentially complicated things like, booking taxis, finding good restaurants and all the other stuff which you don't want to take up precious time. We packed so much into our 4-days, it was like staying a month! We will definitely be back, and staying at Relais C, and will recommend it to our friends.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Francesca was extremely nice and gave us very helpful information. It was in a great location, within easy walking distance of the major sights. But since it was close to the markets, you could hear the vendors rolling their carts through the streets every morning. If you are a light sleeper or like to sleep late, I would suggest ear plugs. But we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in another room the 1st night that was directly above the Irish Pub. It was quite noisy, so Francesca was kind enough to move us to a spectacular room overlooking the Palazzo Vecchio. It made all the difference in the world and ensured us of a wonderful stay at the Relais Cavalcanti. Price was reasonable considering it was Easter in Florence.

A little loud from the Irish Pub on the first floor but the window was new and sealed out most noise. We had problems with the fact that there is no desk service after 7:00pm. While we had keys to get in and out at will, when one of our party arrived very late, she had no way of contacting us inside our room. Otherwise this was a very nice triple room, roomy and comfortable. The common room has snacks and coffee/tea making stuff - open all the time - very nice. Easy walking distance to everything.

Great to be able to make your own breakfast and not have to follow a schedule. They were very generous with the amount of food offered. Relais Cavalcanti is very close to the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, and an open air market. Lots of good restaurants nearby. It was quiet considering the nearness of the market and an Irish Pub located in the bottom of the same building. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless. Francesca was the greeter and was wonderful. She is extremely helpful and even marks free maps with grocery stores, restaurants, etc, and gives each guest one. Great location. Can be a little noise early morning when the new market is being set up, but location more than makes up for it. If you have a room on the front side, you can lean out the window and see most of the domo dome. Easy walking distance to all the sights. Is on deadend street so no traffic and rooms have double windows. Air con works very well and was no extra charge for it. Have one flight of stairs to the elevator. There are snacks and make your on coffee and tea. Irish pub on front with good beer and wonderful restaurant (even mentioned in Rick Steves) on ground floor. Back side overlooks the new market. Only negative was too many keys (4), but is manageable. Another reviewer was correct - it does have the softest toilet paper in Europe. Will definitely stay there again.

The hotel is in a great location, walkable to all sights in old Florence. Francesca greeted us and gave us maps and suggestions for grocery stores, etc, which was very helpful. She is delightful. There's a large room with a supply of snacks, coffee and tea, a nice place to sit and meet other guests and prepare whatever food you bring in. People who say it is noisy haven't tried closing the double windows, which blocks out street noise very effectively. If the weather is hot, there's an air conditioner. This was the largest room we stayed in on our entire trip, with a nice bathroom. Highly recommended.

location is between ponte vecchio and duoma. a public market below, fun to watch the action. sometimes a musician would play under the window for pleasure and tips. i stayed in the Boticelli room, w a view from the bed of the Medici palace's clocktower! room big, clean and perfect. bathroom elegant w marble, window, bidet, and nicest tp i've ever used! room had a little fridge, armoir, desk, chairs, extra blanket. open sitting area near front door and office, and down the hall is the kitchen with dining table, snacks, stove/oven, sink, books and most dry goods needed (but no fridge). only nuisance was needing 5 keys (front door, elevator, entry to RC's property, room door, and key to turn on electricity). be sure to hit button in hallway to turn on stair lights so you can see in the dark (it goes off automatically). 21 steps to elevator landing. irish bar below had fabulous sandwiches. the windows close out any noise, but i liked listening to the hub-bub below. RC arranged taxi to airport on departure date, which was very well appreciated. leather goods salesman near entrance is handsome and will really try to sell you his goods. women wear skirts or shorts in town - i wore jeans one day and two different waiters called me "sir." the exchange rate at a currency exchange by the duomo was 57%! 100 USA = 57 euro! don't do it! it was a perfect room in the most beautiful city in the world!

Nice place. There is a flight of stairs before getting the elevator. Bring earplugs. Food in Florence, especially pizza, is not as good as in the rest of Italy, so save money and buy food at Markets or stores and cook it yourself in the kitchen. If you go to the main food market, get a beef sandwich at the place inside in the close corner (forgot the name). Busiest place. Go to Bobali gardens too. Spend a day there.

Our flight was late and we missed the train from Rome and we were hours late. Andrea waited for hours until we showed and she was funny and engaging and put us a in a great mood. She gave us a map within the first ten minutes and showed us well-priced restaurants, grocery stores, interesting attractions and the tourist traps. It all came in handy. The room was so quiet I was surprised at how noisy it was outside when I opened the window the first morning. This wasn't the case of the other Italian inns that we stayed in. The bathroom was big and clean and tiled almost to the ceiling. The location is exellent. We were able to walk everywhere from our room. It's very close to the dome and even closer to the river. They didn't offer a full breakfast, but the breakfast room was large and we shopped every morning at a nearby market for fresh Italian bread, fruit, cheese and yogurt. We also did the same for lunch and dinner a few times. It was a lot less expensive than eating out everynight. They also had a lot of sweet snacks around for munching and coffee and tea for brewing. It's not a full-service hotel, but if you prefer B&B's like we do, it's hard to beat. Anna is a great host and she made us feel at home. I never officially met Francesca, but she was always smiles as we left the building each morning for the sites. If we ever return to Florence, we won't consider staying anywhere else.

My single room was small, but had a very nice modern bathroom. The furnishings were simple but stylish and full of character. Relais Cavalcanti covers just two sections on two floors of the old townhouse, with the remainder occupied by private apartments. My room was on the upper level, while the main reception, sitting and kitchen areas are on the lower one. It was no real inconvenience, but I did have to go out to the main stairwell and down to the next landing to get to the shared parts. That brings me on to the shared kitchen. A very nice room with facilities for making tea and coffee, and some free biscuits and cakes provided. In fact, on Easter Sunday the residents were given three very nice large Easter cakes. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and perfectly fluent in English. The location of Relais Cavalcanti is perfect: all the major points of interest in the old city are within a hundred metres or so. I particularly liked to go up to the Piazza della Republica in the evenings to enjoy the atmosphere. On the ground floor of Cavalcanti's building is a very lively Irish pub: The Old Stove. The staff here are friendly and fun, the music is varied (though sometimes not loud enough!) and the Guinness is good. The Old Stove stays open until 0230 and on a couple of occasions I was in bed before then and could hear a bit of noise down below, but it was not too disturbing. The rooms on that side have triple glazing.
