The hotel is very close to Rifredi Railway station, at 7 min from downtown Florence. This is a budget hotel, clean and comfortable. However, it is located at the third floor with no lift!

We stayed at Girasole B&B for the New Years' Eve in a triple room. The B&B is very well furnished, the room is quiet, the service is excellent, the personnel is friendly and available. It is a bit far from the city centre, you need to take a train or a bus to reach it. But if you have a car there is no problem. I would definitely come back.

Room is very noisy, but the property has a good bus and train connection to the city center. It was hard to find the property in the city, because we didn't know that the house is just few steps from the Rifredi Railway Station, so don't follow the signs for the hospital rather than the station. You can't park at the street of the house, but there is a parking place at the station for 4 EUR/day, which wasn't in order, so we could park there for free.

Girasole House, operated by a one-man show (having problems with his wife, he tells me) is at the top of 3 (very high) flights of stairs. Carefully consider this when booking - I would look elsewhere if carrying a suitcase heavier than 50 lbs. It's located in a busy suburb of Florence, with nothing to do at night, although the trains (and buses) run late into the evening to this location. The establishment is quite basic, with a very small TV in each room and personal A/C (which you are told to keep off at night... yeah, I'll get right on that). You don't really stay here for the room - it's the price and location that make this place bearable. Girasole house is conveniently located just a hundred feet from the train station, which takes you to downtown Florence for one Euro. Don't ask me how you buy tickets from the train station near Girasole house, because my wife and I couldn't figure it out (from the central station, it's very easy). You'll learn pretty quickly not to worry about not buying tickets anyways. This place was handy for us because we had a rental car, and there was free parking on the street. Even with GPS, it's a bit tricky to find because it's the industrial building with the ridiculously small sign on the side. Ask for directions to the train station (when you're close), and you'll find it with some luck. Keep in mind that the operator doesn't speak a lick of English, so if you're hoping for some local advice, look elsewhere. Breakfast was supposed to have been provided, but with the marital troubles, there was no one to do the cooking. We were given business cards with a signature on it that were good for redeeming for food at the local cafe on the corner. That in itself isn't bad if you're eating light, but if you like taking advantage of buffet breakfasts then it's a bit odd to do this at the cafe. In any case, we started loading up on Gatorade which made it worthwhile. Overall: 6/10

Owner was very friendly though his English was not very clear. Hotel is not near the main train station it is near the other train stop in Florence. This was confusing and took a little while to find. When we found the right stop it was right there. Beautiful place, very clean room and bathroom. Breakfast was wonderful.

The location of the B&B 1/2 block from the outlying rail station meant that we were just 5 minutes from Santa Maria Novella which is in the heart of town. tickets were ~ 10c. more than bus tickets, and service was mostly fine. Air quality was a lot better, and the streets were less crowded there too. Vitorio who answered our call and met and admitted us to the B&B was not only efficient and courteous, he has been working at learning English! He also speakes his Italian clearly and slowly to help anyone trying to grasp that language. Breakfast was fine, and the room was always well cleaned. We'd stay again, without hesitation.

Positive: very close to the train station, clean overall, quiet. Negative: room heated only to 66 F. maximum, less-interesting industrial neighborhood, filthy spare blanket.

Vittorio was nice but the breakfast was poor. ie it was very small, no fresh bakery products only pre packed, and the first day we had bread that was several days old. He kept forgetting to bring us butter although there was jam. This is very expensive, it is probably only worth 50-60 euros per night.

Our stay at the Girasole House was very pleasant - very accomodating owner, happy to help with any and all issues, nice clean rooms, and excellent pastries for breakfast. The only problem was that it was pretty hard to find the place. We arrived in our rental car around midnight but the owner was kind enough to wait for us outside for quite a while until we finally found it.

Girasole House is in a residential neighborhood outside the historic district. We walked and took a bus to the inn, then discovered that the Firenze de Rifredi train station was a stone's throw away! Given that, guests are a five minute train ride from the city center. We should have confirmed our arrival time with the owner, because he wasn't in when we arrived and we waited about twenty minutes. But the hotel itself is spotless and newly renovated. The owner is very, very friendly and eager to help, but his English is spotty. His enthusiasm more than makes up for his English in my view and ultimately we had no problem getting our point across. This would be a great place to stay if you are on a budget. One more thing: the breakfast isn't worth much but it seems that none of the lower priced Italian hotels offer anything more than toast and coffee.

My daughter and I had a very short but pleasant stay at Girasole House. It is conveniently located only one block from a train station, with a train leaving every half-hour to the main station in Florence. The ride is only a few minutes. I think it's a good deal for the price, and the owner is very nice and helpful. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and attractive.

We were very disappointed about the location of the B & B. It was said to be ten minutes from the city center (we expected it to be on foot) and in fact it was by train , so allowing for the waiting time, it took us more or less an hour to go and an hour to come back; Plus, the location had no interest. Beside, the owner of the House was very nice and friendly and did all he could to make our stay more pleasant.

The room was perfect. The bathroom was perfect as well. The place is renovated so everything is spacious, unfortunately, when I arrived, they had yet to put in the air conditioners in the rooms. There´s a train station a block away that takes you to the central train station in Florence. All in all, the B&B is perfect for those who are interested in traveling to Florence.

This was the best property we stayed in during our trip around Italy. The owner was very accommodating and provided us with excellent dining suggestions and helpful tips for getting around town. He was also EXTREMELY accommodating of our schedule and arranged for us to have breakfast at the bar downstairs when we were unable to utilize his facilities due to an early morning departure. The property is in very close proximity to the Firenze Rifredi station (within 1 block), as well as cafes and groceries. It would make an excellent place for a longer term stay. The neighborhood is away from the main tourist center and therefore was very quiet. It was a great place to stay if you like to observe a real neighborhood.

The Girasole House is a great value. The entire upper floor of a post-war building has been gutted and redone in a clean and well organized way. It's located very conviently up the street from the Riffreddi train station and the #28 bus stop is around the corner: two ways to get to to the center of Firenze easily, or to other points in Tuscany while avoiding the crowds at the center station. I also like the fact that it is removed from all the tourists nearer the center and although it has the appearance of and is primarily a working class neighbothood a short walk will bring you to an area of transistion with chic shops and resturaunts much like Soho or the Village in Manhattan 25 years ago, only safer. Vittorio, who runs the show, is as pleasant and amiable an innkeeper you will ever hope to meet. The breakfast is primarily composed of pre-packaged goodies, yogurt, breads and jams, bottled juices and water and of course a free self-service hot beverage machine which actually makes a decent cappuccino. I thought The Girasole House was a great deal. My daughter and I stayed there for a total of five days and I will not hesitate to book there for our next visit to Firenze.

I loved Vittorio! He was absolutely wonderful, accomodating and welcoming. I would recommend Girasole House to anyone planning to stay a while in Florence. I even had the unfortunate experience of leaving my passport and the staff mailed my passport to Rome for me. I was very surprised and impressed by the facility and hopefully will have the chance to return to Florence another time!
